Chapter 10
Chapter 10
Vera Clayton:
I left Emily’s side with a frown on my face. I didn’t know what to make of her words.
Was I supposed to sign it off as her craziness getting the better of her? Or should I take it seriously?
Was I making a mistake?
As the questions floated over in my head, I shook it off as my wolf reminded me that it was my mate we were thinking of here.
Blaise has claimed me and as such, he wouldn’t hurt me like Nicholas did. If he hurt me, his wolf was going to hurt too.
I wanted to be affirmed by these new thoughts but somehow, a small voice in my head reminded me of how I had almost lost my life due to the way Blaise treated me.
What if all of these were just a sham to get me to accept his proposal? What if-
“The ride should be about ten minutes,” Laleh’s voice cut through my thoughts and as she came closer she paused seeing the look on my face.
“What is wrong? You look like you have seen a ghost. Are you okay?”
It would be crazy to pour out all of my questions and doubts to her, so I did the wisest thing I could think of, I forced a smile and shook my head.
“Yes, of course… I am okay. My smile was bright but I could see how much it was failing.
“It’s just unease…” I said with half–truth. “I can’t believe this is happening. I am getting married.”
Her inquisitive glare faded as her face contorted into a smile that reflected mine.
“Do not worry,” she whispered, pulling me closer. “Everything is going to be fine because you deserve it.”
Yes, it was a lie but I couldn’t deny the way her words placed me at ease.
Laleh had a way of making things easy around her. The air was cooler when she walked into the room and soon, I forgot about my worries and focused on our trip.
We went to the first venue she had selected, it was a large hall with really high ceilings and a beautiful white backdrop.
“This is beautiful. What do you think?” She asked, spreading her arms to take in the beauty like it was something she could grasp.
“I think it’s beautiful too, my reply was automatic. I didn’t want to say anything that might wipe off that smile from her face.
Her eyes twinkled as she stared at me.
“Okay, but
but your eyes say you want to see the next venue. Come on,” she pulled me out of the hall and into the car once again.
By the time we reached the next stop, I’felt it. The pull and serenity drew me closer even before I stepped out of the car.
When we finally did, my eyes settled on the beautiful garden in front of us. The smell of fresh flowers filled the air, lacing every corner with fruitiness. It was so alluring, I could taste it on the tip of my tongue.

As we stepped out of the vehicle, I didn’t wait for Lalch to pop the question before I answered.
“Yes, this is it. I want this one.” I exclaimed and she burst out in laughter, producing that sound I have come to love so much.
I knew she was teasing me with that laugh but I couldn’t help the grin that spread into my face the further we walked.
I have always wanted a fairytale sort of wedding and this garden was everything in that dream and more.
The space was large enough to contain as many people as Blaise would want–even if there was no one from my side that was coming.
For some strange reason, Emily’s words reverberate in my head, and the frown I had earlier returned.
This time I couldn’t hide it from Laleh.
“Are you feeling uneasy again?” She placed her right hand over my shoulder and tapped it gently.
“Why does Emily stay in the palace?” I asked instead, hoping to stir away the conversation from what she told me but Laleh
was a smart woman.
“You had another encounter with her didn’t you?” She whispered and I had no choice but to clear the air.
“Yes, I met her in the corridors while I was coming to you and she mentioned some twisted words that I couldn’t make sense
of…
The uncertainty in my voice sat calmly on my face as I prepared to bring out the main words.
“Oh, poor Vera. You really should start ignoring Emily… She can’t help herself when she begins to say all of that nonsense.”
Once again I wanted to accept what she was saying to me, but I couldn’t. Emily couldn’t have been just ordinary.
“Has she ever been involved with Blaise! This was the only explanation I could think of
What gave her the confidence to say those things to me was if she didn’t have feelings for Blaise and she was only doing it to get us separated.
“Goddess no,” Laleh cried out like I mentioned something worse,
I didn’t see the possibility as impossible though. Emily was quite beautiful. Anyone could love her as long as she had her lips sealed. It could be possible that she had a relationship with Blaise.
“I told you, she is only in the palace as an advisor and nothing else. Blaise barely even looks at her. The disgust in her voice and features was enough for me to believe her but the topic birthed other topics.
“Did Blaise have another love interest before me?” I whispered and the carefree smile on Laleh’s face disappeared.
She let out a sigh and her hand dropped from my shoulder to my hand. Then she started leading me to the car.
“There was one, who died and left him with a deep scar… And I am not trying to defend him but he is scared he will lose you too. That’s why he acts in a certain type of way sometimes…
“How did she die?” I whispered but she shook her head, sadness washing over her.
“That’s Blaise’s story to tell. Vera.
I wanted to probe further but my heart was already acting funny, so I pushed the thoughts aside.
Lalch secured the garden for the event and we returned to the house.

But as we got down, I noticed that Laleh was frozen in a spot right where she stood.
I frowned watching her and following the direction in which she was looking at.
It was a woman and for some reason, my heart skipped a beat as our eyes met.
“Who is she?” I whispered to Laleh and she turned to me like someone who had seen a ghost.
“That’s Jasmine. Blaise’s Ex.”
“The dead one?” I blurted out, as Emily’s words rang out in my head once again.
