Chapter 6
MARIANNE.
After receiving congratulations from almost everyone in the hall, the party continued and I was left to continue staring around. I looked at the diamond ring on my finger and sighed, as far as no vows were exchanged, this is insignificant and can't hold me back from escaping.
Once I'm able to successfully flee from here, I'm going to sell this diamond ring for a good amount, it looks like it's going to cost millions of dollars.
Ricardo kept on ignoring me and continued his discussion with his father and the other men present. He hasn't said a word to me since I stepped my feet in here, he hasn't even introduced himself properly to me, I was only able to learn of his name when he was called upon by the emcee. That's just too rude of him, I disliked him already, I can never cope with someone like this.
So what's next after this engagement? Are we going to keep acting like strangers or what, by the look of things, I don't think we can ever get along. He looks so proud and feisty or maybe he doesn't like me and I don't even like him either. I got tired of sitting in just one place surrounded by people I couldn't even relate well with. I couldn't even see my mother anymore, only God knows where she must have gone.
I decided to stand up and look for how to get a phone and contact either Oliver or Sophia. This is the right time to plot my escape since no one has their eyes on me.
I need to contact the two of them and tell them all that has happened and ask them for their help. Thankfully, I've got their numbers stored in my memory so it's going to be quite easy for me to contact them. I just have to leave quietly without anyone noticing my absence so it doesn't look like the bride left her own party.
The problem now is that I don't even know my way back to the room I found myself in when I woke up. I'm just going to use my brain to locate the room. It's better than staying and locking myself up in that room than to keep looking around like a dunce.
When I was sure that no one had their eyes on me, I stood up slowly and just then, someone appeared behind me and placed their hands on my shoulders making me flinch.
"Hi! I'm sorry if I startled you, I didn't mean to."
I was surprised to see a beautiful young lady who looked about my age, her dress looked so hot, sexy and appealing and even her smile was so heartwarming.
She suddenly pulled me from where I was sitting to another empty table that had just two chairs facing each other. She helped me sit and then sat on the chair opposite mine.
"My name is Emilia and I'm sorry for coming late to your engagement party, I got caught up with some things." The young lady introduced herself in a friendly manner and I arched my brows trying to recollect if we'd met each other before. Wait, I can spot some slight resemblance between her and Ricardo, let it not be what I'm thinking.
"My bad! I should have introduced myself properly, I'm Ricardo's younger and only sister. It's nice to meet you," She stretched forth her hands for a handshake and I kept staring at her blankly.
So my guess was actually correct? She is Ricardo's sister? Wow! She acts so different from him, she looks friendly and nice.
"I am..."
She suddenly cut me off before I was even able to tell her my name.
"Marianne right? I've heard a lot about you and I must confess that you're so gorgeous, welcome to our family Marianne." She said cheerfully and I just kept staring.
"I understand you might be acting indifferent because you are new here but I know that with time, you would get accustomed to everything here. I am glad you're getting married to my brother even though he can be very stubborn and mean but I think you're the perfect match for him because my spirit accepts you wholeheartedly and the fact that you're also very beautiful and collected makes everything immaculate.
Don't worry, my brother might be nonchalant and rude towards you but trust me, it's just going to be for a matter of time." She assured me with a smile and I chuckled.
I like her too, she looks so jovial and nice but I guess she doesn't understand that this is a forced marriage. Neither her brother nor I wants this, we are just trying to bend to our parents' wishes. "You're nice and I like you, I guess you're the first person that would be talking to me since this party got started."
"Awwnn, so sorry about that dear, I should have been here earlier to keep you company. I want you to ignore my brother's lackadaisical attitude for now, he is surely going to come around.
If he messes up or tries any shit with you, just let me know okay? If you also need to know anything or need anything at all, don't hesitate to seek me, I'm always willing to help."
"No problem, thank you." I appreciated her with a light smile.
Her phone suddenly pinged indicating she got a message and she checked it.

"I'm sorry but I've got something to attend to right away, just wait for me and I will be back in a few minutes. When I return, we are going to have a few shots and have fun too, it's your engagement party so you've got to cheer up!" She said playfully and winked at me before rushing off.
I was left to be all by myself, I looked in the direction of Ricardo and saw that he was still busy with his father and other noblemen of their syndicate.
I think I was planning on leaving this hall and looking for a way to contact either Sophia or Olivia. Since I was no longer sitting among them, they would not notice if I left right?
One of the servers suddenly approached me and dropped a glass of wine with a slight bow. I decided to follow him when he returned so I could find my way to other rooms.
When I noticed he was done serving the glass of wine from his tray, I stood up and followed him back, which led me to the kitchen where I met other servers. I noticed the male servers were more than the female ones. Each of the servers was busy with one thing or the other, the kitchen was so large.
An idea suddenly drops in my head; what if I borrow one of their phones and use it to contact Sophia or Olivia?
I immediately approached one of the male servers who looked cool, the female ones had this frigid look on their faces.
"Hello, can you do me a favor?" I asked in a sweet voice as I tucked my hair at the back of my ears.
"It's you ma, I'm at your service." He switched his attention to me immediately.
"Can I borrow your phone? I left mine in my room and you know I can't leave the hall. Everyone seems busy with one thing or the other. I can't even send anyone to help me go get it. I need to check something real quick,"
