“Hey Aiden, how is he?” I ask him when I’m seeing sitting outside his son's hospital’s room. He looks like he took ten more years on the last day.

“Hey Liam, he is sleeping. He broke his two legs and dislocated his shoulder. I can’t believe he jump from the fourth floor! This is so insane. What was in his mind!” I see worry and anger pass in his eyes.

“I know! At least he is safe now. How long before he has fully recovered?”

“5 days.”

“ At least his wolf has awakened.”

“Not really. Anna-Lynn makes his wolf surfaced. He even took over Kaiden.”

“Really?” I can’t hide my surprise.

“Yeah, let me show you.”

As he shares with me his memory, I can’t believe what I see. You may ask where I was when it arrived. Well, I was on a surprise date with Nora in the town next door. We both needed it.

“Wow.” I don’t know what else to say.

“Yeah, thank goddess she was close. She was walking with Collin. Harper has trouble to sleep apparently. They were walking to help her.” He takes a pause. “Do you think it was what she was talking about when she told us about her bad feelings.”

“Probably, with her empathy gift, she can sense this kind of thing.”

“By the way, Nora passed earlier but when Elena has mentioned Anna-Lynn. She paled and refused to hear what’s happened. Is she fine?” He said though our mind-linked, not wanted people to hear that.

“You know how Anna-Lynn believes that Markus can see though Nora’s mind.” He nods. “ Well, I forgot to tell you she asked Melinda to cast a spell on Nora because she doesn’t want Markus to know what she is doing. It’s a repulsive spell so every time Nora sees her or hears her name she feels sick and doesn’t want to know more.”

“What the fuck! Well, I have seen it and it’s working really well. She left before to know that Kaiden will be okay.”

“Sorry about that.”

“Don’t be. It’s Anna-Lynn’s fault. Wow, unbelievable!” He says shaking his head.

“How did she do to reach Kaiden’s wolf when we both were not able?”

“I don’t know but thank goddess she succeeded! I still can’t believe he jumped.” He shakes his head.

“Yeah me neither. Tom told me he tried to stop him but it was too late.”

“Do you think it’s my fault that his wolf was locked in?” His eyes are full of guilt.

“No who makes you think that. Let me guess, Anna-Lynn again!”

“I should have to share all the memory with you. She told me that my fear to have a child-like her had blocked Kaiden’s wolf. And she is right I’m so fucking afraid of that possibility. He could have died because of me.”

His eyes are full of unleashed tears. I know there is nothing that I can say to make him feel better.

“He is fine that the matter.”

“Yes, and his wolf took full control in Anna-Lynn’s demand. I didn’t even know a wolf can have full control so young.”

“In an extreme situation, it’s happened and it was one.”

“Yeah. How can his wolf recognized her as his Luna when she isn’t even a she-wolf.”

“That I don’t know. We need to know more about her.”

“How did Elena found her information?”

“She met one of Anna-Lynn’s teacher.”

“Maybe I should me him too.”



“Then I will come with you. She is my... sister after all. I need to know more about her.” He has hesitated before calling her his sister.

“By the way what are you doing outside the room?” I ask out loud this time.

“ I don’t know if I can come in. I feel so guilty it’s eating me, man.”He sighs and adds:” And Elena was mad at me before so I can only imagine how pissed she is now.”

“He is your son. He needs you.”

“He is right you know. It’s not about us, right now he is our priority.” Says Elena opening the doors.

“Don’t be, just prove me it. He is sleeping now but you should stay with him tonight. I need to go home with Julia and I don’t want him to be alone.”

“Elena, I just went to kiss my godson and I will let them rest.”

She nods and leaves. Aiden and I enter the room where Kaiden is sleeping his two legs in a cast, poor like boy. What was he thinking? I kiss is head.

“ Can I come back tomorrow with Tom?”

“Normally he is leaving tomorrow morning. You can pass when we will be home? It will be more simple. For sure Kaiden will be happy to see Tom. The next 5 days will be long as he has to stay at bed.”

“Yeah, it will be easier to wait for him to come home. As for Anna-Lynn’s teacher, we will go when you can.”

When I come home I going to Tom’s room. He is in a deep sleep. I kissed him in his forehead and smell his hair, my little man! Nora is in the leaving room drinking herbal tea.

“Hey, my love. How is Kaiden?”

“Hey baby, He will be fine. He is coming home tomorrow. We will go see him with Tom, in the afternoon. In 5 days, he should be fully healed.”

“Tom told me he jumped because he wanted to see if he has a wolf. He even told him that he would prefer to die than to not have a wolf. He is so young to have this kind of dark thoughts.”

I shake my head: “I know... The good news is now his wolf has awakened. Aiden is feeling so guilty. He thinks it’s his own fear to have a kid without a wolf that it’s pushed Kaiden to block his own wolf. I don’t know what to do or what to say to help him.”

“Give him time and be there for him. It will be enough. We can’t change the past so he needs to focus in the future. Soon he will be able to pass that.”

“ You look better for the last few days. Can you contact your wolf?”


“I am better but not yet. I’m feeling him stronger through. Soon I will be able to speak with him. Goddess I can’t wait to shift again. I miss running with you.”

“Yeah me too. My wolf wants us to play with you again.”

“ Yeah, right now I even miss that.” I laugh.

“Come on, deep down you love it.”

“Of course my love. I just don’t like my Beta and Gammas making jokes and teasing me about that. I’m still the big bad Alpha.”

“That you are my love. My big bad Alpha!” She laughs. “You want me to show you how big and bad am I?”

“Yes, please. Let’s go to our room. No surprise visitor this time!” She says taking my hands and guiding me toward our room.



True, last time we were making out on the same sofa when Tom came to ask what we were doing. We take as an excuse that we were playing which was not a good idea as he asked us if he could play with us.

Kaiden is home now. We went with Tom to see him early in the afternoon. They reminded me how we were Aiden and me at the same age. We were like them: joined at the hip! This is a great thing in a Pack to have a strong relationship between the Alpha and the Beta. It’s strengthened the pack.

While Tom is at the swimming pool (I know again) with Nora, Aiden and I are going to meet Mrs. Ivery, Anna-Lynn’s former teacher. As I can’t shift, I am driving.

“Good thing we took the car. I don’t know how we could have explained the mud and the wet clothes to that lady.” Aiden says when it starts to rain.

“ Yeah ...Gosh, I will give anything to have wet clothes and muddy paws right now.” I say feeling nostalgic suddenly.

“ Sorry man, I forget you can’t shift for now. How do you do to not lose your sanity.”

“I don’t know. It’s so difficult and frustrating! But Nora and Tom are helping a lot. Gosh, I hate feeling weak.”

“I know but soon you will have fully recovered. And all of this will only be a bad memory.”

“I hope so.”

We don’t say more during the trip, both of us deep in our thoughts. We both don’t know what to expect from that meeting. Hopefully few answers. The house is small but lovely. Hopefully, she is here maybe with we should have called before to come. I hate going somewhere for nothing. My time is precious as an Alpha I don’t have a lot of personal time so I don’t like losing it when I could be with my family. Tom is already growing so fast. He is already 6 and for me, it was born yesterday. It’s will be nice if we have a girl next. A mini Nora, she will be my little princess. Tom will even help me to scare away all the boys who dare approach her. A little Nora... That makes me smile.

“ So...Are we going or do we stay in the car?” Asks Aiden.

“ Of course we are going. What are we waiting for?”

“I don’t know maybe for you to find your way through your thoughts and to start to move. You were so deep in thoughts that you didn’t realize I went out and back in the car.” He says with a teasing smile.” Stop dreaming princess!” He laughs.

“Why are we friends already?”

“First we are a family no friends, secondly your life will be boring without me and third we are working together which means we pass a lot of time together so better to be friends.”

“A few times I asked me if it will be more simple to keep this relationship just professional.” I say shaking my head, trying hard to not smile.

“You just broke my heart!” He says within hands on his chest.

“Let’s go, Drama queen before you start to cry.” I say going out of the car and walking toward the house.

Few minutes after we rang the bell. A petite woman opens the doors. She is younger than I was expecting 40 years old maximum.

“Good afternoon Mrs. Ivery, Sorry to arrive unannounced. Do you have time for us? We would like to speak about one of your former students.” I tell her but she cuts me before I can’t introduce myself.

“ You are here for Anna-Lynn.”

“How do you know?” Asks Aiden.

“Because you are Aiden, Anna-Lynn’s big brother. She used to speak a lot about you. She was so proud of you... At least the first few years I have known her. As for you, I’m sorry but I have no idea who you are.”

“I am Liam, a family’s close friend.”

“We don’t really grow together with Anna-Lynn. I just wish to know more about her.”

“I met your wife last week. You are a lucky man.”

“I know.” He says with a shiny smile and his eyes full of love.

I can help myself but roll my eyes. He is so whipped!

“Roll your eyes all you want you are as whipped as I am. Oh, Nora, I love when you bite my ears. You make me so hard!” He says through my head.

“Please come in. I will make some coffee.” Says Mrs. Ivery.

As she turns her back and starts walking in the house and Aiden is following her so I slap him in the back of his head.

“Ouch!”

“You deserve it!”

“You can seat here, please. Do you want some coffee?”

“For me, please. Liam can’t if you have a herbal tea for him it would be great. Thank you”

“Revenge is a dish best served cold. And it’s not good for your health now.”

“This is torture. Please don’t enjoy it too much.”

We spent more than an hour with Mrs. Ivery talking about Anna-Lynn. She is a prodigy. Everything she tried she succeeded. She finished her master's degrees in Medicine and veterinary before she was 15 and she was able to graduate in-laws in a year. She used to live here when she was in school and she kept visiting often until she left when she was 16.

Mrs. Ivery took a lot of pictures and videos of Anna-Lynn. In the videos, she is not the one we used to know. She is not shy at all. At the same age, I was not as mature as she was. I thought I knew who she was and I just realized now that in fact I never knew her. Aiden realized it too. I can see it on his face.

“Why did she leave when she was 16?” Asks Aiden.

“I don’t know. I think she realized she had lost too much time waiting for you. I mean you and your parents. She never mentioned a Liam so I have no idea who you are for her, sorry. Even if she had accepted the fact that you will never come for her when she was 10. I think a part of her had still hope. She wanted to start her life. Before she left she told me as she had finished her studies it was time to be just a normal teenager and to make all the mistakes she wanted. And that she did.” She says smiling to the good memory.

“How do you know she did?” I ask her.

“She has a blog where she shared her journey.” She answers.

“Can you give the name of the blog, please?” Asks Aiden.

“It’s a private one. She has to give you access. If you don’t have one that means she doesn’t want you to see it, sorry.”

“Oh.” It’s the only thing he answers.

“ Thank you for your time, Mrs. Ivery. It was very useful.”

“You are welcome, Liam. I don’t know if I should call you that through, you look like a high-rank werewolf.”

“How do you know? Did Anna-Lynn tell you?”

“No. My sister is mated with one of yours. He shifted by accident in front of all my family one time. It was a shock for everyone except my sister, of course. Even if she tried to act like she was surprised.” She laughs. “I knew Anna-Lynn was not a simple human. I was not sure when I met Elena that she was one of you but I have no doubt with you two. ”

“She is not a werewolf.” I say.

“But you are and she is your sister?” She says looking at Aiden.

“Well, she doesn’t have the gene.” Aiden answers.

On our way back to the pack, we stop in a creepy bar. Aiden needs a break before coming back. We are sitting in a booth apart and both have a glass of whiskey in front of us.

“I am not sure it’s good for you.”

“ The doctor didn’t say anything about alcohol.”

“In the same, you never drink so maybe he didn’t think about that.”

“Maybe.”

Again he is getting lost in his own thoughts.

“Yeah, what do you think about?” I finish to ask him.

“Anna-Lynn is right. I don’t know her and I never did.”

“It’s not your fault.”

“Are you sure about that. The Beta training was taking a lot of my time but I was her brother. And I have never cared about her.”

“It’s not true, I remembered you asking about her a lot while we were training.”

“ Yes, when we were what? 8? I forgot her pretty easily after that.”

“We were just kids. Don’t be too hard with yourself. We just did as our parents did.”

“Maybe, but I should have done more. Now my only sister is a stranger. I don’t know if she has good or bad intentions. And I have a Nephew that I only know his name and his age. My children will never know their cousin. The worst is I never knew mine and I missed them. They will miss them too and ironically it’s my fault when I swear to myself I will not do the same mistake my parents did.”

“ I understand.”

“Really?” He asks skeptically.

“You know my kids neither will know their cousins because My parents and I refused to accept my brother’s mate. I was not the best brother neither.”

“At least you know who he is.”

“Are you sure about that? I never knew he was close to Anna-Lynn and that he has no problems with the fact his mate is not a werewolf.”

“A pack is a big family how can I do a good job when I’m not able to know my own sister.”

“That works for me too you know.”

“But you are a good Alpha.”

“And you a good Beta.”

“We need to be better through.”

“To be better!” I say raising my glass before drinking it.

Aiden drinks his glass too and we leave. It’s time to go home anyway.
