Chapter 1858
*
Professor Cruz was a senior professor at the local medical university, responsible for teaching students in their sophomore year and above.
With only three lectures a month and sometimes even fewer, his classes were always packed to capacity. The reason?
His teaching quality was unmatched. Every student he mentored personally had gone on to achieve great things. Most earned doctorates, while the "least accomplished" held master's degrees.
If Professor Zeller was considered one pillar of the medical world, then Professor Cruz was undoubtedly the other.
The two were strikingly different in one key way.
While Professor Zeller was known for wielding influence and had even founded the prestigious "Tree of Life Association" to gather top talent in the field, Professor Cruz preferred a more carefree life. He was elusive, often absent even to the students he directly mentored. Securing a spot in one of his classes was nearly impossible. It was a rare opportunity not to be missed.
Yet Wilfred said casually, "I got you a seat as a guest in his class. It's this week."
"Really?"
Seeing Karina nearly leap with excitement, Wilfred couldn't help but smile. With patience, he assured her, "Really. Next Wednesday. He just got back from a trip.
"If all goes well, he might be able to help with your paper."
Wilfred himself couldn't do much about Karina's paper. He was already blacklisted by the Association, a fact he didn't particularly care about. But Professor Cruz was a different story. It was well-known that he and Professor Zeller were not only acquainted but quite familiar with one another.
There was a chance that Professor Cruz could mediate on Karina's behalf or suggest another approach to solve the problem.
Wilfred didn't want Karina to end up in the same mess he had caught up in the Association's politics and power struggles.
However, Karina was too busy celebrating the good news to notice the deeper intentions behind Wilfred's actions.
With this promising development, the rejection of her paper felt insignificant. She eagerly looked forward to Wednesday, counting down the days.
Finally, the day arrived.
The medical university campus was lined with lush green trees that shaded the pathways. Nearby, the sports field echoed with laughter, while students, vibrant with youthful energy, strolled past, chatting and smiling.

Breathing in the fresh campus air, Karina felt as though she had been transported back in time, shedding a few years off her shoulders. Oh, how wonderful student life had been!
Now that she was working, it was all nine-to-five, with constant overtime. It felt like an endless grind-far from the carefree days of school. "Excuse me, do you know where Professor Cruz's lecture is being held?" Karina politely asked a passerby.
The student gave her a strange look, clearly not realizing she wasn't from the university. "Are you a freshman or an upperclassman? How do you not know where Professor Cruz's class is?"
Karina laughed awkwardly, unsure of how to explain. After all, she wasn't a student.
Fortunately, the student pointed her toward a building. "Over there-the second classroom on the third floor. It's about to start, so you'd better hurry. Oh, and if you know someone inside, ask them to save you a seat."
They even offered her a kind reminder.

Karina glanced at her watch and realized she was running late. She quickly thanked the student and rushed toward the building, not bothering to ask why saving a seat was so important. After all, she had a spot in the guest section, so there was no need to worry about seating.
As Karina hurried away, the student shook their head and muttered, "Another one who won't get a seat. No surprise-Professor Cruz's lectures are just that popular."
