Chapter 181
RYAN
"I am listening."
She stared down at her hand and sighed. "Clover was the first to approach me at the estate, but I didn't want to work with him at that time, so I kicked him out, later, when you told us to leave the estate, I knew I had to reach out to him."
The detective glanced at me and I nodded, catching on his silent request to let him take over from her. "What was his offer when he approached you and what was his offer when you approached him?"
"I can't remember what exactly it was that he said to me, but I know it was about ruining your family, and when I went back to him, I gave him an idea on how to make it happen."
"And what idea was that?"
Licking her lips, she nervously glanced at me.
"answer the question and stop staring at me." I scolded.
"I was the one who suggested the abduction of your kids. I knew that would keep you away from the office and would allow me to get my way into the company."
I scoffed. "Are you really that stupid?" I deadpanned, "You think you can easily access my company just because I was absent?"
"Not if I was going to make you sign over some of the shares to me through your secretary, but when your mum showed up, we knew our plan had flopped."
"So killing my father was not enough, you had to go ahead and abduct my kids?"
Her eyes watered. "I just wanted to get away from poverty." She defended herself. "I just wanted less than one percent of what you had."
"At the detriment of other people's happiness?" the detective demanded. "at the detriment of his kids' life and the sanity of his wife?"
To think I share the same blood with this bitch. "My father." I rasped. "why did you kill him?"
She fell silent.
"I think this is game over for you Maya." The detective reasoned. "with the cufflink that was found in the
vent, either you or your mother is going to jail because one of you did it."
"Leave my mother out of this." She muttered, "She was only trying to protect me."
"So she killed him?" he demanded, tilting his head.
Maya shook her head. "No, I did."
My body froze at the words I had already suspected for a long time. "Why?"
She licked her lips nervously, avoiding my eyes.
"Why?!" I yelled, slamming my hand on the table. The laptop and the books on the table rattled.
The detective placed his hand on mine and squeezed gently. "if you cannot handle this, I advise you to step outside."
Exhaling heavily, I ran my fingers through my hair. "I am fine." I sniffed, fighting the urge to reach across the table and squeeze her neck. "I can handle it."
He watched me in silence for a while before returning his attention to Maya. "Why did you do it?"
"He found out," she mumbled.
"Found out what?" I hissed.
"that I am not really his daughter." She revealed.
I froze, blinking rapidly at her. "You killed my father because he found out that you and your mother are nothing but fraud?"
Avoiding everyone's gaze, she
looked down at her hand. "He was
my only ticket to getting out of poverty, Chuckling bitterly, she wiped her cheeks. "He was going to kick us out, and I was certain he would change the will too, so I had to do something about it
The detective nodded. "take me through on what really happened."
"I returned from a walk, and when I came in, I saw Richard's car parked outside. I looked into the car by
chance, not that I wanted to, and I saw something on the passenger seat. A DNA result with his name on
it."
I scoffed. This bitch is not only cruel but deranged.
"Richard has only one child as far as
I know, and I know he can't be questioning the paternity of that son because he looks so much like him, so I knew that instant the DNA was about me." She continued. "as if to confirm my suspicion, I overheard him questioning my mum about her pregnancy, and when I walked in, they kept quiet about it. So I knew I had to do something."
She slowly lifted her head at the sound of the detective's voice. "So what did you use in killing him?" the detective asked. "did you go out to buy the poison?"
She shook her head. "Mum bought some pesticides for the pest eating up her flowers, so I figured it
would do the trick, so I added it to the coffee I made for him. he took just two sips though, and said he was leaving."
"How did he lose the cufflinks?"
"I didn't think the coffee he took
would be enough to make the
poison work, so I held onto his hand,
begging him not to go, but he was
more angry than ever, he eventually pulled his hand off my hold and walked away. I am guessing that was the time he lost the cufflink."
"So probably, he went to the lawyer from there, suspecting that his drink was altered, to get his will changed."
I don't think I will ever forgive her. "Jail sentence shouldn't be enough punishment for you." I spat, pushing to my feet. "I am out of here. I need to go home to my family." Turning I stomped out of the door and banged it behind me.
