Chapter 112 –
Paxton's POV
It was hard to do, but I would let Cara go. She was right; I had been a coward and didn't protect her. Lisa was a horrible bitch to her. I only found out today just how terrible she had been to her. Why didn't the doctor mention that Cara kept having to go to the pack hospital? I wanted answer's and I was going to ask, as I also wanted to get the subject off of Rex. We learned a lot today, but I knew Saoirse was keeping something back.
Something that I was sure would be just as explosive as what had just been exposed. Anton walked over to her and said something. I saw her glance over to the gate, and the smile that crossed her face was scary. There was no love lost between her and Emily. That was painfully clear. It was also clear that she would level both Emily and Lisa simultaneously."Devin is right, Emily. I didn't do anything to you or your family. It was your family doing the majority of wrongdoings around Kamaria," Saoirse said.
I was nervous now. What Lisa did was terrible, really terrible. But my gut told me that the bigger secret was about to come out, which made me very anxious. If Lisa was planning to bankrupt the pack, and Devin not being Rex's father wasn't the main issue, I was getting terrified to hear what it was.
"Didn't I tell you to get out of here? You are trespassing, witch. We don't want your kind here. We never did. We would have never allowed you on our parklands if James hadn't spoken up for you. I have never been happier than the day you got what you deserved for thinking that James could ever be yours. You were an embarrassment to our pack, and I wasn't the only one who felt that way."If you're reading this on any site other than Job, this content has been stolen! I was so glad you got booted out of the pack. Cara was left behind. I encouraged Lisa to ensure that Cara knew her place here in Kamaria. It is too late to fix anything now, as what's done is done," Emily said and then started to laugh. It was clear that Emily thought this was all over.
"How can you stand there and act like what you did was good? You realize Lisa was a stand-in because I couldn't have the woman I wanted. I never wanted Lisa as my mate; you forced me into accepting her. You should have been embarrassed by what you did, not think it was funny. No wonder Lisa turned out the way she did," I scoffed.
"Funny you should mention that Paxton. We need to get to the meat of the matter. I have been told by a highly reliable source that Gamma Emily has committed treason against the pack," Saoirse stated.
I whirled around to look at Gamma Emily, whose face gave me the answers I needed. I motioned for some of the warriors to approach and handcuff her with the silver cuffs. They only burn if you try to fight against them. If she stays calm, they will not bother her at all. But after seeing her in action today, I knew she would fight. She has never in my lifetime been like she is today.
The moment they stepped up to cuff her, she lost it. "Don't touch me. I want to know what the charges are against me. I will not stand for this! Devin! Devin, please help me. I haven't done anything wrong," Gamma Emily wailed out. The warriors had to wrestle her to get her handcuffed. Lisa tried to stop them, but with her broken leg, she was not much help. Gamma Emily fought tooth and nail to escape but was finally handcuffed.
"Saoirse, can you tell us the charges against her?" my father asked. I could tell by his expression that he had a suspicion of what it was. I could also tell that my mother was visibly upset. I could tell they were thinking the same thing, but I had no idea what was happening here. "I sure can, Alpha Hugo. Anton told me that Emily used to help Luna Mary Anne with the pack accounting. She would occasionally offer to help her with the pack books. He gave me an amount of missing funds, that have been taken over the last twenty-four years. Money that was stolen from the pack before Paxton took over as Alpha," she replied.
"She did help Mary Anne with the books. Emily was good with numbers, and she was the Gamma. That was why we trusted her. We were ten years into it when we discovered the variance. We didn't know if someone was hacking into the pack account or what had happened. We lost a lot of money over the years. I would like to get it back if we can. It is the money we used to help run the pack. The groceries, electricity, and water are all paid from this account. We only noticed the account was off when the bank advised us that we had gone into overdraft. I had to use my personal funds to fix it, but we never figured out how it was taken from the account. I believe you, Saoirse, it was a great deal of money. Is there any way to get it back?" my father responded.
"It is indeed a great deal of money, Alpha Hugo. A little over eighteen million dollars over twenty-four years. It is no small charge against her. That is a huge amount for her to have embezzled. It would help to get a forensic accountant here to review the books. I suggest you start from the moment you allowed her to help and then move forward," Saoirse advised him, and my knees went weak.
"How did she manage to steal over eighteen million dollars, Dad? You would have known Mom didn't do it. It could only be the only other person who helped her. How could this have happened? Can we get it back? It is our money, after all," I cried out.
That is a ridiculous amount of money. I could see twenty thousand being a variance with a food order not being entered or something, but this? This is a deliberate act against our pack. My mind is all over the place. I can't focus. This is bad, really bad. I never even knew. Why did my parents keep that information from me. It makes sense now how she always had the latest clothes and bags. The ranked wolves get paid. Everyone here does, but not enough for her to afford all she has had over the years. New cars every few years, and always going shopping with Lisa. That was a huge red flag. They didn't pay rent and lived here, so rent and food were free. I thought that she just spent all of Gamma Devin's money. How could my parents not have seen it?
"Emily swore it wasn't her, Paxton. We did question her about the missing money. But we couldn't see what happened with it. We had to put it down to a clerical error, as when we went through the books, everything seemed accurate," my mother sobbed out.
Gamma Emily had been her best friend, and I knew this hurt her. Being betrayed by your friend tends to do that to you. My father had infused the pack with ten million of his own money to correct it. He should have told Mom right then to stop allowing Gamma Emily into the account. "Got nothing to say now, Emily?" Saoirse mocked.
Emily looked away and kept her mouth shut. There was no way we were going to let her get away with this. "Is there any money left?" I asked. I was scared to hear the answer, but we needed to know.
I knew that Emily had lived an exorbitant lifestyle. But I highly doubt that she could have spent the whole thing. It hit me that Emily was planning to rob the pack, too. Like mother, like daughter, and I will not let them off lightly. The pack members that are here are loud with the comments they are making. They remember when things got really tight here about thirteen years ago. Now, we all know it was because of Emily. Knowing that Lisa planned to do the same thing, they are really wanting them to be punished.
"It is my money, and I won't be giving it back. I would rather die, and you lose any possibility of getting it back than return it," Emily said and then started laughing.
"We can get it back, but it is only around eight and a half million at this time," Anton spoke.
"You can locate it?" my father asked.
Anton nodded and said, "I know where it is and her login information. We can transfer it back to the pack, but she spent a great deal of it. She bought three properties you can sell and recoup more of your money." "You can't do that. It is my money, you have no right to steal it from me like that," Gamma Emily was fighting against the warriors to try to get loose.
"That money was not yours to begin with, Emily. You can't claim it's yours just because you stole it. Thankfully, the council is here and heard the whole thing. But look on the bright side. You don't have to worry about moving out of your apartment anymore, Emily. They will be taking you to jail to stand trial for theft. Don't get sad. Your daughter plotted against the pack, too. She will be going with you. She has numerous counts of assault against her, plus she already admitted to planning on bankrupting the pack. She was sworn in as the Luna. She might not have taken the money yet, but she had plans to. That is enough to prove treason against the pack," Saoirse announced, motioning towards the gate.
"You can't do that. You have no authority over us. Let us go, and we will leave," Emily blustered out. She really thought that we would just let her go.
"You won't be going anywhere except the cells at the werewolf council. Eighteen million dollars is a great deal of money. You will be lucky not to get the death penalty," one of the council members called out as he walked forward to take Emily's arm. They got a wheelchair from the pack hospital and took both Lisa and Emily to their SUV. The female council member slowly approached Rex. When they stood in front of each other, they said, "Mate," before embracing.
Well good for him, but I still wanted my mate. How is Rex getting lucky so quickly? I guess the Goddess sent her here for him. Cara walked out the gate with the vampire, and his arm was firmly wrapped around her. I wasn't dumb enough to run over there and try to stop them. Saoirse strolled past me with a small smile and said, "Once things settled here again. It would help if you visited the Grey Stone pack. I have a feeling that you will find your mate there."I nodded in thanks. I would surely go there to find my mate, but I didn't even get to tell Cara goodbye, which hurt. I promised her and her mate to leave her alone. I will follow through with what I said. It is the least I can do for Cara.
