Alpha King’s Wolfless Mate by Scarlett Higgins

Chapter 15

Chapter 15 Blake POV It was easy to throw together a wedding, now that I was back in my castle with all the power and financial resources of a king. I’d been so busy with planning and Nora had been busy getting fitted for her dress. We hadn’t seen each other in days by the time the wedding day arrived. I made sure it was a massive affair, every one of prominence was invited, including members of neighboring packs that were loyal to me and my kingdom. The morning of the wedding, I woke up to Charles knocking on my bedroom door. From that point on, my day was packed. I had the final fitting for my tuxedo, then Charles made me eat a big breakfast. I went around to check on the flower arrangements, the music for the reception, drinks, and the menu. When I was satisfied that everything was perfect, I got dressed in my tux and went to the castle courtyard to greet the arriving guests. Several alphas from smaller packs were arriving with their lunas. Limos kept pulling up and dropping their guests off. “Congratulations, King Blake.” “Thank you. The ceremony is taking place in the back gardens. You should find your seats,” I said, waving the couple along. “What perfect weather for a wedding.” I nodded and waved the next pair along. I did the ‘meet and greet‘ routine for a while but when I heard the musicians in the garden start playing. I went back and stood at the podium, situated in front of a Moon Goddess statue. There was an arch of fresh flowers over the podium that Nora and I would be standing under. Most of the chairs were filled by the time I got there, and a red carpet rolled out down the center aisle. When the bridal march began, all the guests stood up. Nora appeared at the end of the red carpet and my heart started thrumming like a jet engine ready to take off into the sky. The last time I’d seen her, she’d been smudged with dirt, her hair messy, clothing torn and soiled. Now, she looked radiant. Nora’s hair was shiny and braided around her head in a crown. There were little white and purple flowers tucked into the braid, reminding me of the flowers in the field where we’d gotten married in the Rogue Zone. I smiled to myself as she started walking down the aisle. She was alone with no father to escort her. I realized I didn’t even know if her parents were alive, not that they could come if they were because she’d been exiled. Her dress had a champagne–colored sheath that clung to her waist and hips that fell to her knees. It had thin spaghetti straps and a low–cut n*eckline. Over the champagne satin was a layer of white lace that gave her long sleeves and extended to the ground, forming a train behind her. Nora clutched the bouquet of purple, white, and green in her hands, her cheeks getting deeper and deeper red as she approached me. I couldn’t remember ever seeing anyone so beautiful. She was S*xy and strangely smelt so good all at the same time….as were true mates, and it was a genuine wedding. I was struggling to focus on what we were really doing there, and next moment – Nora stopped right in front of me. I blinked, snapping out of my trance, and held my hand out to her. She set her bouquet aside and took my hand. if we While the officiant read from his book, speaking of love, honor, and our sacred bond before the Moon Goddess, I couldn’t take my eyes off Nora With each breath, her bosom rose and fell, accenting her subtle, yet pleasing, curve more. I tightened my grip on her hands and she but her lower l*p. She was looking at the officiant, so I could stare at her all I wanted In the Rogue Zone, it had been impossible to see what lovely creature existed underneath the dirt and grime. She’d been so miserable all the time. Now, she was smiling and had rosy cheeks   She was absolutely stunning. 1 felt a stir low in my abdomen. Heat pooled, causing a stiffening that constricted my pants. What would it be like, if Nora and I were to be husband and wife in every sense of the word? For the first time, I found myself wishing I could take her as my wife, fully. “Do you take Nora to be your wife, before the Moon Goddess, through better or for worse?” the officiant asked, snapping me from my thoughts “I do” I said, feeling the truth and sacredness of my words deep in my heart. Nora was asked the same question and she agreed, too. “I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may k*ss the bride,” the official said, holding his book in the air. 1 grabbed Nora, pulling her against me. She squeaked in surprise as 1 dipped her backward, supporting her in my arms and pressing my l*ps to hers in a hungry k*ss. The guests started clapping but I shut them out. I concentrated on Nora; feeling her warm, soft b*dy in my arms, how her gentle, silky l*ps pressed to mine, and the way my own arousal responded to being close to her. I pulled back and stared into her eyes. She panted heavily, her eyes full of curiosity. “That was unexpected,” she whispered. I smirked and lifted her upright. “I was caught up in the moment,” I said, winking. We left the gardens and went to the event tent I’d organized for the reception. The musicians had moved inside and there were servants walking around with champagne and appetizers. I kept Nora close to me, my arm looped around her waist. This was going to be the hard part. “Are you ready for this?” I asked. “For what?” she responded, looking at me with those big, soft eyes of hers. One of the musicians grabbed the microphone. “Would the newlyweds please move onto the dancefloor for their first dance as husband and wife?”

“Oh.” Nora groaned. “Relax. I’ll make you look like a pro,” I promised. I led her onto the dancefloor and pulled her into my arms again. I wanted any excuse to hold her close right now. I’d become far too enamored with her, now that she was cleaned up. If I wasn’t careful. I’d take it too far. We danced and I led Nora through the steps. I could tell she was uneasy, her hand trembled in mine and she bit her bottom hip in concentration. We made it through without any mishaps and as soon as other couples moved onto the dancefloor, Nora quickly moved off. I laughed and followed her. “See, you did great,” I told her. Clap. Clap. Clap. Kelly approached us, slowly clapping her hands. “My, my, that was a show. I was half expecting a heathen like you to trip over yourself when the music started.” “I can hold my own,” Nora said smiling. She grabbed a glass of champagne off a tray that passed by. “Why don’t we put that to the test, shall we?” Kelly asked. She flashed her eyes to me. “I have no objections, how about you, my dear?” I asked, looking at Nora. “Bring it on.” Nora challenged, raising her glass before taking a sip. “I imagine you have to know how to play an instrument. Why don’t you grace us all with a piano number,” Kelly said, motioning to the stage where there was a piano . “No thank you.” Nora said, shaking her head. “Really? But a woman such as yourself, who snared the King’s heart and attention, must be one of refined taste,” Kelly crossed her arms and gave Nora a pointed look. I sl*pped my arm around Nora’s waist and patiently waited to see how she’d respond. While I didn’t want there to be any drama, I did want her to know what it meant to work through these situations.. “I have many refined tastes, they probably aren’t what you are expecting,” Nora shrugged. “So, you can’t speak any other languages? Can you dance anything more complex than a waltz?” Kelly’s eyes widened dramatically. “I speak the only languages I need to speak. English and b*dy language,” Nora retorted. She chuckled and glanced at me. I hid my smirk but nodded in approval at her response. She did know how to be saucy when she wanted to be. “That’s vulgar,” Kelly snapped. She scoffed and looked at me. “How can you let your wife talk like that in public?” “I don’t believe I ‘let‘ Nora do anything. It is not my place to control her,” I said indifferently. That seemed to rile Kelly up more. She rolled her eyes and turned her attention back to Nora. “What are you good at? Do you have any uses at all?” she sneered. Nora took another sip of her champagne and set the glass aside on a tray as another servant passed by. “Lady Kelly, your idea of the perfect, poised woman isn’t the same as mine. The qualities I value might differ but they are not less important,” Nora stated matter of factly. My chest swelled with pride. She really wasn’t going to let these people embarrass her. “How could the king marry you? You’re… you’re nothing but a barbarian! I’d be a much better choice for him,” Kelly snapped.  “Really?” Nora asked, tilting her head. “Well, you are welcome to him. Do you think you can get him to leave me and marry you? If you do, give it a try” I clamped my teeth down on the inside of my cheek. She was witty. I didn’t know if Nora was challenging Kelly or me. Perhaps both of us. “Blake, how can you just stand there? Didn’t you hear that?” Kelly asked, gaping at me. “I did. And I find it rather… interesting,” I chuckled. “She obviously doesn’t care about you? “Perhaps that is how you see it. But I know better,” I said, tightening my grip on Nora’s hips. She squeaked and nestled into my arm slightly. “Nora has a unique and interesting character. Don’t you think?” Kelly scoffed. “She’s a floozy. She’d sell you off to the highest bidder if she could. She just told me she wouldn’t stand in my way.” “And nor will she. However, if you truly believe she is all that stands between you and me, then you don’t know me at all. Nora, however, does know me.” I k*ssed Nora gently on the check. Nora beamed and I was having trouble figuring out if her reactions were real or all part of her act. “Go easy on her, Kelly. She is my wife. I know her and she knows me. I trust her, and what she says is not a challenge to our relationship.” I assured. I turned around, pulling Nora along with me as I walked away from Kelly. Nora chuckled, holding my arms. She raised her head and our eyes met, I couldn’t figure out why my heart suddenly beat so fast. I wondered, if this was the real her before she lost her wolf, if….she had been so close with that Jeremy that time as well. I needed a drink.
