Chapter Fifty–Four: The Countdown Begins 2.0
Eve of Kiara’s eighteenth birthday
Kiara POV:
The cool interior of the pub was a welcome contrast to the scorching summer heat outside. The place was packed, the air filled with the hum of laughter, chatter and the rhythm of the music pulsating from the speakers. I guided my friends towards an empty table near the bar, all the while trying to suppress the anxious knot forming in my stomach.
I took out my phone, and quickly dialling Aiden’s number. He picked up on the third ring, his voice calm and composed.
“Hey, Kiki. What’s up?” He said
“Hey, Aiden. We’re at the pub. Would you like to join us?” I asked, trying to keep my voice casual.
There was a pause before he responded,
“Sure. I’ll be there in a bit.“.
The moment I ended the call, I felt a strange tension fill the air. JJ and Rex shared a glance, their faces taut with a grim expressions. I sighed, deciding to let it be. There was no point in arguing further.
Aiden arrived a few moments later, his usual confident smile lighting up his face. The tension was almost palpable as he approached our table. Rex and JJ didn’t bother to hide their disapproval, their faces hard as stone. Aiden, however, simply ignored them, focusing his attention solely on me.
Throughout the evening, Aiden kept to himself, occasionally engaging in conversation with me while JJ and Rex maintained their cold demeanour. It was a bit awkward, but I tried my best to smooth things over, telling Aiden to ignore them and enjoy the evening.
Yet, despite my efforts, Aiden didn’t try to approach them, saying he had tried enough and he was done being the bigger person. It stung a bit hearing him say that, but I couldn’t blame him. I knew my friends were being overly judgmental.
The evening progressed with music and dancing. Soon, most of my friends were out on the dance floor, leaving Aiden and me alone at the bar. I was nursing my drink when Aiden turned towards me, his expression serious.
“Kiki,” he began, his voice low, shoulders tense, “There’s something I’ve been wanting to tell you,” he said.

He hesitated, taking a deep breath before continuing,
“I…I love you. I’ve loved you for a long time now, and I’ve been hoping that maybe, just maybe, you might feel the same way.”
To say I was shocked would be an understatement. Not in a hundred years did I expect that to be what he wanted to tell me. I had never picked up on any feelings. Where are there signs? Was I so lost in Kayden and Jayden that I didn’t realize what was happening around me? I was speechless, my mind racing. I had never seen this coming. Before I could try to formulate a sentence, he spoke again.
“And I know it might be selfish,” he continued, “but I hope that I’m the one who’s your mate. I can’t imagine my life without you.”
As he said this, he moved closer, his gaze intense. I could feel his breath on my face, and suddenly everything felt too close, too intense.
“Aiden…” I began, struggling to find the right words.
But before I could say anything else, he leaned in, his lips nearing mine. The world seemed to stop, the music fading into the background as I stared at him, my heart pounding in my chest.
No! This wasn’t right. He was a friend. I had never seen him more than that. JJ and Rex were right, as annoying as that were to admit, but they were right.

Just as Aiden’s lips were about to touch mine, two strong arms. appeared out of nowhere, forcefully shoving him away from me.
“Aiden!” I gasped, my heart racing as I looked up to see JJ and Rex standing protectively in front of me, their faces hard and angry.
“How dare you!” JJ growled, his fists clenched tight.
Aiden staggered back, his expression turning from shock to anger.
“I don’t see your names tattooed on her,” Aiden retorted, dusting himself off.
That was all it took. The next moment was a whirlwind of fists and curses as Rex and JJ lunged at Aiden, and the pub descended into
chaos.
The three of them were a whirl of motion, JJ and Rex landing punch. after punch on Aiden. But Aiden was no pushover. He fought back with equal force, his own fists connecting with their faces and stomachs.
“Stop it!” I screamed over the noise of the brawl and the terrified gasps.
of the onlookers.
But my plea fell on deaf ears. The fight only grew more vicious; furniture was knocked over, glasses were shattered, and the bar was in total disarray.

“Kiara isn’t yours!” Aiden roared, blocking a punch from Rex.
“And how would you know?!” JJ shot back, his punch connecting with Aiden’s jaw
Just as I was about to jump in to stop the fight, two strong figures appeared Beta Tim and Gamma Chris. With a stern, authoritative. presence, they managed to separate the trio.
“Enough!” Beta Tim ordered, his voice booming over the noise.
His gaze was severe as he turned to Aiden.
“Aiden, you will go to your chambers now. The Kings will deal with. you later.” Said Gamma Chris
Gamma Chris beckoned two Royal guards, who promptly escorted a fuming Aiden out of the pub, his parting words sending a shiver down. my spine.
“No one can keep me away from Kiara!” Roared Aiden as he struggled under their hold.
Tears ran down my cheeks. What the hell had happened? How did it happen? Cathy and Riley huddled near me, encasing me in their arms. Where were Kayden and Jayden? And just like that, the countdown to my eighteenth birthday had turned into a chaotic, uncertain nightmare. I was left in the middle of the wrecked pub, my mind reeling from the recent turn of events and a sinking feeling that things were about to get
much more complicated.
