Chapter 58
ELEANOR
I woke up that morning in a daze. A tornado was spinning inside my head, urging me to rush to the pile of rubble and puke.
Wiping my mouth with the back of my hand, I groaned at the thick strands of hair soaked with my own puke and falling on my face.
Sweeping a hand across my face to get rid of the strands of hair blocking my vision, I notice I've shifted back into my human form. I look down on my fully naked body, frowning. Most parts of me were covered with so much dirt and fallen leaves, but another thing I noticed was my missing wounds.
My eyes widen in realization while I inspect my body for scars.
"Impossible..." I mutter, jumping to my feet completely forgetting I was squeezed inside a small cave.
"Ow!" As a result, my head crashed painfully with the roof. I grunted, lowering my body down while caressing my head gently beneath my palm.
My wounds were already gone? I normally wouldn't heal this fast especially with wounds as severe as the last. I remember they were very deep cuts, or was I wrong?
My attention turns to my stomach churning, demanding for supply of food.
The sharp sound of thunder rumbling then brought my eyes outside the cave. It was early morning yet the rain was pouring heavily; a storm was brewing.
There was a large puddle of water formed not far from the cave, splashing directly to my face making me groan.
Soon, my naked body started shuddering amidst the cold. Wrapping my hands around my arms, I feel my teeth chattering as I hugged my knees to my chest.
I might just turn into ice if I don't do something. And fast.
Rummaging through my bag, I pulled out the brown fur blanket and some matches for lighting a fire. My mouth went agape when I finished pulling all of the fur blanket out of the bag. I quickly wrap it around myself and I fit in perfectly. I had a small body that could fit in anything as long as it's bigger than my petite frame.
My body shivers making me bury my nose into the soft fur. It was huge. Like really huge. Its fur feels soft and thick as I run my fingers across it. I wonder if it's a bear?
Must be. Couldn't be a wolf's fur, right? I shake my head at the thought. After all, what werewolf's crazy enough to skin a creature of the same kind?
I must be imagining silly things again. Well, my days ahead of me would be spent all by myself. Alone.
'You're not alone’ Ares reminded.
I giggled lightly and nodded, as if my wolf was actually sitting there across from me.
'You're right. It's you and me against the world, huh?" I reply, curving my lips into a small smile.
As I reached for the box of matches on the ground, the gushing wind blew strongly through my pinkish red hair. I duck my head under my fur blanket in a bid to block the freezing cold.
Fire.
I need fire.
I look around the cave, using my wolf's eyes to see in the dark. Unfortunately, there was nothing but a bunch of rocks and pebbles scattered on the ground.
I sighed, peering at the world outside my safe space.
The rain is too strong. Lightning cracks flashed in the sky followed by the loud rumbling sound of thunder coming from miles away.
I snuggled closer to my fur blanket and curled myself into a ball before laying back down on the cold, hard ground.
Closing my eyes, I try to take a short nap while waiting for the storm to calm down.
I don't know how long I've laid there. In this condition, there is no way I could tell the time. Closing my eyes for a few moments more, I hugged my chest and knees, almost letting my knees touch my forehead.
Slowly, my body seemed to stop shuddering from the cold.
It's quiet.
Prying my eyes slightly open, I saw a streak of light flash before my eyes. I squeezed my eyes and blinked several times.
My thick fur blanket fell on my lower back and rays of sunlight immediately touched my skin.
The storm had gone by, it seems.
I then shifted into my wolf, heading out to grab some firewood.
“What about food?" Ares grumbled. I roll my eyes at her bossiness but I can't help but agree with her at the same time. We haven't eaten anything at all since yesterday morning, ever since Devin and that bastard Louie took me away to the Alliance. And again when Alex made me lose all appetite after discovering we were truly fated mates.
Suddenly, an incessant, ear-splitting sound of thunder struck from the sky again, resounding through the wild forest and making my eyes widen in surprise as I look alertly up at the brightly-lit sky. The earth grumbled beneath my paws so fiercely as though an earthquake was about to slit the ground in half.
What the hell was that?
“Uh, hello? That's our stomach!"
I groan at the realization and almost feel embarrassed if someone had heard it from somewhere afar.
“Alright, we'll look for something’
Ares squeals in excitement knowing this would be her very first hunt.
I smile inwardly, relieved I can finally let my wolf out in the wilderness.
No walls, no rules, no judgement.
Just... plain and innocently free.
Out of the corner of my eye, I saw something move under the tall pine tree that stood not too far from me.
Gradually, I slowed down my pace and ducked in a bid to hide my head in the grass.
My heart almost skipped a beat when I saw a big, brown rabbit stopping to look at its surroundings. I ducked even lower, bracing myself as I waited for my prey to turn around
It was about to hop into a small hole but I pounced at it as fast as I could. Sinking my teeth in its juicy neck before hearing its bones snap between my sharp canines, chattering in extreme hunger I couldn't deny much longer.
'We caught it!" Ares wanted to jump in glee and I giggled inwardly at her first genuine reaction to her first hunt.
'Yup, we sure did"
I say before gently placing the rabbit down on the flat rock.
I licked my canines then ravaged it whole.
I was enjoying my delicious food when my ears suddenly perked up. I stopped eating.
Wait a minute.
How could I have not noticed this before?
The air smelt familiar, and by the shape and height of the trees, I gasped inwardly when I realize where I am.
I wandered too close to my old pack’s territory!
My head snapped up at the sound of panting, growling wolves approaching from a close distance. Adrenaline coursing through my veins as I skipped back and turned around towards the opposite direction.
My heartbeat increased its speed a million times faster whilst my brain was telling me to do only one important thing.
“RUN!’ The voice roared inside me before I could even comprehend what it was trying to say.
Ares whimpered, highly aware of the danger advancing towards us.
I staggered forward and just when I was about to jump off and run, I was stopped by the sound of a man’s threatening voice.
“Well, well, well. Look what we have here,”
All of a sudden, I found myself trapped in the middle of six angry werewolves. Their scents reeking of pure, intense lust evident in their pitch black eyes.
“A blood wolf,” he snarled.
“ELEANOR, RUN!!!"
