Chapter 166
Chapter 166
Carlos found it somewhat awkward, but he had no choice but to play along
After all, he chose her himself.
He was the one who spoiled Edith.
He was the one who indulged her in food.
So, he embraced all her flaws and imperfections.
Her arm was immobile, so Carlos had to feed her. While she was eating, she asked, “Have you ealen yet?”
Carlos shook his head. He still hadn’t recovered from the shock and lost all his appetite.
When she heard this, she said, “Let’s share.”
“it’s for one person only. What if I finish all your food and leave you with nothing to eat?” He asked curiously.
Edith replied with a smile, “Stop being so formal with me. You saved my life, when I thought I was going to die for sure. My mind was racing with thoughts. I was terrified of death. If you haven’t saved me, I would have been a corpse by now. My life is forever indebted to you. I will repay you with half of everything I own from now on.”
Carlos was moved by her words.
She was so innocent that she didn’t blame him for even one bit.
If she kept her distance from him, she wouldn’t go through these struggles.
He brushed aside the strands of hair on her forehead and said in a gentle voice, “Aren’t you going to ask what caused this incident in the first place?*
“I have a rough idea.”
She nodded agreeably.
“So, aren’t you resentful of me?”
“To be honest, I was pretty resentful at first, but you saved my life. You know, it’s important to repay kindness. And besides, what happened with Elvis last time wasn’t your fault, so I’m grateful for what you did for me. I don’t know whether you are my curse or my blessing, but I don’t really care anymore. I just believe that you’ll always be there for me when I need you!”
Her words of unwavering trust hit him hard. This caused him to feel a surge of emotions.
Though she knew it would be dangerous to be with him, she still stuck with him through thick and thin.
He smirked slightly, “Let me be your blessing from now on.”
After finishing her meal, she took a sedative and soon fell into a deep sleep.
Only then did Sam speak, “Are you going to spare Miss Huffam?”
“Natalie personally came to negotiate and exchanged her terms with me. I already owed her a life, and now she’s used this to settle the score, so can’t touch Meggie at the moment. But, it’s not over yet. Go tell her that if she ever dares to mess with Edith again, no one can save her from my revenge!”
His voice was cold and emotionless. It sent shivers down Sam’s spine. Even though it was a hot summer day, he felt like he was in the middle of a freezing winter.
He quickly nodded and went to handle it. He did not dare to delay.
Edith was Carlos‘ everything. Anyone who harms her would face the wrath of him. He would fight back with all his might!
After resting in the hospital for several days, Edith returned to the villa. She acted as if nothing had happened and showed no signs trauma.
The good news of job offer had reached her.
The place of interview was in a commercial building.
However, she couldn’t remember the name of the company. She could not remember whether she had ever sent them her CV.
After finding out from Google that it was a medium sized design company and she went to the interview unhesitatingly.
She wore long–sleeved chiffon in the middle of summer, covering the bruises on her body.
Otherwise, people would definitely suspect she was a victim of domestic violence.
She was taken to the office by the HR and the interview process was quick. It ended in less than ten minutes. They didn’t ask for a second interview and hired her on the spot. They signed a work contract with her immediately.
Everything happened so fast, leaving her feeling confused.
When the interview was over, she stood up and reached for a handshake.

The HR also reached out his hand. However as if he suddenly remembered something, he withdrew it with a strange expression on his face.
He chuckled, “Let’s better keep it contact free.”
He didn’t want his hand to get cut off
“Later, you’ll go to the headquarters with the designer Marc.”
“The headquarters?” She was surprised. “Is this just a branch company?”
“Yes, you’ll be working at the headquarters now, so you’re not under my supervision. Don’t ask too many questions, you’ll find out when you get
there.”
Soon after she arrived at the headquarter.
Her legs were shaking like pillars when she stood in front of the headquarters building.
“What…what’s going on?” She thought to herself.
“Why is she in front of Carlos‘ company?”
She trembled as she got on the elevator, which went straight to the top floor. The person then pointed to the largest office in the middle and said, “Your boss in there. You’re appointed directly.”
Upon hearing this, Edith trembled as she looked at the label on the door.
“President’s Office.”
Was God joking with her again?
She gathered her courage and walked up to the door. Carefully, she pushed it open and saw a spacious interior.
Someone was sitting on a leather sofa with their back facing her.
The air conditioner in the room was so cold that she couldn’t help but shiver.
Edith walked forward nervously. A thought came into her mind, yet she dismissed it as being unrealistic.
“I can’t end up in this person’s hands after going through all this trouble!“, she thought.
She stood ten feet away from the desk, her voice trembling with fear. “Hello, I’m the new employee.”
Before she could even introduce herself, the chair slowly turned around, and she saw the person’s face.
“What?”
“Carlos, what are you doing here?” Edith whispered.
She stared at him as he slowly turned his chair around. His lips curved up into a smirk, as if he knew he had everything under his control.
He waved at her and said in a gentle voice, “Come over here.”
She would have gone over before, but now she was so scared that she couldn’t even move a step.
“How come you are here? What is my job description?”
“You’ll be my personal designer; do you like this position?”
“You helped me get this job through connections?” she asked in shock. She had worked hard to leave Simpledux and their corrupt practices behind, only to find herself caught up in a similar situation again.
“Yes.”
“Carlos! How could you do this? How will other colleagues think of me now?” She was so angry that she shouted at him.
When he heard her words, Carlos raised his eyebrows and looked at her amusingly.
He tapped his fingers rhythmically on the table.
In this quiet office, the tapping sounds were extremely easy to hear.
The man spoke with a deep and pleasant voice.
“You don’t have any colleagues. This position is just for you. You don’t need to work under anyone or worry about your relationship with your colleagues. You’ll report directly to me. Sam probably is going to be your only colleagues. So you don’t need to care about how other colleagues think
of you. You don’t need to deal with office politics, so what’s wrong with giving you a shortcut?”
Uh…” She was stunned and couldn’t wrap her head around it for a moment.
She found his reasoning very convincing.
