Chapter 11
Chapter 11
Adriane let out a silent sigh. Arthur might be ill, but he was smart and not easy to fool. That was the only thought Adriane had at that moment. It was a tricky question, and she might lose Arthur’s trust if she made one mistake.
As a reincarnated person, she knew many things had happened to Arthur during that half–year he was in a coma. He had lost his power and status.
But Arthur could still investigate the Stewarts because he had Albert helping him out. He was Albert’s favorite son, after all.
Adriane being adopted by the Stewarts because she had the same blood type as Juliette was not something very proud to boast about. The Stewarts kept that matter discrete so that even Adriane knew about it after years later in her last birth.
She had no confidence to tell Arthur about the reason she married him.
After a brief pause, she crouched in front of him and explained softly, “No one has replaced anyone. From the very beginning, my parents never told me which daughter would be your bride.”
Then Adriane fluttered her eyelashes and asked, “Do you despise me because I’m the foster daughter of the Stewarts?”
Arthur’s face was pale, but his gaze on her was sharp and still doubtful.
Moments later, he said, “No.”
Adriane let out a heavy sigh of relief. Arthur felt a little puzzled, but he spoke gently this time, “You have seen my physical condition. All the young ladies from wealthy families in Berkton city refused to marry me, but you are the only one who is willing to marry me.”
Adriane was nervous again because her fiance was too difficult to brush off. He looked determined to get an answer from her.
Lifting her head, Adriane looked at Arthur sincerely with her beautiful eyes. Then, with determination and sincerity, she said, “Because… I like you!”
Arthur squinted his eyes as he gazed into Adriane’s eyes, saying nothing.
Uneasiness stabbed her heart as she gulped nervously. Her heart was hammering, and a flush crept up her face. She continued sincerely and lovingly, “I saw you once before, and I can’t stop thinking about you… My family did want to arrange for my sister to marry you. After you were injured, I offered to take my sister’s place. My choice may seem strange to you, but it fulfilled my dream of marrying you.”
As she spoke, tears welled up in her eyes in a way that most men would not have been able to resist. She wanted to touch Arthur with sincerity.
Unfortunately, Arthur silently gazed at Adriane for a few seconds and then smiled, “Adriane Stewart, don’t treat me like a fool.”
Adriane felt as though she was struck by a bolt of lightning when Arthur said that. He was in despair.
Arthur doubted Adriane’s words. It was not very convincing when she said that she liked him so much, not to mention that he had no memory of meeting
her anywhere.
Many girls had tried to flirt with him when he was still a perfect man. They did not come to him because they liked him. All the girls were more interested in his money than him. Now, he was a useless man who could not even walk and had no authority in Jenkins family. Marrying him would only make their life miserable, and they might even end up as a widow at a young age if he died.
Adriane might be able to trick boys with that, but not Arthur. He suspected that Adriane had some other reason that she did not want to tell him.
Facing his young fiance, who remained silent when he tutored her, Arthur slowly frowned and continued, “Even if what you say is true, you have just come of age this year, am I right? Why are you thinking about a man instead of putting your focus on your studies?”
Adriane squatted with her head down and drew circles on the ground unhappily. She grumbled silently.
<< am a grown–up now, a university student. There is no need to tutor me like I’m a kid.
Do you think you’re way older than me? Last birth, I was twenty–five when I died, which means that we are of the same age.>

Chapter 11
Unfortunately, Adriane did not dare to speak her thoughts out loud in front of her cunning fiance. She insisted that she was telling the truth, “Believe it or not, that’s the reason I agree to marry you.”
Arthur almost burst out into laughter when he saw the wrong look on Adriane’s face. His gaze on her was gentle again as he said, “Little liar, let’s see how long your lie will last.”
The more he said something like that, the more stubborn Adriane got. She darted up from her squatting position and puffed her cheeks as she said, “I will prove to you that I really like… Ahh!”
Before Adriane could finish her sentence, she lost her balance because her legs were numb from squatting too long. She fell towards Arthur’s wheelchair.
Facing Adriane, who was about to fall, his first reaction was not to steer the wheelchair and retreat. Instead, he reached out his hand, trying to catch her, without thinking twice about his physical condition. He had never considered if his body could bear Adriane’s weight.
Fortunately, Adriane did not work out for so many years for nothing. She reacted quickly, clenched her teeth, and supported herself from falling by holding onto the left and right armrests of Arthur’s wheelchair with both her hands.
Adriane lost her balance and ran a few steps bringing along the wheelchair with her. But she was glad she did not fall directly on Arthur.
“Phew! That was close. Mr. Arthur, are you alright?” Adriane looked at Arthur with concern and forgot about letting go of the armrest.
Then she found that the distance between them was so close that her lips and his were only a few inches from each other because of her bending
posture.
Adriane and Arthur could feel each other’s breath. She was stunned and looked at Arthur in a daze.
Everything in space seemed to have disappeared, and she could only see Arthur. Nothing else mattered to her.
Arthur, on the other hand, was calm as ever. He did not like women to get too close to him, so he did not employ any maid or even a female secretary when he was the CEO of Jenkins Group. His secretaries and assistant were all males.
Adriane was so close to him that he could smell the sweet fragrance on her body. Her flawless features were enlarged in front of him, making him unable
to take his eyes off her.
The look of a daze on her face made her cuter than usual. She was biting on her cherry lips because she was nervous. A thought flashed through Arthur’s mind, “She is so close to me now that I can kiss her if I lift my head a little.”
Both their thoughts seemed to have collided coincidentally. Adriane could only hear her hammering heart at the moment. She was in a panic and thought shyly, “Should I act calm or dodge if Arthur kisses me?”
Unfortunately, before she could think of an answer, Arthur broke the ambiguous atmosphere with his monotonous voice, “How long are you going to remain in this position?”
Suddenly, Adriane snapped out of her embarrassing thoughts as she bounced away from the wheelchair, “Ah!”
She tugged her hair behind her ears embarrassedly and tried to hide her nervous feelings. She could feel that her body was scorching hot like she was on
fire.
It was too bad that she wore a pair of shorts and a shirt, which she could barely use to cover herself.
Because Adriane almost fell into Arthur’s arms, he quickly ended the topic, “I don’t care why you marry me, be sure to know, I don’t keep idle people, and would not tolerate betrayal.”
He did not threaten her, but she could feel her heart skip a beat. Then she answered timidly, “Understood, Mr. Arthur.”
“Take me for a walk,” Well! Arthur had just said he would not keep any idle people by his side. He meant that.
Adriane could only sigh at her fate and pushed Arthur in his wheelchair around the mansion. She even paid attention that the sun would not shine on him directly. After strolling around the mansion for a while, Adriane realized something. She thought, “I am his fiance. Why do I feel like I’m his maid now? Oh, gosh! I’ve fallen into his trap again.”
She would never admit that she almost fell for Adrian when she fell onto his wheelchair.
Arthur respectfully, “Uncle Arthur.”
When Adriane saw that it was Alexander, her gaze turned cold, and her smile faded.
