CHAOS (Beneath The Secrets Book 1)

CHAOS: Chapter 22

Is that Brody? What the fuck is he doing here?

The fact that he’s walking away cradling his own hand kinda tells me that things didn’t go so well.

I’m not surprised she rejected him, but why is he here?

Why am I sitting down the street in my blacked-out Bentley, watching her?

She took my money and left me tied up at the club.

Sofia couldn’t hide that fire in her eyes from me, though. The moment she locked her gaze with mine, the same heat returned. Two years vanished, and it was just her and me in a room alone.

I want that again.

She was the only thing that kindled any emotion in me. I’ve been hiding that flame within me since the day she left.

Seeing her ignited an inferno I can’t put out.

“Enzo? I need a favor.” I know he has eyes and ears everywhere.

“Did you get in another fight, Jax?” He sounds bored.

I may have asked him a time or two to help me clean up messes.

“Not this time. I want to trace a car. Can you set it up to send me updates? And I need you to send me that pairing app so I can get a phone number.” It’s been handy. We use it to find out secrets for Frankie.

“Easier than sending out the cleaning team. Send me the license plates.”

It doesn’t take long to get both requests taken care of.

I don’t think I’m ready to knock on her door quite yet. Apparently, she knows how to keep it shut.

Good girl.

I’m in the gym working one of the heavy bags when the tracking app dings through my earbuds.

The velcro of me taking off my gloves almost drowns out the next notification.

“Where are you going, my little tigritsa?” Popping my phone out of my duffel, that sexy little red dot shows me she’s parking in one of the nearby casino parking lots.

“Hmm, gambling?” Lucky me, it’s one of the places under our protection, so we have access to the cameras.

White blouse, black skin-tight pants, and heels. My girl is dressed for success, and it makes me hard, thinking of pulling those high-class clothes off of her.

I’m just about out the door and climbing on my bike when I find her on another view, sitting on a bench near the office door with a piece of paper clenched in her hand.

What is she doing?

That place has a great taco bar, and I’m suddenly hungry. Purely a coincidence that I’ll be able to see the office door from the booth there.

It only takes a few minutes to make my way to the motorcycle parking near the main doors. The chilled air makes my scalp goosebump as it hits my sweaty head.

A cold beer and a bowl of chips and salsa help to kill the time until I see her walk out of the office behind an older woman with graying hair.

Sofia nods enthusiastically to whatever her guide is saying before they disappear into the kitchen area of this very restaurant.

I’m on my second Dos Equis when they reappear.

Fuck, she’s beautiful when she smiles. And she’s absolutely beaming.

I have to figure out how to make her grin like that when she looks at me.

When they shake hands, I watch my dark-haired beauty until she leaves.

The parking garage cameras catch her doing a happy dance next to her car before she climbs in.

It seems that burritos might be on the menu a lot more now.
