Chapter |24|
I lean back in my office chair giving my attention to my beta, delta, and gamma. Lance, Ethan, and Kayla. Ethan is younger than us being only sixteen but he's Matt's cousin and he trains harder than werewolves twice his age. He agreed to join our pack and become Delta when he heard of an opening. He arrived while I was in Florida with Avery, we ended up staying three days instead of one.
Kayla was promoted to Gamma weeks ago. She's Avery's best friend and I know nobody will protect her better when I'm not around. She was a top warrior at her old pack and has climbed up the ranks quickly here making her overqualified for the job.
I meet all their eyes before speaking. "I normally don't hold meetings without warning but I have a few important things to discuss. First, I want to welcome Ethan to our pack. I wish it was under different circumstances but you're a great warrior and I know you'll make your cousin proud."
"Thank you alpha." Ethan nods and I continue.
"The reason I called this meeting is because Avery is out shopping but when she returns we need to make sure the pack is on their best behavior. I don't want any shifting inside, fights happening or people staring."
Lance looks at me confused. "Does this have to do with the email you sent out about Avery bringing a visitor back with her?"
"It's not her mom, is it? We still have James locked in the basement." Kayla interrupts and I growl loudly and sit back. I really need to go kill that asshole but hearing his screams of pain is euphoric.
"No her mom is busy working it's her sister, Charlie."
Kayla's jaw drops. "Avery has a sister?"
"Adopted yes. Her father was married to Hannah but when he passed Hannah got custody of his daughter. She's sixteen and very human."
"Does she need a personal bodyguard?" Ethan smirks and I growl warning him.
"She is not to be touched! Charlie is your Luna's sister and you will show her the utmost respect. I don't want her involved with anyone, understood?"
Ethan nods. "Understood Alpha."
Lance shrugs. "So when do we meet her?"
I quickly mind-link Avery who tells me they just pulled into packlands and are almost to the packhouse. I stand up. "Right now."
The four of us leave my office and head down to the dining hall its dinner time and the dining hall is already busy. As I reach the bottom step of the stairs the side door into the packhouse opens and Avery walks in with Charlie right behind her.
"Kai!" she smiles and wraps her arms around me. She tries to pull away but I grab her by the throat and bring her lips to mine.
"I missed you," I whisper hoarsely and she blushes.
"I was only gone a few hours."
"A few hours away from you is too much darling." I kiss along her jaw feeling my pants tighten at the thought of taking her. We separated at the airport earlier because I needed to get things settled while she went shopping with her sister. But now she's back and I'm craving to be between her legs.
"Wow, this place is huge. It's like Harry Potter!" Charlie's voice interrupts and I see her from the corner of my eye glancing around amazed.
Avery pulls away and this time I let her go. She smiles at her sister then wraps her arm with hers and leads her to our usual table. Lance, Kayla, and Ethan are already sitting. I hadn't even noticed they weren't by me anymore.
I go to my seat at the head of the table. An omega brings us all a plate and I look around at the members of my pack. A few are looking at Charlie curiously but none look angry like they want to harm her. They all had a proper warning a human would be joining us and I'm proud of their behavior so far.
"So Kai is obviously the Alpha and Avery is the Luna. What do you guys do?" Charlie asks our friends who give a brief description of their roles in the pack. Charlie listens intently eager to learn more about us.
Avery grabs my hand getting my attention. "I think Charlie is going to fit in here. You worried for nothing," she whispers.
"You're right. I'll never doubt you again darling."
"You better not. After dinner I'm going to show Charlie her room then we're going to finish what you started by the door." she winks and I groan thinking of the fun we're going to have.
"Promise?" I lick my lips and she rubs her hand over the top of my jeans where my cock is starting to harden up again.
"I promise. I love you so much Kai Blackwater."
"And I love you Avery Blackwater." As soon as I marked Avery she became my official wife and changed her last name to mine. She still wants a wedding later on and I'm happy to do it. I want to show my wonderful mate off as much as possible.
As dinner continues on I can't help but reminisce over the past year and how much it's changed. I'm the official alpha of my pack now. My dad wasn't all bad but he crossed a line trying to keep my mate from me. After we lost Mom he only thought about power and how to strengthen our pack.
I didn't want to kill him. I always thought he would willingly pass the reigns to me when the time came. I'll miss the good parts of him but I'm also relieved he's gone. He won't be a danger to my mate anymore. She's safely beside me where she always should have been.
Losing Matt has been the hardest thing to overcome. He was my best friend. After Avery moved away I shut myself off from others. I just focused on alpha training. But then Matt moved to the pack and we became instant friends. I knew at twelve years old I wanted him to be my beta.
Feeling someone staring at me I look up from my plate of food. I glance around the room but don't see anyone. Still, the hairs on the back of my neck stand up at the feeling of being watched. I look around the room again and drop my fork when I swear I see Matt smiling at me. His figure fades away at the same time the light flickers.
"Kai we need to get the lighting looked at, I think some of the wires are faulty," Avery suggests. Noticing my face she frowns. "What's wrong you look like you've seen a ghost?"
I shake my head because I must be imagining things. "I'm fine let's hurry and eat so I can have dessert." I wink at her.
Whether I really saw Matt or not I know his wonderful spirit lives in all of us. He was my best friend and always will be.
