Be My Wife, Be Rich by Charlotte Aaron Novel

Chapter 30

Chapter 30

Alexa didn’t even wait for Fiona’s okay. She just c**d her head towards Fiona and whipped out her phone for a “sweet” selfie.

Fiona was so grossed out she got the chills. In a flash, she grabbed Alexa’s phone and chucked it to the ground, her voice frosty. “No way am I taking a picture with you!”

Staring at her wrecked phone, Alexa lost her cool, Shooting Fiona a look of pure loathing, she snapped, “Have you lost your mind, Fiona? I was just trying to snap a quick pic with you so Mom and Dad would feel at ease. If you’re not into it, fine, but why trash my phone?”

Alexa was seeing red. The photo wasn’t for Macy and Dexter. They couldn’t care less about Fiona or if she was okay with Alexa. Alexa was just aiming to

blast a tweet.

Alexa was set on making it into showbiz. She had this plan brewing for ages to rub elbows with the right crowd and put herself out there. The goal was to wow everyone at Blueden Girls’ School this year and jump straight to the spotlight after tossing her grad cap. With her family’s connections, her own talent, and smarts, she was sure to snap up the golden tickets in the industry. Her agent was already lining up gigs, and things were moving smoothly until Fiona messed it all up.

Though the mess at the party was cleaned up, the web was still buzzing with rumors that Alexa was out to get Fiona. Alexa couldn’t stand even a speck of mud on her glossy image. Her rep had to be spotless. Her agent figured a friendly pic with Fiona could clear the air and win her some new fans-a solid ⚫ move for her career launch.

Alexa continued, “it’s just for a photo…” But Fiona cut her off sharp, “I don’t care why you want it. You’ve got your game, Alexa. But seriously, I’d rather bunk with a zombie than snap a selfie with you!”

Fury was written all over Alexa’s face. “Keep it up and I’ll get Sean to kick you out!”

Fiona just gave a cheeky shrug. “Ooh, I’m shaking Go ahead, tell him to expel me!”

Fiona glanced at her watch, spun around, and almost bumped into Nathan, who was headed their way. Nathan was all decked out in a suit and tie, looking sharp but somehow off. It was like he was carrying a ton of weight on his shoulders, and it really dulled his usual charm.

Nathan spotted Fiona and his eyes blazed with rage. “Fional” he bellowed like he was ready to tear her apart.

Locked away for four grueling days, Nathan had been stewing alone in a dingy cell. Not a single soul dropped by to chat. Those days were tougher than anything he’d faced growing up, driving him almost to the brink of madness. Released on bail just the night before, and after being squeezed for a w h o p p in g 8 million dollars, Nathan had it out for both Alexa and Fiona

But Alexa had Sean in her corner, so Nathan had to bite his tongue and play nice with her. Fiona was a different story though. He was just itching for a chance to get back at her.

Fiona raised an eyebrow and sassed him. “What? You wanna beg me something?”

In a flash of rage, Nathan swung at her, but Fiona caught his fist like it was nothing. Looking him dead in the eye, she couldn’t resist a jibe. “What’s the matter, Nathan? You’re looking kinda weak. Did Clare run you ragged at the station?”

Nathan was fuming, staring dappers at her. “I’m gonna get you, Fional” he vowed, straining with all his might, but he couldn’t even wiggle out of her grip. “Chill out, dude,” Fiona taunted. “I wouldn’t wanna see you pop a vein or something…especially since you still owe me cash!

Alexa had been hoping Nathan would give Fiona apiece of his mind, but he was just no match for her. When she saw Nathan ready to blow a gasket, Alexa figured it was her chance. She knew Nathan’ blamed her for getting busted, but now it all seemed to be spilling over onto Fiona.

Alexa quit the sidelines, masked her gloat, and darted over to them. “Backoff, Fional” She shot Fiona a bitter look, then turned to Nathan with crocodile tears. “Nathan, you okay?” She glared at Fiona and went on the attack. “Can’t you see Nathan’s deeply hurt? How much more are you gonna crush him?

Fiona was totally grossed out by Alexa’s sappy show, so with a disgusted nudge, she pushed Nathan right into Alexa. Both tumbled to the ground in a

heap.

Watching the two of them in a pile, Fiona clapped her hands mockingly, her gaze drilling into Nathan. “Don’t forget, you still owe me money.”

Alexa found herself squished under Nathan, and she was laying it on thick. Clasping his face in her hands, she blubbered, “Nathan, you’ve lost so much weight. You look terrible. Have you had a rough time? They shouldn’t have done this to you!” She wrapped her arms around him, tears flowing. “It’s my fault, all of it. I hatched that plan ’cause Fiona was going all out, hounding you and Ms. Quinn for the house and the dough. I just wanted you two to call off the engagement and get you out of her clutches. I didn’t see all this mess coming. I swear, I had no clue about those reporters and cops. This is on me, Nathan. I hate seeing you suffer.

Nathan softened up big time, watching Alexa lose it. He wasn’t mad at her anymore. “My little goof, how could I be mad at you? I heard my mom slapped you because she was freaking out about me. You…”

The second Fiona stepped out the school gates, she clocked a black Passat parked out front. She scoped out the license plate and then strolled over.

After a few steps, her phone started buzzing, and her nerves jangled when she saw it was Sebastian calling. Why’s he ringing me now? Can’t pick up… she panicked in silence. Instead of hitting decline, Fiona froze, letting it ring on until it dropped the call by itself. Shaking it off, she kept going, popped open the passenger door of the Passat, and slid in.

he lobbed a file folder her way and gave her a chill smile. “So, what’s the plan for dinner?”

Sean was in the driver’s seat, Spotting Fiona, hel

Fiona took the file and said, “Anything will do.”

With that, Sean hit the road, clueless to the black Bentley lurking behind them. In that Bentley’s back seat, Sebastian sat stewing, a check crumpled in his grip. He’d watched Fiona ditch his call and hop into another guy’s ride. His mood turned gloomy.

Evan, his chauffeur, peeped the whole scene. ‘The boss waited ages for her, tried to hand her a stack of cash, and she ignored him? Ridiculous! That’d freak anyone out. Why’s it always me getting the short end of the stick?’ Evan thought, feeling the sting.

Sebastian ordered coldly, “Follow them.”
