Chapter 5
Chapter 5 Passed Away
When I looked at him, there was no trace of affection left in my eyes, only intense hatred.
Chris furrowed his brow at the sight.
“Amber, just do as you’re told, and you can have whatever you want. I can accompany your son or give you the title of my wife”
1 once longed to be his legitimate wife.
But he was always seen publicly with Sharon.
Everyone knew he was married and thought Sharon was his wife.
Now that I no longer want it, he’s using it to coerce and lure me into submission.
I endured the pain on my face and met his gaze. “No need, Chris. We’re done.”
Perhaps because I had loved him so intensely before, he simply couldn’t believe I would leave him.
He sneered, “What? Not coming to me, pretending to need me to play with your son anymore?”
I detected a hint of scorn in his words.
Before I could respond, Sharon spoke up, “Amber, stop deceiving Chris. If Aaron were really dying, why would you be here alone?”
I couldn’t take it anymore. “Shut up! You have no right to mention Aaron.”
Sharon looked hurt. “Okay, I won’t mention it then. Don’t be mad at me, Amber.”
Seeing my hostile attitude towards Sharon, Chris was thoroughly provoked.
He chuckled coldly, pulled out his phone, and called his assistant, Mason Wills.
To ensure I heard his words, he put the call on speaker.
“Mason, find out which hospital Amber’s son is at. Pass the word to stop his treatment.”
His expression revealed a masterful strategist at work.
As if this move would somehow give him control over me.
I gave a dreariness smile.
Mason hesitated for a moment before speaking up. “Mr. Walker, Mr. Aaron has passed away. It happened the day after you disappeared!
Chapter 6 We’re Done
“How is that possible? Chris instinctively objected, then dismissed the idea with disdain, “Mason, you’ve grown hold, conspiring with Amber to deceive me!”
There was silence on the other end. After Chris hung up, Mason sent details about the funeral arrangements and the cemetery address.
Upon reading it, Chris froze!
His eyes widened in disbelief as he stared at me. “Such a big deals, why didn’t you tell me?”
I chuckled, “How could I tell you?”
The night before our trip to Disney, he turned off his phone and vanished from the vast company.
I couldn’t find him anywhere,
Mason, unable to bear it any longer, stepped in and helped me with Aaron’s funeral arrangements.
Remorse gnawed at him as he recalled his actions. “If you had told me beforehand…”
I cut him off. “Haven’t I told you enough?”
Every time it was Aaron’s birthday, every Children’s Day, every time Aaron was discharged from the ICU.
How desperately he longed to see his father
Desperate to reach Chris, Aaron tried calling him relentlessly,
At first, he would brush me off with excuses, promising to visit Aaron soon.
But later, he started ignoring Aaron’s calls altogether, preoccupied with accompanying Sharon on a reality show. Aaron, hooked up to a ventilator, would excitedly point at the TV screen, asking, “Is that Dad?”
I glanced at the TV show, unable to bear telling Aaron he was mistaken.
Since his birth, Aaron had only seen Chris a few times.
He couldn’t even remember what his dad looked like anymore.
A flicker of guilt crossed Chris‘ eyes. “I thought Aaron was just like your mother, using his illness to manipulate me into coming home.”
When my mother was gravely ill, she noticed Chris‘ constant absences and would call him, urging him to return home and be with me.
Chris had assumed it was a ploy on her part.
So, he believed I was using Aaron to guilt him into coming back.
In the beginning, when Aaron’s symptoms first appeared, and the doctors couldn’t pinpoint the cause, I reached out to Chris several times.
He did return then, but upon seeing the medical documentation, he became convinced I was using Aaron to trick him into coming home.
From then on, no matter how many times I tried to contact him, he refused to believe me.
Now, Chris clearly couldn’t believe reality.
“He was fine when I saw him last,” he insisted.
“Last time Chris, don’t joke around.”
I laughed until tears almost started flowing. “When did you last see him? Nearly two years ago!”
“He had just started walking back then. Do you even remember what he looked like?”
Chris pressed his lips, unable to retort,
He seemed somewhat remorseful.
Chris stepped closer, his hand reaching out to wipe away the tears streaming down my face. “I’m so sorry about this,” he murmured, his voice laced with remorse.
1 swatted his hand away.
Sorry?
Was that all he had to offer after Aaron’s tragic death?
My gaze pierced into his, searching the face of the man I’d loved for over a decade, desperately trying to decipher the depths of his heart.
“Oh, please.” I pushed him away, my voice laced with icy sarcasm. “We could never afford the weight of an apology
