Chapter Eye of the Storm
The Wild Rose flew through the chaos that rained down across the Western Continent. Stars in the skies above had slowly begun disappearing as systems and galaxies were harvested throughout the Universe.
"What if all the stars go out, before we end this?" Syl asked, as he sat by a window, looking out at the night sky, the white sheen of the airship bathed in an ominous red glow.
"If it did come down to that..." Mizu pondered. "At least we'd still be here, alive. As long as one world, one realm still remains, hope will too" She replied thoughtfully.
"I guess" Syl nodded. "Do you think we can pull this off?" He asked.
"All we can do is try" Mizu sighed. "This is a plan that has been millennia in the making, a whole race died for this one chance. So many things could have gone wrong, some did, like Lumina's rampage, but in the end, we managed it. We're here, on our way to finish the fight. I don't think we will fail at the last hurdle" She smiled.
Syl gave a slight smile and looked down the hallway, a few of the others were sat in the lounge area talking. The low hum of the airship's engine drowned out the noise of chatter across the ship. Syl pondered for a second, looking out at the red planet in the skies above.
"Mizu..." He thought for a second. "Doesn't this all seem like a band-aid?" He asked.
"What do you mean?" Mizu asked, curiously.
"I mean, these chimeras" Syl began, as he pointed to the creatures in the distance. "They're made from living beings, beings from other realities" He continued.
"Yes, it would seem so" Mizu replied.
"Then, even if we close the tear permanently, the people of the red planet will still continue to harvest other realities, destroying as many as they can to rebuild their own. Doesn't it feel to you like we're being a bit selfish?" Syl asked. Mizu pondered the thought for a minute or two.
"We don't have any real way to fight back against them" Mizu sighed. "I'd love to put an end to their plans, but... we need to save our reality, we don't have a choice" She shrugged. Syl nodded and looked up at the red planet.
"I guess so" Syl said, as he leaned against the window. "Maybe someday, they will pick a fight with the wrong people" He shrugged. Mizu chuckled and nodded.
An explosion rang out from the lands below as a meteor collided with another airship. Mizu looked in the direction of Inchaya and sighed.
"I just hope there will be something left of our world, when all is said and done" Mizu frowned.
"Nations can be rebuilt, as long as the people survive. Just look at Sanctuary" Syl smiled. Mizu smiled, and nodded.
"I suppose, one day this will all just be another page of the history books" Mizu said. "I hope I get a little section dedicated to me" She chuckled.
"I think you'd at least get a book or two" Syl laughed. "Thanks, by the way" He smiled.
"What for?" Mizu asked.
"For talking with me" Syl replied.
"Honestly, I enjoy talking with you and the others. Without your family, I wouldn't be here today" Mizu smiled. "So, thank you" She chuckled. The two carried on talking as the ship made its way towards the floating continent.
