Chapter 9
Chapter 9 Renee Has Other Secrets
In the conference room, everyone was looking at Renee.
Renee stood there in a loss. She couldn’t believe she had won first prize.
Quincy was seizing her up. Renee looked up and saw his surprised face.
Quincy had mixed feelings about the result.
Quincy didn’t expect to see Renee here at all. And he had no idea that Renee knew so much about design and everything since he had never seen her draw.
It just didn’t occur to him that No. 52 was her work.
He thought it was the most brilliant draft.
Quincy needed some time to accept this reality. After all, Renee used to strike him as a cunning gold digger who relied on men for everything.
Quincy thought it was just a show that she saved the woman last night.
However, Renee impressed him with her artistic abilities.
A lot was going on in Quincy’s head, but he kept a cold face.
Renee got a huge round of applause, with a trace of embarrassment.
After all, Lisa only came in second, defeated by an amateur from the General Affairs Department. Lisa looked upset but wanted to hide her emotions.
So Lisa forced a smile and said, “Renee, congratulations. I’m surprised at your talent. Why are you in the General Affairs Department rather than the Design Department? Don’t you want Mr. Patel to know about your talent?”
Quincy frowned and looked at them. He was indeed impressed by Renee.
Quincy wondered, “Was she hiding it for today? She wanted to get enough attention from me, right?”
Holding the certificate, Renee looked at Quincy calmly. “I wasn’t so confident before. Thank you, Mr. Patel, for giving me this chance. Of course, with Lisa, the brilliant overseas graduate, in the company, Mr. Patel could get more work done.”
Quincy narrowed his eyes, wondering if Renee was making fun of him. She volunteered for a place in the General Affairs Department. He never stopped her from doing what she wanted. But it sounded like Renee was blaming Quincy.
“Then you should put more effort into your work.”
With that, Quincy left.
“Renee, congratulations. I told you! Oh, who was talking about eating shit live?” Renee’s colleague asked. It was a cue for Fiona.
Fiona wanted to sneak out but Renee called her name.
“Where are you going? You haven’t done it yet.” Renee walked over and stopped Fiona.
Renee was never a pushover. If people offended her, she would make them pay.
“Renee, you think you’re above with the prize? I was joking just now. Let me go.”
Lisa chimed in, “Yes, Renee. We’re colleagues. Don’t make things difficult for each other.”
Renee sneered and thought, “What a phony bitch. You make me sound like a bad guy.”
But Renee didn’t care.
“Cut the crap. Just tell me if you’re going to keep your word,” Renee said, without looking at Lisa.
“No, what can you do to me?” Fiona said firmly.
Renee took a cup of water from the table and poured it all on Fiona’s face.
“Then I’ll help you. If I see you insult people again, you’ll have to pay more than this. Find someone better when you suck up next time. Don’t be blinded by the facade, or you’ll end up in trouble.”
Renee was referring to Lisa. With that, Renee left.
Fiona growled at Renee.
Looking at Renee’s back, Lisa gritted her teeth in anger.
She thought, “Renee, why are you getting in my way?”
Renee got the certificate and an award of 16 thousand dollars.
When she returned to the office, she was in a daze. The manager brought some colleagues to congratulate her. The buzz lasted for quite a while.
Then Renee got a call from the Personnel Department. “Ms. Braun, you did a brilliant job in this competition. Do you want to transfer to the Design Department? I believe you will shine there.”
“Thank you for asking, but I need to think about this.” Renee was going to leave the company.
The worker seemed to expect Renee’s response. After all, the bar in the Design Department was high.
Gazing at the certificate, Renee felt like she was having a dream. Being a designer was her childhood dream, but winning a prize for that had never crossed her mind.
Another call came.
Renee answered it directly. “Hello?”
“Why did you turn down the offer? Where else do you want to go then?”
It was Quincy. He sounded as condescending as ever.
“It’s none of your business.”
“Don’t rush into a bad decision. Accept the offer. Your talent won’t be ignored; instead, you will get more. Be realistic. You could make a favorable decision before, and you can now.”
“I was ignorant,” Renee said and hung up.
