Dweller

Chapter 15

~ 4 Years Later ~

I walked along the busy streets of Wohlstand, calmly walked along the big crowds and turned into an alleyway. Kids came swarming to me. I handed them each an object I had stolen from the unsuspecting rich men off the streets. They all scattered either going to trade their piece of treasure or going to go find a shady person to sell it to.

I still hadn't left. This has slowly become my life. I must say though when I was 10 I didn’t imagine that my life would result in stealing to live. Having it has been a lot more difficult now. I had stayed a year trying to collect as much information as possible. I had learned that that fateful night we were attacked by two of the most famous and strongest groups of vampires and werewolves. According to the information, there have only been 6 confirmed deaths. Everyone else is still missing or their bodys’ were to be destroyed to be able to identify who all were dead.

I had joined up with Smorgin and her gang of kids. I had quickly joined and quickly became respected in the group. I was the third oldest and was the best at escaping at night pickpocketing, and gathering information on someone. I had quickly become famous in the slums for being the person to turn to if you needed information. Making our small little group quickly become popular and grow fastly in size. Originally there were 15-20 kids now there are over 100-130 kids.

I had practically become the second in command of the group whenever Smorgins wasn’t around and the kids weren’t sure how to handle something they came to me. Over the years that I was here I had tried the same strategy that I used to get into the city however it was harder as the place was a lot more crowded and I would be quickly caught as I tried to get into.

Also Smorgin continuously tried to keep me in cutting off any advances I would make to leave, over time I tried less and less obvious strategies to get out. As much as I love this city and the kids that live in it. I don’t plan on staying here forever.

Now being 14 years old I had to continuously, had to live for myself and make money anyway possible. I had just stolen from a handy merchant who was selling bracelets. I had walked by, snatched and ran. Obviously he tried to run after me and take it back, but the houses have become my territory. I can escape from anyone but no-one could escape from me here.

I jumped on a roof but before I could I purposely tripped myself. Making it look like I jumped over to the other roof safely, making him and the men in blue run past my little road that I had fallen into.

I whistled and happily walked away proud of my catch. As I walked along, I felt someone following me. They stayed out of sight but they were letting their presence known.

“What is it?” I called out, trying to figure out what my mysterious person wanted.

“I have a message from Smorgins. Also, did you know how hard it is to find you?” Said the person they came out from the shadows now fully showing themselves to me.

It was Sam, he was the 2nd oldest of the group and the most mysterious second to me. He didn’t talk to many people and only listened to Smorgins. Over time when I officially joined the group we had gotten close, and even did some missions together becoming close friends. He was wearing a black bandana across his face covering the whole bottom. His hair was put into a low ponytail as it swayed behind him. If his hair wasn’t in a pony it would cover his whole back. His long blond hair standed out against his blue eyes, his looks completely contradicting his personality.

He was a straightforward person and constantly would torment you if he was bored. He was rude to those he didn’t know but shy around those he did know. Sam isn’t his real name, only Smorgins knows just like how I also go by a fake name. Every child in the group has a story whether you chose to share it is up to you, some are running away from their pasts, while others are done with it and looking for something else to do.

I was called Stalker, mostly because I’m constantly on reconases missions and missions to collect information. I was also always lurking in the shadows. Constantly being needed meant I had to always be prepared.

“Why was the last time I checked today a break day?” I state in a bored tone, going back to playing around with my new pouch of gold.

“And who decided that? You?” He said as he started laughing near the end.

“Duh, who else it’s not like the boss was going to let me go have a free day, and the whole point of being in my territory is so that no-one finds me.” I say as I pretend to be interested in the coins in the bag. I start taking them out counting how many I have.

“Well boss has a new mission” I roll my eyes, as he says that. He continues ignoring my disrespect. “She says it's one you might just like, apparently something to do with the supernatural?” He adds at the end.

Now that he has my attention at the mention of supernatural, I put all of the coins in the bags and looked at him. Curiosity filled my mind. I followed behind him as I tried to figure out what this new and never done mission might be.
