“How that you have less than 5 years to live?” Aiden asks Anna-Lynn.

He has entered the house without knocking and I am following him in the kitchen where Anna-Lynn and Collin are. Well they know we are here as he has screamed a few seconds ago.

“Keep quiet Harper is sleeping upstairs!” Anna-Lynn says.

Is she kidding me?! Five minutes ago, she was dancing, jumping and laughing not worried about the baby sleeping.

“Is this true Anna-Lynn?” Aiden asks again.

“Why do you ask?” She asks him “ Like that you can throw a party?”

“Answer me!” He says losing his patience.

“Yes, I am dying. Congratulations your prayers were answered. You can be happy now!” She says with a cold smile.

“But no I thought I had time.” He says totally shocked.

“Time for what?” She asks.

“To fix our relationship.” He tells her.

She has a short cruel laugh before saying: “What relationship? You said it yourself Beta we are nothing.”

How can she be so cold? Doesn’t she see how shaken he is by the new of her near-death?

“So what in a few years, we will have received a mail to announce your death? And we would just have to bury you?” He asks her.

“Not if my last wishes are followed. Do you will think that I didn’t plan my funeral yet?”

“But to be bury here you need to ask the Alpha's authorization.” I tell her.

Again she laughs: “ Do you really think I want to be bury in your land. I may be born here but it was never my home.”

“So you didn’t even plan to invite us to your funeral?” Says Aiden.

“As if you would have come!” She mocks him.

“Why are you dying?” He asks her.

“Not your business. As you care anyway.”

“How long did you know?” He asks her.

“Few years.”

“You’ve never planned to tell us, didn’t you?”

“Why should I have? We are just strangers.”

“You knew it and you didn’t tell me anything!” He says directing his anger toward Collin.

“It was not my secret to tell.” Collin just answers.

That true, he was supposed to tell us everything!

“You should have to tell me! I’m your Alpha.”

“I am a Gamma my first mission is to protect my Luna.” He says defensively.

“She is not your Luna. Nora is!”

“Right now, she is!” He dares tell me. “And that was not significant information.”

“Not significant information! You are joking, right.” Says Aiden even angrier.

“You are not the one who can decide which information is significant or not!” I tell Collin.

“I will find someone to monitor her as you are not able to. You can leave now.” I order him.

“Actually he is living here so leaving means going wherever he wants in the house. I don’t want anyone else to monitor me. It’s him or I’m leaving.” Anna-Lynn says.

Damn that girl as if we needed her! I thought for myself. Well, I do need her to be able to recover enough to kill Markus.

“I will post someone outside your house 24/7, as I don’t know if you didn’t leave the house on Collin’s monitoring.” I tell her.

“Does that mean you don’t trust me? Do you really think I could have let her do something dangerous for the pack!” Collin says with anger.

“I don’t know who you are anymore. You choose a baby before your own family, you broke your twin link and refuse to speak with Connor. And you’re clearly on her side.” I answer him.

“It’s not A baby, it’s MY daughter. She is my family! Harper is not a mistake that you can erase she is a human being! She needs love and acceptance. And I will do everything I have to to give her that and apparently it’s not possible here! As for Anna-Lynn, she opened her door when you didn’t. Be her friend with her doesn’t mean I’m not able to do my work properly.” He tells me and I can hear how hurt he was.

“Are you happy now?” I asked Anna-Lynn.

She just laughs, just fucking laughed. I catch her arm and add: “You’re enjoying that, destroying my life!”

Her smile drops: “ Let me go, Liam!”

I tighten my grip around her arm.

“Let her go Alpha.” Says Collin’s wolf.

“Last warning Liam, Let me go now!” She says her body screaming aggressiveness.

“We should go, Liam.” Aiden tells me putting his hand on my shoulder. I let her arm go.

“If you were not so obsessed by my return you would have seen that I am not the reason for your problems!”She says.

We leave the house without saying anything more. I don’t remember the reason why we came to see her! We don’t say anything neither in our way back in the pack’s house, both of us too upset, Aiden by the new and me by Collin’s behavior.

“Where is the accounting book? You have insisted to go by yourself and you forgot it.” Asks my dad.

That was the reason I went there. Dad forgot the accounting book and I need it for tomorrow morning. I also wanted to “thank” her as I have been scolded as I was five by my father.

“No! I forgot it too!”

“What’s happened?” He asks me when he sees our face.

“Let’s talk in my office.” He nods and follows me and Aiden.

“She is dying!” Aiden says while I closed the door.

“Are you sure?” Asks my father.

“We heard Collin said that when we were outside the house and she confirmed it.” I answer.

“Why?”

“She didn’t want to tell us.” Says Aiden.

“And Collin knew and he even took her defense against me, his own alpha!”

“They became friends that don’t mean he is not loyal to you anymore.” My dad says trying to calm me.

“I don’t think so. His wolf surfaced when I caught her arm and didn’t want to let it go. He called her his Luna. You know what it means.”

He nods: “When you took Connor and Piper's side when they announced they were expecting, he felt betrayed. The last few days I have passed with them make me realize how Collin loves his daughter. She is the only thing he has left from Piper. Tom is your son, you know what kind of love you have for your children. “

“The difference is Tom was desired. That baby was a bad surprise.”

“Imagine how you will react if Tom was the only part of Nora you had left. He would have become your world too.”

“I don’t like when you are right, old man. What should I do? What does it feel like it’s too late?”

“Let him go.” He tells me.

“I don’t want to lose him. And Connor? He will be so hurt.”

“If it’s not too late for them, Collin needs time. Your father is right. What happened with Piper was difficult to accept for him but he would have come around with time. But the fact Connor rejecting Harper was the ultimate betrayal. He needs to leave and find his own happiness. He deserves that and the only thing we can do is to support him.” Aiden says.

“And letting he knows that he will always be welcome.”

I sigh and add: “ I know but it doesn’t make it easier.”

“As for Anna-Lynn, we need to know if it’s true. “ Dad says and Aiden nods.

“Let’s call the Blue Moon Pack, maybe they could tell us more.” I say.

They both nod the worst that can happen would be them not answering.

“Welcome to the Blue Moon Pack, if you call for the beer you are not on the right phone.” Says a male voice.

“Beta Gaspard? I’m Alpha Franck for the Primus pack. Is it possible to speak with one of your Alphas, please?”

“Sure! Just wait and I will pass you, someone.”

“Alpha Franck, how can I help you?” Alpha Darius says.

“Alpha Darius, I’m with Alpha Liam and Beta Aiden. We have a question about Anna-Lynn.”

Gosh! This presentation and title is so long and boring. I have always hated that and it’s a loss of time.

“I’m not sure I will be able to answer but ask anyway.” He tells us.

Well, I’m not the only one to not like the protocol as he doesn’t follow it at all. It is really disrespectful.

“Is she dying?” asks Aiden.

“Oh, that I can answer.” He answers but he doesn’t say anything else.

Losing my patience I say: “And?”

“Yes, She is.”

“Why? Does she has a human illness?” Asks Aiden.

Alpha Darius laughs, a very short laugh.

“No, she doesn’t.”

“Then why?” Insists Aiden.

“Because of the rejection. How ironic is it, don’t you think Alpha Liam? She is not enough a wolf to be your mate but enough to die because of the rejection.”

“I am sorry but I can’t mate her.” I say.

“Believe me, she would rather die than to be mate with you.” He laughs again. With the way, he said that I’m feeling offended.

“I don’t believe you! This is why she came back. She wants me to take her as my mate.”

“Does she ask you to? I don’t think so moreover it will change nothing.”

“Why that?” Asks my father.

“Because you are not the only one who rejected her.”

“She will kill you for saying that Darius.” Interrupts Beta Gaspard.

“I know but if they feel guilty it will worth it.” Alpha Darius answers him.

“She had another mate who rejected too?” Asks Aiden.

Is that even possible?

“No Dipshit, I’m talking about you and your family.”

“But how? How can you be so sure?” Says Aiden feeling defeat.

“Because we asked the question to the Moon Goddess directly.”

“You are so dead, man.” Beta Gaspard interrupts again.

“I know but because of them, I’m losing my sister. It’s only fair they know it’s all their fault. And stop to listen to my phone call! A normal Beta would respect his Alpha Privacy. I’m sure you will tell everything to V.”

“You know I will. You know I like to see you in the dog house.” Beta Gaspard teases him as we were not here.

“I forgot to tell Bella you were checking her cousin’s ass, yesterday.”

“I didn’t! She just asked me if her ass were bigger than before?”

“And you look... And you knew the answer which means you didn’t check it only one time. We will see who will be in the dog house now!” Alpha Darius says victoriously.

Can he just stay serious for more than 5 minutes? He is an Alpha, he has to be an example all the time.

“It’s mutual destruction maybe we can find a solution.”

“In your dream! Never play smart ass with an Alpha, they are too proud and you will always lose. Do you need anything else, Alpha Liam? I have better things to do as getting rid of my Beta.”

“I never heard of a werewolf dying because of the rejection of her family. And dying because of your mate’s rejection is very rare. How can you be so sure?” Asks my father.

“Anna-Lynn is unique and not a werewolf. The Moon Goddess is calling her back on her side. And now I’m really dead so I will just hang up.”

Before he hangs up we hear he says “Evening Baby, why are you up?” and Luna Veronica answers: “Don’t baby me!”. She doesn’t seem happy, I wouldn’t like to be in his place right now.

“I’m a monster! I wanted her dead and she is dying because of me.” Says Aiden on the verge to cry.

Aiden is really shaken by what Alpha Darius said. We don’t even have time to speak before someone is knocking at my door. It’s Elena and John. She felt Aiden’s distress and

John has dedicated to coming with her as she was really worried. We tell them about Anna-Lynn’s condition. I can see Elena is shaken and sad but she tries to keep her brave face for Aiden. John doesn’t say anything and his face is impassive. It’s difficult to know what he thinks or feels about that. We all don’t know what to think about that.

I was coming back from the gym when I heard my dad and john speaking in the kitchen.

“And Tessa? How did she take the new?” I hear dad asks for someone.

“She went to the grocery shop. So pretty bad as she hates to go there. She always thought it was our punishment for going against our families' wishes. She never really forgave herself the fact Anna-Lynn doesn’t have a wolf. And we pushed her away because of our guilt. Now we just have to face that we will lose our daughter soon. Even if we aren’t her family any more, she is still our pup. She will never forgive us and it’s all our fault. To know our time with her is counted changes everything. “ answers John.

“I know she will forgive you but she will never see you as her family ever. You should have seen her in the Blue Moon Pack, another person literally. Here she is always alert and she is restraining herself and she always has in fact. There she was carefree and smiling all the time. With Alpha Darius, they were teasing each other like brother and sister. She has complicity with them that she never had with- I’m sorry I shouldn’t have said that.”

Thanks, goddess, Aiden is not here to hear that.

“Don’t be, it’s painful to hear but it’s only the truth. How is she? You are the one who spends more time with her since she came back.” Asks John.

“She is smart. When I need 5minutes to understand something she only needs seconds. She is patient and let me come to my own conclusions. When we disagree she stays calm and defends her position with strong arguments. That bothers me a lot because of she often right and as an old Alpha I don’t like to be wrong.” Dad says and John laughs.

“She is a great kid, you know.” He adds.

John sighs: “I don’t think it’s because of me. Did she would have been good Luna?”

“She would. To tell you the truth she would be a great Alpha. Liam would have his hands full with her if he had chosen her. She is dominant as much as Nora is submissive. Sometimes she makes me feel so useless that I feel emasculated.” Dad laughs.

“Don’t say that ever again! It was more simple when we were young. Now women are taking the power and we need to be careful before they realized we are nothing without them.” Jokes John.

“I know. Not easy to be a man nowadays. Yesterday we did the accounting. It was such a mess that I was ready to give up but she didn’t. She was able to organize and check every bill. She even found an old bill from last year on the carpet. She thinks someone else should do the accounting as Liam doesn’t like it. She proposed Nora and I think it’s a good idea. I will ask her if she can do it.”

I didn’t know that... Not a bad idea at all it would be great if I could avoid dealing with that shit. It’s time to make my presence known.

“Hey Dad, Hey John. You are not working with Anna-Lynn?”

“She kicked me out.”

“What?! Why?”

“I was pissing her off with the way I was looking at her. Something about hated pity.”

“And you just left?”

“You didn’t see her, you would have left too? She can be scary when she wants.” He shrugs.

The news of her near-death is affected more people than I though. I’m feeling sorry for her because it’s not fair and she doesn’t deserve that but there is nothing we can do.
