Falling For His Unwanted Wife by Miss Cloe

Chapter 21

Chapter 21

Farren’s POV

I feel like such an idiot.

My stepmom managed to bribe the janitor at my workplace to harass and intimidate. me. It’s scary to think that she could also pay someone to follow me and take pictures of

mc.

Unfortunately, she captured a photo of me hanging out with my friend’s brother, Max.

But they completely misunderstood the situation!

I am not having an affair!

“I’m really sorry for you, Mr. Al, Julie sympathized with Alaric, who tightly clutched the envelope in his hand. “You’re a good-looking guy, but it seems like you can’t satisfy Farren. That’s why she decided to cheat on you with another man.”

I observed Alaric with a gasp, my eyes widening in surprise.

His jaw tightened, and his gaze bore into mine, filled with a mix of emotions.

Was he angry because he fell for their deception?

Wanting to offer some comfort or explanation, I called out, “Hey. Listen to me. That

was…

However, before I could finish my sentence, Alaric interrupted me abruptly,

“You were mistaken,” he declared to my stepmother and stepsister.

Alaric’s unexpected reaction caught me off guard, leaving me momentarily speechless.

“My wife did not cheat,” Alaric stated firmly. He lowered his hand and added, “The man in the photo is just a friend.”

My eyebrows shot up, and my mouth fell open.

He and Max aren’t friends. They haven’t met each other. But here he was, going around telling everyone that Max was his friend.

“A few days ago, my wife had a car emergency. Her car broke down. Luckily, my friend was available at that time. So, I asked him if he could lend his car to my wife temporarily,” Alaric explained.

He held up a picture, showing them the moment when I returned the car key to Max.

“Take a look at this picture. Alaric gestured, displaying the image to Julie and Katrine. “You can clearly see my wife returning the car key to him,” he emphasized.

Julie and Katrine were left in awe as they gazed at the photographs, unable to find the right words to express their surprise.

Alaric continued to fabricate his story, adding, “I am fully aware that my friend and my wife coincidentally crossed paths on that day. In fact, I was on my way to meet them. but unfortunately, I couldn’t make it in time.”

Why did he deceive them?

Could it be to shield me from this very moment:

Regardless, his words proved beneficial in vindicating me. I felt grateful that he supported me during this very crucial time.

“That’s strange, murmured Julie, my stepmother: “Why would you ask a friend to lend his car to your wife?”

“Perhaps he doesn’t have a car,” Katrine replied. “He must be too poor to afford one.”

They failed in their attempt to label me as a cheater, and now they were back to mocking Alaric

Since Alaric saved me, I felt compelled to speak up about what I know about him. They shouldn’t look down on him any more than this.

However, I missed the time because my father, James, arrived at the scene.

“I was wondering who was causing all the commotion here. So, it was you, my dear daughter,” James greeted me with a smirk.

I felt a tremor run through my b*dy as I looked at the man who barged into my office a few days ago, threatening me that I would regret not giving him the money that Grandpa left for me.

“Yes, I came here,” I said. “And I was welcomed with a very peculiar reception from your wife and sister.”

“They haven’t seen you in a long time. They might have missed you.” Father made a nonsensical remark. Then he turned to Alaric. “I am Farren’s father, James Daughter. Are you her husband?”

“Yes, I am,” Alaric replied.

I rolled my eyes and let out a heavy sigh, feeling frustrated with the situation.

“My husband and I don’t plan on staying here for long. You promised that if I came here, you would give me my mother’s remains. Can I have them now?” I asked, hoping that my father would finally fulfill his promise, even though he had broken many in the

past.

“Sure. I had them prepared for you,” Father responded, surprising me with his immediate agreement.

I flinched, taken aback by his uncharacteristic calmness and willingness to comply. It was unusual for him to be so composed, especially considering our past encounters. Maybe he wasn’t under the influence of drugs today, I thought to myself.

Father continued, “Go inside. You will find a box in the attic. I’ve placed all of your mother’s belongings in that box.”

“In the attic? You stored them in a dusty and dark place?” I questioned, slightly disappointed by his choice of location.

“Should I keep them in my bedroom and cry while thinking of her?” he murmured sarcastically.

I couldn’t help but let out a small laugh at his remark before responding, “Right. Why would you do that to someone you’ve cheated on?” I turned to Julie, adding, “Your mistress wouldn’t appreciate it either.”

Julie’s face turned red with embarrassment, but it was Katrine who spoke up in defense, “What did you say?! My mother is not my father’s mistress!”

“Katrine,” Julie called out Katrine’s name as if silently pleading for her to remain silent.

Katrine sealed her l*ps, but her eyes bore into me with a fierce glare.

“In any case, I will go and retrieve them now,” I stated.

“Then, your husband will stay here,” Father requested. “You go alone and retrieve what you need.”

I glanced at Alaric.

He nodded reassuringly, indicating that there would be no issue if I left.

With that, I turned around and followed the maid, who would lead me to the attic

room.

However, as I distanced myself from Alaric, an unsettling feeling washed over me.

Why did it seem like something terrible was about to occur?
