POV

I ran as fast as my legs could carry me, I didn't want to use the vampire speed because it reminded me of Chloe.

It was hard trying to keep my worries at bay and not think of negative things. I was trying to convince myself that Chloe was only clearing her head and would return home to me soon. The doors to their apartment were open and I burst through them without a second thought.

It was raining and these two were busy devouring themselves without a care in the world, the sound of their moans filling the air.

Titus is beside me looking all flustered and I cracked my throat to announce our presence.

They still as Mark climbs off Lily and covers her up while he progresses to wear his boxers, we turn our backs to them and allow them to do their thing.

"Alpha Marcus!" Lily's voice pierced through the night and she jabbed my chest. I make no move and accept all her insults, I deserve them and she was just defending her friend and I totally get it.

"You're so unbelievable Marcus! How could you, how could you hurt someone you claim to love like that? You had a mate and you even have a child! Did you see how broken Chloe was?" She asked, she was crying already and Titus was glaring daggers at me.

Beads of sweat gathered my forehead as something between a sob and a growl escaped my lips.

"It's complicated Lily! You won't understand"

"Complicated? Oh please try me, I've a degree in understanding complicated things. Truthfully Marcus, I don't care how you feel, my only concern is my best friend, I just want her to be okay. I doubt she'd ever forgive you!" "Don't say that! Chloe loves me, she always forgives me. She's just angry now, she'd come around." I stammered as I stumbled back plopping on the chair as my legs suddenly became too heavy to carry my weight.

"If tables should turn and Chloe was the one embarrassing you in this manner, would you forgive her?" Lily asked and I remained quiet, my mind making up scenarios for me as I avoided her intense gaze.

I imagined Chloe fucking another man and doing things she would naturally do to me and my heart started making thumping sounds in my ears that I could barely hear anything.

An intense jealousy fills me that I wanted to rip out the heart of every man I come across, even if I knew I was just being paranoid for no reason, but it didn't lessen the irritation I felt.

Thinking about it made my skin crawl.

"Now you know how exactly Chloe feels when a man who is supposed to be her present and future is still in the past and memories of other women."

The weight of her words sends a dull ache through my chest and it seems as if I was slowly losing my breath. My eyes linger on the floor for a while before I finally raise it up.

"I love Chloe, you know this. I cannot start describing or explaining the depth of my love for that woman, she's my everything. Lizzie is in my past, I've not crossed paths with her for more than three hundred years, she just popped out of the blues and I never knew she had a child till today."

"But that child connects you both! What if she wants you both to co-parent, how would you handle that? Do you want Chloe to feel rejected? Chloe has been through so much and seeing her so broken today broke the deepest part of me!" "It was a mistake!"

"Some mistakes are irreparable, they leave scars that take a lifetime to heal, I understand that you're sorry but apology doesn't mend every broken heart, it just breaks it further."

"Lily, I understand how Chloe feels, I am ashamed of myself trust me, but this is something way beyond my control. I was at a point in my life where I needed to ascend the throne and I really needed to have a Luna by my side, since Lizzie was my girlfriend at that time, she suggested that she becomes my Luna pending the time we both find our mates. I've never done anything without Chloe's interest at heart, you all know this."

"It's obvious you want something from me Alpha Marcus, what do you want?"

"I want you to help me talk to her... She listens to you Lily. You're the only person I can literally think of right now, you should see the way she looks at me with venom in her eyes, like I am the most horrible person in the world..." I said as my face dropped, I fought the urge not to growl out in pain.

"I'd do the same if I were in her shoes though." Lily muttered under her breath.

When she discovered we were all staring at her, she sighed and lifted her hands in surrender.

"Fine! I get it, you want me to talk to Chloe and get her to forgive you, I can only try Marcus. I can't assure you a hundred percent that Chloe would, she could even make an enemy out of me because of this and that's the last thing I wanted to happen. I've lost my best friend once because of my stupidity and I don't want a repeat."

"You just have to try Lily, I've run out of options at this point. I've never been so confused in my life, my marriage and the fate of the pack lies solely on your shoulders Lily please." She rolled her eyes and proceeded to sit near her mate and pretended to think for a while before facing me directly.

"I can't disobey my Alpha, I'll come to the palace this evening, I just want her to have a moment for now..."

"There's a problem Lily." I said, holding my head in pain, her brows raised as she scrutinized me before jumping on her feet, for a pregnant woman she had so much strength.

"What's the problem, Alpha Marcus?"

"Chloe is missing and she masked our bond."
