Chapter 14: Drive you home
He didn't knock as he entered the small file room.He stood there and looked around, if he was impressed by the work I'd had
done in just two days he didn't say it.
Instead when his eyes came back to me they were as cold and hard as an ice block.
Once upon a time they used to look at me like I was his whole world.
"Get up.We are leaving."
I blinked up at him, not understanding where he was taking me.
His eyes narrowed on me and he said, "You are not doing a good job of following my orders."
Not giving into the urge to roll my eyes, I stood up and grabbed my small purse.
Pressing my hand down to smooth out my skirt, I rounded the desk and I asked, "Where are you taking me?"
"Your home.I decided I'll drop my whore back at her place at the end of the day."
His words made me wince and he saw it as a moment later he grabbed my wrist to pull me in front of him.
His hard eyes caressed my face and he said, "I won't let you forget it.The way I couldn't forget.I'll keep reminding you and myself
who you truly are."
I bit down the inside of my cheek and stared back at him.I won't give him the satisfaction of knowing how his words were
scratching at my bruised heart.
He gripped my face and dug his fingers into my cheeks as he demanded, "Say it."
One thing about Kristian was, he always lashed out and did everything he could to not be the only one feeling the pain.
When someone hurts him he hurts them back tenfold.
And he didn't know how to stop until his enemy was beaten down and destroyed.
I had seen it with my own eyes.I knew it deep in my bones how far he could go.
So there was no trying to fight it.
Also, I just didn't want to fight him.
He had his demons and I used to be his comforting place despite our age difference but then I turned on him, became the one
who broke his trust, and became another person in his list of demons.
"I am a whore." I said, giving him what he wanted.
Or maybe I was just a glutton for punishment His lips twisted.
"Whose?"
"Yours."
Only his.
Ever his.
"That's right.Don't you ever forget that."
He walked out of the room and made me follow him.
Unlike him my steps were hesitant as I followed him, I didn't want him to drop me home.
In the form i had filled out, I had lied about my town, my schooling and my current address.
And my status as a mother.
I hadn't filled out any important stuff that would lead the people here to my personal life but now he wanted to drop me home:
Please, God, make him have a flat tire: And he totally deserves it.
Nope.
Not on my side.
Like he ever is.
Why, god, why? His car didn't have a flat tire.
It didn't have anything that would make it any less than the beauty that she was.
My lips curved up as a memory from the past resurfaced.
The time he had gotten his Ferrari GT and he had taken me on a long drive.
And how we had spent the evening later in the hillside.
When we got to the parking space, he strode toward his black Porsche, unlocking it on the way and without waiting for me or
even without looking in my direction he opened the driver side door and slipped inside.
A moment later I heard the ignition turning on.
I jogged quickly to the passenger side before he could get irritated and start to throw more of his mean words at me.
The moment I sat down, I tried, I had to.
I said, "You don't have to drive me.I can go.I'll take the subway."
He didn't say anything.
His fingers held the steering wheel like one would hold a lover as he pulled out of the parking lot and drove.
Fifteen minutes later, I knew where he was heading.
The Blue Sky Apartments, the wrong address I had written on the form after looking it up on google.
I licked my lips and tried again, "You can drop me here.
I had a few things to buy."
Finally, his gaze turned to me and he said, "I'll stop and wait.
Where do you want to go?"
My brows went up on my forehead in surprise.
But I couldn't take him up on his offer, I didn't have enough money to let him know that I wasn't making things up.
I sighed.
"I will buy them later."
I would just have to suck it up.
He will drop me off and I will wait for him to leave then I'll make my way to the nearest subway.
It will probably cost me to take a different and longer route back to my actual place but I think I could manage this time.
I won't ask for the usual butterscotch pastry this week.
That thought made me sad, more than the fact that I would be late to reach on time to my shift at the diner.
1 Ten minutes later, the car came to a slow stop at the sky high, light blue building.
I turned to him and said, "Thank you."
He looked at me for a long moment that made me nervous and then, he said, "Let me walk you in."
I didn't understand why he was becoming such a gentleman all of a sudden.
We both knew he hated me.
I shook my head and put a smile on my face as I said, "No, you don't have to do that."
I closed my eyes and cursed my fate as he opened his door and stepped out.
I questioned God why he hated me so much as I saw Kristian rounding the car.
The answer didn't come and I didn't wait as I opened the door and stepped out.
When he came to stand on my side, I blurted out, "You can't come inside."
He arched a brow.
I licked my lips and looked for a reason why he couldn't come inside except that he would know that I didn't live here.
I said, "Mom wouldn't want to see you."
The silence stretched between us and he didn't say anything.
After what felt like hours he stood back against his car, crossed his legs at the ankles and folded his arms across his chest.
I gulped as I saw the picture he made.
He looked like a GQ model.
Today, he was wearing a suit that was a combination of blood red and dark brown.
It had him looking so handsome.
Not to mention the stubble that he hadn't shaved, now thick gave him a rugged sexy look.
"Go on, Elsa."
I wrenched my eyes from his hands, where he was twisting something on his pinky finger and looked up to meet his eyes.
He said, "Get inside."
"Yes..."
I turned around and faced the entrance of the building, even from outside I could see the lit foyer and the security guards on the
other side of the door and one watchman sitting outside.
Looking over my shoulder, I said, "You should go."
"I will.
You go inside."
Of course.
Why would God make this easy for me? But still I prayed every step I took toward the glass door that the watchman or the
security guards wouldn't stop me.
When I was close enough to the watchman, I peeked over my shoulder and saw Kristian still standing there.
Fûck my life.
When I turned back around the watchman was eyeing me, I gave him a small smile as I pulled the glass doors open and stepped
inside.
One of the guards asked, "Here to visit someone?"
I turned to him and licked my lips nervously.
I said, "Actually, I just wanted to get away from the creep that's following me.
He's standing outside by his car."
The guard turned to look and I did too.
Kristian was still standing and he was glowering which turned out to be in my favor as the guard turned to me and said, "No
worries, you can wait inside on one of the couches.
Do you want me to shoo him away for you?"
"No!"
I gasped.
The guard looked at me suspiciously.
I said in a small voice, "I don't want to make a scene.
Please.
I'm sure he will leave."
+ The guard nodded and I walked inside out of the view of the glass doors.
I checked my battered phone again and again, and when seven minutes passed I decided it was enough time for him to have
left.
So I decided to leave too.
I thanked the guard and left the building, coming outside I took a deep breath when I didn't see him or his Porsche.
But even as I made my way to the subway I felt like someone was watching me.
