Chapter 95 Surprise
Wesley's eyes were unpredictable, staring at the lady's delicate face, he said flatly, "You don't have to worry that somebody will be against you. As I said before, as long as you obey me, you don't have to worry about other things."
His remark sounded overbearing and made other people feel safe, but it was actually a satire for Harriet.
In fact, he didn't mind at all what impact it would bring to the rest of her life, so he could say it so easily. Anyway, he could simply drive her away as soon as he felt tired of her in the future. Did she still have leeway to bargain with him?
Harriet was emotionally exhausting; she leaned in the back seat of the car, closing her eyes and did not speak another word.
At the same time, in the Jones family's mansion.
In the bedroom, Sandra's face turned livid as she looked at the information found out by the private detective.
Sure enough, Colin was indeed the child of Allen's ex-wife!
Not only that, he and Harriet actually were siblings. It was really ridiculous that she actually tolerated these two people appeared in front of her for so long!
She dropped the information file to the table. Gritting her teeth, a sneer curled her lips.
There was movement outside the door, it seemed that her daughter was back.
Sandra tried her best to subside her anger and calm down. After sorting out and locking those information in the drawer, she went downstairs.
"Is dinner not ready yet? I'm starving to death!" Louisa sat on the sofa, yelling while dropping the handbag from her hand.
Not knowing where her daughter came back from, she guessed that she most probably stayed together with Colin. Sandra was filled with anger, scolded her to her face, "Are you still in the mood to eat? Don't you see how Wesley treats you now?"
Louisa was scolded by her mother once she went back, so she didn't have a good tone as well.
"Isn't he just having an affair with another woman outside? You've said that it is just a game between him and that woman, why are you becoming so anxious now?"
Sandra was boiled with rage, "It's different for this time. He is telling you that the Jones family is not his only option and he doesn't have to be with you only. If you continue to behave like this, he really will break off his engagement with you!"
"Just let him do it. It doesn't mean that I can't marry without him," pouted Louisa indifferently.
Sandra was so angry and felt like giving her daughter a slap, but she put up with her in the end.
"Louisa, listen to me, you should find a chance to have a good talk with Wesley. Take more initiative and don't let him really be blinded by the temptresses outside."
"I won't go..."
"Louisa Jones!"
Sandra suddenly increased the pitch; Louisa was startled, and then the stern scolding from her mother was heard.
"You have to marry him in any case. Don't think that I'm unaware of what you have announced in your social media recently. Let me tell you, we won't accept anyone else as our son-in-law except Wesley. You better break off with that poor guy as early as possible, otherwise, don't blame me for being cruel to you!"
Louisa was stunned with her eyes wide-opened, and for a moment she didn't dare to retort.
In her impression, her mother had never been so harsh on her.
Surely she and Colin couldn't overcome the difficulties and be together?
...
Time flew and a new day came. Early in the morning, Harriet was awoken by Molly's phone call.
"Harriet, the fat's in the fire now. Hurry and take a look at today's entertainment news headlines!"
Squinting her eyes, Harriet turned on the laptop, "What's wrong?"
"Someone has exposed the fact that you are cohabiting with Mr. Smith!"
Harriet sobered up quickly as she heard the remark of Molly. Immediately, she logged into her Facebook account, searching for today's trending entertainment news.
As expected, although it was a sneak shot and the scene was rather vague, she and Wesley still could be recognized from the photo at a glance. The scene of them entering and leaving the apartment at the same time was captured, and a heated discussion was sparked on the Internet.
"I thought that President Smith was only acting with this little-known actress so as to make Jones Group nervous, but I never think that it will become real. Tsk! This woman who relies on man really played her cards well, she can even handle President Smith."
"Upper floor, what do you mean by 'little-known'? Our Harriet is popular anyway, and you can't simply make a conclusion before the matter has been clarified."
"How do they clarify? What kind of clarification is still needed for these obvious pictures? Just admit it! Someone said she had a sugar daddy before, and now it seems that this is not a groundless rumor."
On the Internet, the sharply worded comments from those netizens made her feel offensive. Furrowing her brows, she made a phone call to Molly, "Is there any action taken by the public relations department?' "We're already working on it, but it is too sudden and has involved President Smith, so the public relations department can't clarify it in a short time. They most probably are asking for the instruction of President Smith." Molly let out a sigh, reproaching herself, "I'm so sorry, Harriet. I should notice it earlier, and make you more cautious."
Harriet didn't care much, "It's not your fault. If there is somebody watching me to get the revelation about me, then it's just a matter of time for this thing to happen."
Besides, Wesley had been so high-profile with her recently. Even if others dared not disclose it casually because of his prestige, there was no guarantee that everyone didn't have the guts to do it. "Are you suspecting..." Molly comprehended what she meant.
Harriet told her, "You go to find out who is the owner of this private account."
The one who exposed her and Wesley was actually an influencer in the entertainment's world, who was a well-known ruthless character. This influencer always had the gut to reveal the celebrities' secret story in the limelight which the media dared not to do so, so it seemed that the revelation actually was not aimed at her.
Despite the happening of such a thing, Harriet still insisted on showing herself up in the theater group. Fortunately, Wesley went to the company early today and didn't send her forcibly. After disguising herself, the people in the Film and TV City didn't take notice of her, she arrived at the film studio without a hitch.
However, as she stepped into the filming studio, she discovered that all the actors were not there except for the prop master, while the shooting spot was full of effulgent flowers and the blossom of roses and it was really eye-catching.
"Is this today's setting?" Turning around, Harriet asked one of the prop masters. She remembered that today's filming plot didn't use a sea of flowers as the background.
The prop master smiled mysteriously, "Ms. Clark, there's a surprise waiting for you."
Harriet was confused, "What do you mean?"
As soon as her voice faded, Keith's voice sounded behind her, "Harriet."
Harriet turned over her head doubtfully, and saw a man walking up to her with a bouquet of delicate roses, he asked her softly, "Do you like it?"
"Uh...it's beautiful," Harriet looked toward the sea of flowers, and replied frankly.
Keith let out a sigh of relief, his eyes were full of satisfaction, "As long as you like it. Ms. Whitty has suggested this to me, but I'm worried that you'll see it as too naive."
Listening to the boy's explanation, Harriet suddenly had a guess, and her bad feeling was getting stronger and stronger.
As expected, after concluding his remarks, Keith suddenly handed the roses to her in earnest. With an extremely sincere tone, he said, "Harriet, I actually have liked you for a long time, can you...can you be my girlfriend?"
Harriet slowly furrowed her eyebrows, before she said anything, a bunch of crew members suddenly appeared around her, including Cherry and Molly. Cherry was smiling as if she was glad for her, but Molly obviously looked reluctant and didn't know this thing in advance.
"Harriet, I'm not kidding." There was sincerity in the eyes of Keith, his eyes shining with expectation made her feel embarrassed and helpless.
Cherry said on the side, "Harriet, just like I said, Keith really like... Ahem, you don't know how long we have cooperated with him to prepare all these things early in the morning, and he is waiting exclusively for you."
