Chapter CHAPTER 72
Chapter 72
Dylan POV
Another day, another lesson. These stupid royalty lessons we’re becoming an absolute nightmare and simply consisted of a berating from her grace and nothing more. I was once again in the middle of a dance lesson, and growled silently as I once again stepped on Stewart’s foot.
Lewis had been distant, he’d been there wherever I went, but he kept at an arms length and hardly even spoke to me. I knew I’d fucked up, I knew it as soon as his eyes gravitated towards our conjoined hands, I will never make the same mistake again.
“What is so difficult about this? Josh learnt this at the age of 5!” She quickly hit me upside the head and made my hair fly out of its tightly bound updo. I felt the clips pull the smallest strands of my hair causing me to wince. Feeling my hair pull hurt more than the queens actually hand. “Maybe it is your partner?”
Yeah, maybe it was. I was trying my best to keep up with him, but the idiot butler seemed to be making it difficult for me to do so. The thought had never occurred to me that the fault may not actually lie with myself.
“Your Grace, I assure I am doing everything in my power to…” The queen rather quickly cut of the sniveling man and turned to him, her entire posture seemed to change when she reverted her gaze from me onto anyone else.
“I am aware Stewart. Do not trouble yourself.” She quickly sighed and pinched the bridge of her nose before turning to the royal beta who was stood in the corner of the large hall watching my disastrous failure.
“Lewis, you know this dance…” I watched as the betas eyes widened the smallest of fractions before he feign innocence. Yeah right, he was avoiding me like the plague and I had every single intention of figuring out why me touching him was such a big deal. Of course, I didn’t want to anger the man though, I genuinely don’t think I could bear it if he hit me. I considered him a Friend after all. “Please, come and attempt to tutor her.”
The queen waved me off, as if she had all but given up trying. I admit, I didn’t have a single ounce of rhythm in my body, which sucked when all I was trying to do was grasp the order of the steps, without counting out loud, or looking at my feet while I performed.
“Your grace, I really don’t think that is a wise choice… I…” It was officially validated, he really didn’t want to be near me. I knew, however, that the queen wouldn’t give him the choice.
“Nonsense, you have been tasked with watching over the girl, have you not? Let’s see if you can drill something into that head of hers.” She quickly held her hand out to Stewart expectantly, which he did indeed hold his arm out for, and preceded to escort her to a regal looking seat at the end of the hall.
Lewis stepped purposefully over to me before sighing and holding his own arms out in order to assume our dancing position. It was almost as if he would rather be doing anything else other than babysit me. Not that I
blame him.
“Please, just try and concentrate!” I didn’t meet his gaze, instead I nodded and hesitantly grasped his hand in my own. I heard him suck in a breath and shake his head in my peripheral vision but paid it no mind as I began to study my feet.
The music once again began to whirl and with it Lewis began to step our bodies around the hall.

Chapter 72
“1,2,3… 1,2,3…” He counted over and over again, until my foot came down onto his own, and once again the music stopped. He sighed and gripped my hand tighter. “Stop focusing so much on the steps and simply try to match my rhythm.” Easier said then done but still I nodded my head while not allowing my eyes to leave my feet. “Again…” the music once again started and he bagan to count. “1,2,3… 1,2,3… That’s it…” Wait, was I beginning to get it. My feet moved stiffly but they moved in time to the music and on beat with Lewis’s
movements.
“Stop looking at your feet, always look your dance partner in the eye.” My gaze moved slowly up to meet his and the room stopped, but our feet did not.
His pupils dilated at the sight of mine, and his posture became slightly stiffer than it was previously. His grip on my hand tightened ever so slightly and my movements became slightly more fluent.
I admit, it was easier to dance when I wasn’t looking at my feet, I could somewhat anticipate his next move, and was able to counter it when I needed too. When his left foot moved my right foot did, and so forth.
We continued to simply step on beat until Lewis did something unexpected, he spun me under his arm and caught my waist again after it, we were now pressed hip to hip and we continued to dance.
“Turn your left foot out a bit…” I did so and he too moved with sent us both now stepping sort of in a large circle. “Do it again…” I did and we continued to move to each other’s rhythm. By the time the music was coming to an end we were close, out chests practically pressed up against each other, right before the final note sounded and Lewis dipped my body lowly, his eyes never leaving mine.
We stayed like that for what felt like a lifetime, it was in hindsight, most likely a few seconds, just staring into each other orbs. Until our strange little intimate moment was cut short by the queens words.
“That… actually wasn’t terrible.” She nodded her head at Lewis then turned to me. “Your foot placement needs improving, your elbow should be raised slightly higher than it was, your head is to never look at the floor, and your back must remain ruler straight. If it wasn’t for your injuries I would have you wear a posture corrector.” For once I will say it, thank god for my injuries, posture correctors are awful, it’s like wearing a corset, with a tall and wide plank connected to the back, the board goes up just past your head and it’s width is as wide as your back, it is meant to train you to keep your back straight, my entire class was required to see what they were like, during one of our lessons when we were 15. “Lewis if you don’t mind, I think we should run the music again!”
He nodded his head, because let’s face it, he had about as much choice as I did in the situation and once again we began to twirl around the floor. This time however my eyes never once left his. Perhaps it was my partner that was stopping me from learning the steps, because if I kept practicing with Lewis then I’d be dancing rings around the royals.

I feel like Lewis is now her mate. I’m thinking her suicide attempt in a way broke whatever could have developed with Josh.. and Lewis is basically her second chance mate as she is for him. it would also explain why Josh’s wolf isn’t having an issue hurting her so badly…??
