Chapter 152
Chapter 152.
He had also turned eighteen last year and had yet to find his mate. For a few seconds, I thought maybe I was his mate, even though there was no attraction, no sexual pull, just platonic friendship, but I gave it the benefit of the doubt. It wasn’t until he told Cathy and Riley that I wasn’t his mate that those two were teasing him about me. I should’ve been sad or upset: mating with Rex meant I could go back to the castle and be close to his brothers. But that sounded so wrong, not to mention attraction towards Rex in that way had my hackles rising. Rex was amazing, but brother, best friend type amazing. I was broken out of my thoughts when I heard King Jayden’s voice, bringing me back from the inner monologue of dissection of my screwed–over feelings.
“Alpha Kelix, there is something we would like to discuss with you three and Kiara. Can we talk in your office?” He said.
Nodding furiously, my brothers showed King Kayden and King Jayden into their office with me training behind them.
What did they need to talk about? Did I do something? No, that couldn’t be; I hadn’t seen them in two years.
As I stood there in the corner of the office, trying to gather my thoughts and calm my racing heart, King Kayden spoke up in his deep, commanding voice.
“Kiara, it’s been a while,” he said, his golden eyes locking onto mine.
I nodded, unable to find my voice. King Jayden smirked at me with a teasing glint in his eyes.
“Seems like someone missed us,” he said, his voice tinged with
amusement.
I blushed furiously, feeling embarrassed and exposed under their intense gazes.
“I–I….” I stammered, struggling to form coherent words. “I didn’t expect to see you both here, your highnesses. Is there something wrong” I said, worry lacing my words.
Kayden’s expression softened, and he got up and took a step closer to me where I was standing but still kept a respectable distance.
“We were expected to a round of the packs, and since we were around, we thought to deliver some important news as well,” he said, his voice gentler now.
“You need to return to the castle today, Kiara. The rules have changed, and all students have to return to the castle two weeks prior to their eighteenth birthday to settle in before their scholar’s work begins.” Said. King Jayden
I blinked, processing his words. It was true that I had been away from the castle for two years, studying to become a warrior scholar. But now, things have changed, and I needed to return earlier than expected. I glanced at my brothers, who were listening attentively to the conversation. When had the rules changed, and why? And why
two weeks before their eighteenth birthday? For years the rule was that every recipient was expected to return a week after their birthday. It wasn’t like I needed two weeks to settle in. I knew the castle for its nook and cranny for the time I spent there. I should be ecstatic about returning, it meant me being closer to them, but I wanted to be at Crescent HAven for my birthday just in case I would find my mate.
“Kiara, you should go back with them,” Kelix, the oldest of my brothers, said.
“It’s important for you to follow the rules and settle in before your scholar’s work begins. It gives you time to get to know your mentors and anyone else you’ll be working with” Phoenix nodded in agreement.
I wanted to protest a bit and tell them why I wanted to wait, but before I could say anything, Helix, the youngest of the triplets, spoke up.
“We’ll miss you, but we know you’ll do great at the castle.”
“Yeah, Kiara, you’ve always been the responsible one among us. We trust you to make the right decision.” Said Kelix.
I sighed, feeling torn. On the one hand, I wanted to stay and spend more time with my brothers, who I hadn’t lived with for very long and look for my mate on my birthday. On the other hand, I knew I had to fulfill my duties as a warrior scholar and follow the rules set by the kings.
Before I could respond, King Jayden spoke up, his voice teasing once again.

“Well, it’s settled then Kiara will come back with us to the castle,” he smirked.
Wait, what! Why did I have to go back with them? And since when did they become so easygoing and smirking after every five minutes? Had they hit their heads or something?
Kayden nodded in agreement.
“Yes, it’s for the best. You need to settle in before your scholar’s work begins,” he said, his tone firm but gentle.
I bit my lip. feeling a mix of emotions. Part of me was excited to see. the kings again on a daily basis and be back at the castle where I had spent so much time and made precious memories. But another part of me was sad to leave my brothers behind and face the unknown.
As if reading my thoughts, Kayden reached out and placed a comforting hand on my shoulder; tiny zaps went through, making my spine straighten and look at where his hand was placed.
What the hell was that now? I was losing it, surely!
“Don’t worry, Kiara, we’ll take good care of you at the castle,” he said softly.
I looked up at him, and for a moment, our eyes locked. I could see the sincerity in his eyes, and it made my heart skip a beat. I knew I had feelings for both Kayden and Jayden, but I also knew that it was
complicated. They were kings, and 1 was just a warrior scholar at most. Hut at that moment, I couldn’t deny my attraction and connection. toward them. Jayden cleared his throat, breaking the moment.
“Well, shall we get going then?” he said, his teasing smirk back on his lace
I nodded, finally finding my voice.
“Yes. I’ll go with you both. Let me just get my bags.”
