Chapter Regret 9
BOOK1 Chapter9
Linda panicked, grabbing his arm. "Ryan, don't listen to him! He's lying! Why would you believe this old man?"
Ryan studied her for a moment, then pulled his arm away.
"Linda, why are you so nervous? If you're innocent, we have nothing to hide."
Linda's face was pale. She stumbled, nearly falling. Ethan's men quickly apprehended
her.
They followed Michael to the backyard. The disturbed earth had been smoothed over by the rain, but Michael led them directly to the spot where I was buried. "Here, Sir. Right here. Start digging."
Ryan nodded to his men, and Ethan's men joined in. Soon, a shout went up.
"Sir, we found her!"
They pulled my body from the shallow grave. The earth had begun to reclaim me, the
stench of decay heavy in the air. But my face, though partially decomposed, was still
recognizable.
"Sir, it's her. It's Mrs. Walker. And... and there's something else...
"What is it?" Ryan's voice was barely a whisper.
"A fetus, Sir. A baby boy."
Ryan stumbled back, his face ashen.
"What... what did you say? No... No, it can't be. She's too... she's too c**g to die so easily. This can't be her!"

Ethan stood nearby, his eyes filled with grief. He knew it was me. He had known from the moment they started digging. But to convince Ryan, he called for the medical examiner he had brought with him. "Please, examine the body."
The results were conclusive.
"Mr. Walker, this is indeed the body of your wife, Sophia Walker. And the fetus... It is indeed your son."
Ryan stood frozen, his lips trembling. He stared at my body, his eyes welling up with
tears.
"Sophia... You're playing a trick on me, right? Wake up, Sophia. Stop pretending. Get up! If you don't, I swear I'll... I'll have you cremated! Do you hear me?"
His voice cracked, ending in a desperate sob.
I floated nearby, watching him, unable to comprehend his shock. He had killed me.
Hadn't he?
Ethan, though heartbroken, remained calm. He addressed the medical examiner.
"How did my sister die?"
The medical examiner sighed. Even he, with years of experience dealing with death, was visibly shaken by the state of my body. His eyes held a flicker of pity.
"Mrs. Walker's death... it was brutal. There are signs of repeated sexual assault, including broken bones. She was beaten, kicked, and struck with a blunt object." He paused, his voice catching. "The cause of death was strangulation. Someone tightened something around her neck until she suffocated. This was no accident, Mr. Walker.
This was murder."
Ethan's eyes reddened with fury. He lunged at Ryan, pummeling him with his fists. But he regained control, his voice trembling with grief and rage.
