Chapter 82
Chapter 82
The ward was enveloped in a serene silence, and Hazel had succumbed to sleep on the comfortable sofa. The only audible
presence in the room was the gentle hum of the air conditioning unit, creating a rhythmic ambiance.
Amidst this peaceful stillness, her phone broke the quietude with a sudden ring, its sound slicing through the room. Hazel stirred
on the sofa, eyes still closed, as she fumbled blindly to locate her phone. Finally seizing it, she answered the call.
“Hello,” she murmured, her voice still heavy with sleep. It was just past five in the morning, and the world outside was still
wrapped in the calmness of dawn
Hazel recognized Chloe’s soft voice as it permeated through the phone, cutting through the stillness of the early morning.
“Did I wake you?” Chloe inquired, her tone carrying a subtle tension and genuine concern.
“No, it’s fine. Did something happen?” Hazel responded, her senses gradually awakening to the urgency in Chloe’s voice.
“I’m really sorry; I shouldn’t be calling but something happened with our project,” Chloe explained her words carrying anxiety.
The gravity of the situation seemed to seep through the phone, leaving Hazel anxious for more details.
Chloe’s voice trembled slightly as she continued, “I just got a call from the project supervisor, the first floor of the building, our
designs there fell through.”
Hazel’s eyes widened, the sleep fully dissipating from her as she sat up. “We worked on that floor just yesterday,” she remarked,
a hint of disbelief in her voice. The sudden turn of events was unsettling.
“What exactly happened?” Hazel questioned, her mind racing to grasp the cause of the situation.
“I don’t know,” Chloe admitted with a heavy sigh. “The security of the building called just now.”
What’s the extent of the damage?” Hazel inquired, her mind already

racing through potential scenarios.
“Did he tell you?” she probed, seeking more details to piece together the
situation.
“I don’t know,” Chloe admitted with a sigh, frustration evident in her
voice.
“We’re going to have to check it out today,” she stated firmly. “That’s why I’m calling right now,” Chloe explained, the urgency of
the matter reflected in her tone.
Hazel nodded in understanding. She was already wide awake and walked across the room.
“Would you be able to come to work?” Chloe asked hopefully.
Hazel hovered over her kids. She touched Liam’s face. He stirred and tossed, then opened his eyes slightly. She breathed a sigh
of relief. Liam was fine now, completely out of danger and conscious, just asleep. The chaos of the previous night seemed to be
settling, but the new challenge at work demanded her immediate attention.
Ethan had suggested that she take the day off, but Hazel felt it wasn’t necessary. With Liam staying home from school, he and
Daisy could spend the day together.
Despite Chloe’s evident devastation, she subtly conveyed the importance of Hazel’s presence without imposing undue pressure.
As the head of the project, Hazel recognized her professional responsibilities and knew she had to balance her roles effectively.
“Yes. I’ll come,” Hazel responded without hesitation.
“Oh, thank God,” Chloe exclaimed, her relief palpable in her voice. Hazel chuckled, understanding the weight of the situation,
“I really didn’t know what I would have done. See you in a few hours then,” Chloe said before hanging up. Hazel stretched,
preparing herself for the day ahead.
“Mommy?” Liam called, sitting up. Hazel smiled.
“Yes, Bear?” she answered, sitting on his bed and stroking his small, round face.
Are you okay?” she asked, concern etched in her eyes. He nodded,

rubbing his eyes.
She sighed, “You really scared me last night.”
“You had an allergy reaction, from the drinks you took,” Hazel explained
gently. “But you’re okay now.” She smiled, red to see him well.
“I’m sorry, Mama,” Liam apologized, his eyes filled with sincerity.
“It’s not your fault, sweetheart. You didn’t do anything wrong,” Hazel reassured him, pulling him into a comforting hug.
“I wasn’t careful enough. I made Mommy worried,” he added, his small face showing a hint of sadness.
Hazel continued to embrace him, softly k*ssing the top of his head. “No, baby, it’s not your fault. Mommy knows you’re a good
boy.”
Liam snuggled into her embrace, then looked up with a thoughtful expression. “You didn’t yell at her, did you?” he asked, a slight
frown creasing his forehead.
“At the teacher?” Hazel clarified. He nodded, his expression serious.
Waking up, Liam was worried about the teacher who had given him the soy drink, not wanting his mom to be upset with his
favorite teacher.
“Mommy, you’re quite scary sometimes,” he expressed his concern.
Hazel smiled gently, “Honestly, I did raise my voice a little. But it was just because I was worried about you. She apologized, and
she was deeply sorry. I know she’s your favorite, Liam. She was also concerned and promised to be more careful next time.”
Liam nodded, feeling reassured that his favorite teacher didn’t receive a serious scolding from his mom.
Liam, I’ve got to go to work today. You won’t go to school, so you and Daisy get to stay together,” she explained.
“Really?” He asked, his eyes lighting up with excitement.
“Yes. It would be best if you don’t go to school today, so the doctors can check on you properly,” she elaborated.
“Yay! Daisy and I can play,” he cheered, his enthusiasm contagious.
Hazel laughed, “Sure, why not?”

He ran to Daisy’s bed, bursting with excitement and eager to share the
news.
“Daisy, wake up! I don’t go to school today,” he joyfully announced.
The little girl turned, rubbing her eyes and sitting up. Her small face was covered with her large curls. She smiled brightly at her
brother.
“Liam, come close,” Daisy called.
Liam sat on her bed, eagerly awaiting what Daisy had to say. Daisy glanced at her mom, whose back was turned to them. Hazel
was putting the ward in order a bit before she set out.
Daisy leaned over to whisper something into her twin brother’s ears. Liam’s eyes lit up immediately as he absorbed the secret
information from his sister.
Hazel turned to meet her two kids, whispering things to themselves and visibly excited. She laughed but decided not to probe
them; they were no doubt planning how their day would go. Still, she was a little curious about what exactly they were whispering
about.
Leaving the room, Hazel stepped out into the hospital corridor to talk to
some nurses.
“Really?” Liam asked the moment Hazel was gone his eyes widening with excitement.
“Mr. Princess really comes every day?” He asked.
“Yes.” Daisy nodded happily.
“He visits and he plays with me.” She asserted.
Just then, their mother walked in.
“But let’s keep it a secret.” She said, holding her small finger over her l*ps in a sealing gesture.
Liam nodded eagerly.
“It’s gonna be our little secret.” He giggled.
Hazel stood for some time, observing her kids and their secret conversation.
“What’s got them smiling like that?” She wondered.
Although intrigued by the mystery of their whispered exchange, Hazel
decided not to press further. The sparkle in their eyes and the shared joy between the siblings made her heart swell with love.
Smiling to herself, she left the room with a mix of curiosity and contentment, ready to face the day’s demands.
