Chapter 66 Jealous
Colin was totally confused.
He kept on feeling sorry for his girlfriend along the way and blamed himself for not protecting her as he should, therefore when Louisa requested for anything, he agreed immediately. Yet he felt he should not have done that when they arrived home.
"Lou, this doesn't feel right, maybe I should help you book a room in a hotel...”
He did not even finish his sentence, yet Louisa's tears fell like pearls from a broken necklace.
"Are you abandoning me too? My family has abandoned me, and now you're asking me to leave too...Okay, I know I'm a burden to you and I should not have followed you back!"
"No, it's not like that, Lou!"
Colin was a naive young man, he quickly gave in when his girlfriend started to cry and nag.
"Please stay, I don't even have enough time to love you, let alone abandon you!"
Realizing Colin's unexpected, sudden confession, Louisa blinked her eyes in surprise, "Oh yeah? How much do you love me?"
Colin blushed when he realized what he had said in a hurry just now.
"Uh, very much..."
Louisa blinked knowingly, "I love you too, Colin."
She was wearing a flawless gown and her face looked beautiful. From what Colin had seen, he was afraid that Louisa might be the world's prettiest woman at the moment. He could not bear with it anymore and his eyes started to become misted.
Sensing her boyfriend's response, Louisa's joy burst out like fireworks.
"Colin, it's alright... I'm okay with it."
A car sped along California Bridge like lightning and wind.
Wesley Smith drove fast and Harriet Clark who was unsatisfied asked from behind, "Where are you taking me?"
Yet the man did not reply.
Harriet chose to keep quiet seeing Wesley's gloomy face from his side. She never challenged a man's patience to avoid making herself suffer.
After fifteen minutes, Harriet regretted because she was dragged along by Wesley on her high heels and her dissatisfaction grew even more.
"Wesley Smith, let me go! Where the heck are you taking me?"
He did not release her but brought her to a helipad and pushed her into a private jet.
Harriet's jaw dropped, she could no longer get off the plane but seeing herself inside it not knowing why. The pilots in front of them lowered down the barrier behind them without being asked.
"Wesley Smith, what is wrong with you?" Harriet stared at the man before her with a weird look.
Wesley's eyes went gloomy and Harriet felt a sudden heartbeat, "Why are you looking at me like that?"
"Are you happy with the other man tonight?"
A single sentence made Harriet gave a sarcastic look, "Still fine. Yet, isn't it none of Mr. Smith's business regarding which man I'm in contact with?"
"I've said it before, nobody has the right to touch what belongs to me," Wesley squinted his eyes, "Looks like you wasn't paying attention to my words."
Harriet curled her lip, not willing to resign.
"Mr. Smith, as you have said, I'm just a belonging, and it sounds like I'm unimportant and can come and go as you wish, so why do you need to care who have I been with? Besides, I was just accompanying someone to attend a party, and I didn't cross the line with Keith."
Keith? How affectionate.
Wesley's eyes grew even more gloomy, "You've held his hands and fed him. How good of you."
Harriet startled, and immediately replied casually, "He's just a kid, what's wrong to pacify him? Or..."
She suddenly lifted the corner of her lips with a teasing look, and a trace of cunning could not be hidden from her tone of voice, "Or, could it be that Mr. Smith was actually being jealous?"
Wesley sneered, "Who do you think you are?"
Harriet's face froze, the ache in her heart was that obvious, yet she quickly put up an indifferent look.
"Of course I know who I am, therefore Mr. Smith no longer has to bother spying on my life. Even if I shouldn't go out with other man today, at least I've witnessed the declaration between Mr. Smith and your fiancé, and it's still honourable, isn't it?"
Her obedient yet obvious 'smashing a cracked pot' attitude had provoked Wesley inexplicably, he dragged her to his front and kissed her hard.
Harriet did not resist, she even had an abnormal pleasure and lifted the corner of her lips.
Wesley realized a smiling expression on her face, he pulled away and squinted, "What are you smiling at?"
"I was thinking, would your fiancé be mad if she knows that you are hugging and kissing me now?"
She paused, and shook her head with a sorry face.
"I forgot. Louisa Jones seems to not want to be engaged with you. She seems to not like you, therefore she might not care who do you be with, right? Mr. Smith."
What she said was simply just to irritate Wesley.
See, the woman that he cared for since young till now did not pay a single attention to him, and she did not even want to marry him, yet he foolishly exchanged his kindred for the health of that woman, how silly, how regretful!
What disappointed her was Wesley did not show much anger.
Could it be that...he did not like Louisa too, therefore he did not care for her behavior towards him, let alone angry?
When the thought flashed across her mind, Harriet smiled self-deprecatingly, what was she thinking? This man had treated Louisa at any cost, and she had witnessed how much he had loved her.
"Harriet, I realize you have become bolder and bolder," Wesley pinched her chin, "don't try to provoke me, before I lose my patience."
Harriet realized she had been overreacting tonight too, it was none of her business whether he was engaged, married or who was he with.
"I'm sorry, Mr. Smith, I was just feeling inappropriate for you to bring me out in front of the crowd today, I'm afraid that would make the headlines tomorrow."
"It's none of your concern," Wesley replied coldly.
Harriet dragged the corner of her mouth and did not speak further.
He was right. No matter how enormous the incident was, with the ability of the Smith family, nobody can say a word when Wesley learnt on the news company to not publish the news. The surrounding went silent at once, and Wesley released Harriet.
Harriet had no idea where was he bringing her in the middle of the night, and she had no mood to ask him further. Since she had already boarded the plane, her refusal would be rejected no matter what, therefore she chose to look through the windows to relieve the oppression that she felt.
The plane had just departed a while ago and did not fly high. The altitude was enough to glance through the city under the thin clouds.
The flourishing city was lit up and the neon lights were glittering like stars. The light shadow of the California Bridge spanning across the river flickered, displaying an amazing bird-eye view from the top. Harriet was busy acting and had flown to different places of the world before, yet it was her first time to see such a beautiful night view, therefore she could not move her eyes away.
Looking at the view, she did not realize she was stared closely by Wesley.
As she turned around, her heartbeat paused for a few seconds when she encountered his dark eyes.
"Why are you staring at me?"
Wesley took back his gaze lightly and did not response. Harriet was not willing to let him go and continued, "Did Mr. Smith have a new recognition towards my beauty? Thinking that my beauty has upgraded to a national level?"
"You're overly confident," Wesley gave her a light gaze.
Harriet pretended to be innocent and blinked her eyes, "Then why were you staring at me?"
Wesley was expressionless and he gave an unrelated reply, "You better rest up."
Harriet frowned, what did he mean?
Soon enough, she understood the meaning of his words, yet it was already too late.☐☐☐☐☐☐☐☐
