Chapter 90
Love Story - Chapter 15
On the eve of going abroad, I met Nico once.
It was Dominic who called me.
"What is it?" I didn't really want to take his call. From the moment I knew he had helped Nico deceive me, our friendship had ended too.
"Emily, Nico's in the hospital. He drank so much he got a gastric hemorrhage."
"Should I give you his mom's number instead?"
I replied calmly.
He choked for a moment, then stammered:
"Emily, I know you're still angry with him. But you two had a ten-year relationship after all... This guy's been drinking like there's no tomorrow. Even if he were made of iron, he couldn't take it.
Why don't you come and scold him a bit, at least to vent your anger?"
Angry? Not at all. To me, he was already a stranger, not worth causing any emotional fluctuations.
I lowered my eyes and thought for a while, feeling there were some things I still needed to say, so I agreed.
Nico was lying in the hospital bed, having lost a lot of weight.
When he saw me come in, his eyes lit up for a moment:
"Why did you come?"
Then he glanced at Dominic, "Blabbermouth."
His left leg was wrapped in thick bandages.
"What happened to your leg?"
He laughed awkwardly:
"Got drunk and stumbled on the roadside."
Seeing my indifferent expression, he continued:
"Remember when your parents didn't agree to us dating and locked you up at home for a month? I missed you so much that I secretly went to your house to find you. I couldn't get in through the front door, so I climbed through the window, and we had a date in your bedroom..."
"Your brother was also very wary of me back then. Once, we almost got caught by him, and I was so panicked I jumped out of your second-floor window. That time I also injured my left leg..." I nodded:
"Seems they were right to refuse."
That one sentence froze the smile on Nico's face. His gaze darkened:
"You still won't forgive me? If you can't forgive me, why did you come to see me? Why give me false hope? Don't you think that's cruel?"
I looked down at him:
"I came to tell you to stop having your buddies make excuses for you. It's annoying."
"Also, your body is your own
business. What you do with it is your affair. But I still have shares in the company. If you're planning to give up on this company, please let me know so I can prepare to withdraw my investment. If you think you can still manage it, then pull yourself together and make some money for me. "
Nico's head drooped completely. I didn't want to stay any longer and was about to leave with my bag when Dominic stopped me. He angrily said to Nico:
"Hey hey hey, You little punk, you say you miss her when she's not around, but you turn into a coward when you see her?"
Then he turned to me, looking indignant:
"Emily, isn't this too much? You two had a ten-year relationship.
Even if you're not lovers anymore, can't you at least be friends?"
"Nico really knows he was wrong. He's cut ties with that girl completely, I can vouch for that! If you don't believe him, can't you believe me?"
"How can you be so heartless!"
His words made me laugh in anger. I pointed at him:
"Dominic, I didn't confront you because I was leaving you some face. Don't be ungrateful."
"When you were covering up for Nico's affair, did you ever advise him to cherish our ten-year relationship?"
"Not believing him but believing you? Who are you trying to fool? Don't you have any self-awareness about the things you've done? And---"
"In college, when your dad was
tricked by an acquaintance into being a guarantor, racking up huge debts and nearly jumping off a
family connections to find you a lawyer to solve the problem
building, it was me who use
"When you had a car accident and urgently needed surgery but couldn't afford it, it was me who advanced the money to cover your surgery fees." "Even your entry into this company was thanks to me, guiding you step by step, nurturing you into a high-level executive at Mingcheng."
"Dominic, anyone else can say I'm heartless, but you have no right to."
I looked at him, then at Nico:
"From now on, when we meet, you
and Nico should call me Emily. Emily
is for my friends to call me. Hearing
ке
these two syllables from your mouths makes me feel a bit@ick."
After venting all at once, I no longer wanted to look at Dominic's reddened face and stormed out.
