“Who’s the person behind you?” Cynthia asked, looking condescendingly at Lynda.
Lynda covered her face, suddenly bursting into a fit of maniacal laughter.
“I won’t reveal who the real culprit is behind all this. I want you to live in perpetual fear,” Lynda said, her face hidden behind her hands as she laughed. She looked at Cynthia, her eyes filled with resentment as if she wished nothing more than to drag her down to hell with her
Observing her demeanor, Cynthia realized she wouldn’t find any clues from her and exited the interrogation room.
Before long, Colton’s call came through. “I heard from the police that you submitted a new piece of evidence today.”

Cynthia gave a nonchalant hum of acknowledgement.
After a moment of silence, Colton said, “I will have someone find a way to access Lynda’s communication records. You should focus on how to give me an explanation.”
With that, he hung up the phone.
Cynthia couldn’t be bothered with his unreasonable demands. After leaving the police station, she felt a tightness in her chest. She sat in her car, calming herself for a moment before driving back to the hospital.
Unexpectedly, at the hospital entrance, she ran into a familiar figure.
A frail woman was engaged in a heated argument with a young man. Suddenly, t..e young man pushed the woman to the ground and hurriedly left the scene.
Upon taking a closer look, Cynthia realized it was actually Matilda.
“Matilda, are you all right?” Cynthia asked with concern as she stepped forward.
Matilda clearly hadn’t expected to run into Cynthia here. She turned her face away in slight embarrassment. “I’m fine.”
Though she claimed to be fine, her face was marred with bruises, making it clear that she was far from unscathed.
Inside the café near the hospital, Cynthia watched as Matilda wept incessantly.
As it turned out, after leaving the Beckman villa years ago, Matilda was pressured by her

Perhaps it was the joy of having a son that led the man to start indulging in alcohol, gambling, and even domestic violence. To escape from him, Matilda had no choice but to work in the city year–round, sending money home to support their child.
It was unclear what the man had instilled in the child, but not only did he lack gratitude for his mother, he also harbored a deep–seated resentment toward her. To make matters worse, he had even fallen into the clutches of drug addiction.
“After I returned home today, he saw that I had some money and… I initially intended to look for a job as a caregiver at the hospital, but now he’s taken all my money…” As she spoke, Matilda couldn’t help but break down in tears, covering her face with her hands.
Cynthia could only let out a heavy sigh. “I have an apartment that needs looking after. Would you be interested?”
Matilda was stunned. It took her a while to respond. “Of course! Of course I’m interested!”
After giving her the address to her apartment, Cynthia also shared the passcode with her, instructing her to clean it daily. During this time, she assured her that she was free to look for other jobs as well.
Matilda readily agreed, then hesitated before asking, “I heard you have two children. Do they also live in the apartment?”
Cynthia paused slightly, shaking her head. “They have other places to live. They usually don’t stay there.”
Matilda finally nodded, expressing her gratitude profusely before she limped away.
Cynthia stood still for a moment, taking in the scene, before quickly returning to the ward.
News from Colton came swiftly, and by that very evening, he had informed Cynthia of the investigation results.
The number Lynda was in contact with was an overseas virtual number. The person on the other end was extremely cautious, leaving no trace of their identity. Apart from Lynda herself, there was absolutely no way to find out who they were.
For this reason, Cynthia once again went to see Lynda.
But this time, Lynda was even more unhinged than before, unable to utter a single coherent sentence. Cynthia wore a stern expression as she said to Wallace, “Since she’s clearly lost her mind, shouldn’t we send her where she needs to go?”
Wallace understood her intentions. After a moment of hesitation, he nodded and said,

Upon leaving the police station, Cynthia spotted Colton’s car parked outside.
