Chapter 1343
illness got him inexplicably despondent. An unprecedented thought of giving up was silently budding within him.
Trevor's heart frosted over when he thought back to every time Victoria fell sick and how she looked being with a frail Anthony. He thought she'd come to realize his love for her after going through so much and treat their marriage seriously. However, his sudden minor Maybe there was nothing he could do to make up for their imperfect encounter. If he was still incomparable to that b*stard to her today, should he really let her go and move on?
What was the point of him pouring his heart and soul into the marriage when his wife thought nothing of him?
Having absolutely no idea Trevor's mindset had done a one-eighty, Victoria brooded over what she should bring over after going home while warming some milk for him. As things happened too suddenly, she had the butler bring some breakfast over. She thought she'd still have to cook him something when she had the time; it was her thought no matter what.
As he continued to ignore her, she piped down after mumbling to herself. After she was done busying, she stayed by his side quietly and watched the nurse give him his medication, asking a thing or two when they told him to take note of some things.
A while later, Trevor's phone rang, and Victoria conscientiously went out to stroll in the hallway. By the time she came back, he was nodding off while taking his IV drip. With that, she quietly rested her head on the edge of his bed.
The silent morning quietly slipped away, and Victoria began doing her only job at noon, feeding him. Like that morning, the inexplicably strange feeling and gaze enveloped her once again. Seeing that he still wouldn't utter a word when she was done clearing the table, she tidied up the notes and charged his phone before slumping down aside.
"Hubby, how are you doing lying down? Do you want to stroll around?"
No response!
"Is there anything you want me to do for you, Hubby?"
She was talking to the air!
She exhaled a murky breath before trying again. "Hubby, what would you like for dinner? How about fish chowder?"
But before she could finish her words, somebody shut his eyes as a response.
Having been flagrantly despised, she knew she had been snubbed again, feeling disconsolate, surprised that he would be so upset this time!
She felt very uncomfortable right then! She kept her mouth open for a long time but never said anything as she had never comforted a man so shamelessly. With that, she got up and tucked him in before moving wearily toward the couch.
Winter afternoons were so warm that they always had people feeling sleepy. Victoria shot up from her nap to hear slow, steady breathing coming from the bed.
Had he fallen asleep?
After rubbing her eyes, she jogged to the bed and tucked him in again.
It was great that he had fallen asleep; he wouldn't look at her with strange gazes, nor would she need to strain her mind to talk to him when he had fallen asleep. What was more, the doctor said he had signs of burnout. He was worn out and needed rest! "C'mon, I didn't do anything. Petty..."
After mumbling by the bed, something came to her, and she fished a sticky note out to leave a memo for him before quickly leaving the ward.
Thinking that he wouldn't be waking up so soon, she took a trip home to pack his everyday clothes and daily necessities and even made some soup for him, more soup than ingredients, really, thinking it'd be perfect for his current diet. She later even made some madeleine, using them to please him during afternoon tea.
With that, she rushed to get everything done, hoping to hurry back to the hospital late afternoon.
Meanwhile, Selena had already arrived at the hospital with some soup, seeing the memo with cute handwriting on the bedside table the moment she entered Trevor's ward.
"I didn't run away, Hubby. Don't get upset! Went home to get your clothes; BRB! =)"
Selena's face darkened, dumbstruck. That woman had been here?
Trevor said he was fine the day before and would leave the hospital immediately, and that woman clearly hadn't a clue. But how had he not only stayed, but she had even come in a blink of an eye? Inexplicably frustrated, Selena thought she had missed the world. If she hadn't remembered to check up on him, she would never have known he was still admitted, and his illness had even worsened! Sh*t!
She should have come sooner! She was so close; had things returned to square one once again?
Just as she was deep in thought, rustling noises came from the bed, and she reflexively grabbed the sticky note, crumpling it up into a ball.
Opening his eyes lazily to find a silhouette right in front of him, Trevor shot right up. "Selena? What are you doing here?"
An indescribable expression laced his face as he subconsciously swept his gaze across the room, musing, "She's not here?"
Capturing the panic and disappointment that flashed across his eyes, her sharp nails dug into her palm, feeling as though there was a viper within her constantly sticking its tongue out as she took in his subtle abnormality. What was he worried about?
Did he have to be so afraid of that woman meeting her?
Her insides churned severely, but she couldn't let her true feelings show, even having to smile, pretending not to know anything.
"Who else would it be? What's wrong, Trevor?"
"Nothing! Why did you come at this time?"
Heavens, mid-afternoon was when the sun shone the brightest! He wasn't too happy when the thought came to him. Plus, he was inexplicably panicked for fear that Victoria would suddenly return and walk in on her, unprecedentedly at a loss. Deep down, he didn't wish for their meeting to be abrupt but both mentally aware and prepared.
Therefore, he was like a cat on a hot tin roof right then.
"You said you were fine yesterday, so I thought you would've been discharged. But when I called to see how you're doing, you didn't answer So I called your office to learn that you're still in the hospital. I thought your gastric must've acted up again, so rushed over! Are you hungry, Trevor? I brought some soup that'll help with your stomach. It's an allnatural remedy; you can treat it like water..."
But the more attentive Selena was, the more upset he got.
"Okay, thanks. I'll drink it when I'm thirsty. Go home, Nana! It's too risky for you to be out at this time! What if something bad happens to you?"
"Trevor, I'm worried about you. I want to stay with you..."
"Nana! Don't make me worry! My problem will relapse for a couple of days when I get stressed out, and you know it. I'll be fine after a few injections; nothing to worry about!"
Just then, Trevor's phone rang. As he answered the call, he decided for Selena.
"Holger happens to be on his way over. I'll have him send you home later!" "Trevor?"
"Listen!"
Worried that they'd run into each other, Trevor wished she could leave as soon as possible.
"You have an unusual condition! I know you're worried about me, but can you not ever take such risks? You'll make me worry! Don't tell me you don't know the severity of your illness, Nana? You might even die from it!" Trevor held her hand, a long time since he had last done so. "Don't take your life for granted! Love yourself more!"
"I will be fine as long as you are..."
Seeing that right as he reached the door, Holger paused for a moment before knocking. "Mr. Trevor..."
He first handed Trevor a few documents and briefly talked about work before leaving with Selena.
Watching from the window, Trevor heaved a sigh of relief when the two had gone far. Just as he was about to turn around after drawing the curtains, something struck him, and he immediately looked back out. Their manner... Why do they look like an affectionate couple? Were they holding hands and walking arm in arm? Was it just the angle or...
Were Selena and Holger close?
Later, he turned around and scanned the room, looking grim. Where had that woman gone to? He couldn't believe she slipped away while he was taking a nap! Would it kill her to spend a little more time with him? When he circled the room to find her bag gone, his mood worsened. Did she have something to attend to, or had she gone to that ward?
Maybe... he should go on a stroll and get some fresh air?
But right as he moved his feet, a nurse came in with a medical cart. "Mr. Clements, it's time to take your injection! Or would you prefer to make a trip to the washroom first?"
Her words pulled Trevor back to reality, and he dispelled his fleeting thought. With that, he returned to his bed in a horrible mood.
When Victoria returned from her trip
home, she brought a significantly-
sized suitcase with her for fear of
forgetting something! She even
brought the soup she made in hand, though it ended up an
One
unpleasant sight. But since she put
it in a food jar, it didn't look too bad.
Hence, she was pretty happy when she came back to the hospital.
Right as she exited the elevator, she looked up only to see Anthony standing mindlessly in front of the door. As their eyes met, she only bowed her head in greeting but put her hand up to stop him from approaching her, never saying a word the entire time. Things were already a mess. No matter whose sake it was for, she thought it was best if they didn't interact ever again!
She then left Immediately, never
noticing how kurt he looked.
Meanwhile, Trevor couldn't hold his restless mind down as he sulked in his ward Despite his inability to move, his unconsciousness couldn't even stop him from using a little bit of his connection to have someone connect the surveillance of that floor to his phone. But just as he began watching, he saw the two making sheep's eyes.
With that, he slammed his phone down, gnashing his teeth as he shut his eyes. At the same time, the subtle sound of the wheels of a suitcase rolling traveled to his ears.
Worried that she'd disturb his rest, Victoria picked the suitcase up when she was still some distance away from the door, panting when she entered.
"Hubby, you're awake!"
