After Death, Love Unveiled (Elara and Lysander)

Chapter Unveiled 134

Chapter 134

Luckily, after Yessenia passed away, Lysander finally did as his mother wished and distanced himself from the Hawthorne family. After all these years, as Lysander returned to the Hawthorne family, Wyatt probably wouldn't treat him too badly. Once Lysander finished talking with his father, Elara filled Natalie in on Harold's intentions. Natalie said, "Let him handle it for now."

"Just be careful and don't let them cause you trouble," Elara advised.

Natalie nodded. "Okay."

Since Harold had insisted on dealing with Natalie's divorce on his own, Elara decided to leave him to it for the time being. She returned to the company to continue her work.

At this point, Hazel knew about Elara's situation and had been treating her better. When there were new projects, he stopped giving everything to Adair.

What had once been her sole opportunities were now being overshadowed by Elara, and Adair was struggling to accept it. Just when things were heating up, Evelyn arrived. Adair immediately made her way to Evelyn's office. "Hi, Ms. Hawthorne." Adair greeted her, stepping in.

Evelyn, sitting on the sofa and texting on her phone, looked up when Adair entered and asked, "What's up?"

Besides Wyatt, Evelyn had another older brother. Adair was actually her sister-in-law's niece. When Adair first started at the firm, her mother had called Evelyn, asking her to look out for her.

But Evelyn, preoccupied with other matters, wasn't particularly interested in Adair. She simply instructed her subordinates, who were handling things on the ground.

Adair then said, "I was hoping to invite you and some of the other lawyers from the firm out to dinner. Is that okay?"

Although Adair's aunt had married into the Hawthorne family, Adair wasn't really close with the people there. She felt a little nervous standing in front of Evelyn.

"Dinner?" Evelyn asked. "What's this about? Do you need something? Just say it."

"No, nothing like that. I just wanted to treat everyone to dinner. I've been with the firm for a while now," Adair explained.

"Alright, arrange it then," Evelyn said. She didn't mind, as she had a lot of free time.

Recently, Evelyn had been busy with other things and hadn't paid much attention to the firm's affairs. But she suddenly remembered Elara, who had also been at the firm for some time now.

"Can I bring someone with me? You won't mind, will you?" Evelyn asked.

Adair nodded. "Not a problem."

After leaving Evelyn's office, Adair made the necessary calls to arrange the dinner. Adair was aware that Elara was likely trying to compete with her, but she would make sure Elara knew that her connections were something Elara couldn't match. Once Adair established a good relationship with Evelyn, getting promoted would be a piece of cake. When Elara saw Adair walk past her, she let out a cold laugh and ignored her.

After Adair left, Elara received a call from Evelyn. "Come have dinner with me later."

"Huh?" Elara replied. "Why are you inviting me?"

"Don't want to go? Or do you already have plans? Lysander's not around these days, right?" Evelyn said.

Elara responded, "He's not here."

"Then you have something else to do?" Evelyn asked.

"It's not really anything important," Elara said.

"You're all at the firm, and meeting your seniors would be good. Don't you want to move forward?" Evelyn said.

"I'll go. I really do want to make progress," Elara said.

It was rare for Evelyn, who typically kept a low profile, to invite Elara out like this. Moreover, Elara could sense that Evelyn and her mother seemed to have a pretty good relationship. Once Evelyn agreed, Adair went ahead and invited the others. Knowing that Evelyn had agreed, no one else had any objections.

In Hazel's Office, Adair shared the news with him. "Ms. Hawthorne agreed?"

"Yes," Adair replied.

Hazel asked, "Should we invite Elara to join us?" He hoped that Adair and Elara could get along well.

Hearing Hazel's suggestion, Adair responded, "Hazel, you're really good to her. You've been giving her all these opportunities, and now you're even inviting her to dinner. But she probably won't come."

Adair didn't ask directly. Even if Elara wanted to join, Adair wouldn't allow it. 'If Elara has the ability, she can invite herself. Let's see if they'll be kind enough to accept, Adair thought to herself.

After work, Elara asked Evelyn to send her the address, and she drove there. Due to traffic, Elara took a wrong little lost, so she arrived a bit later than expected.

In the private room, Adair noticed the empty seat next to Evelyn and asked, "Aunt Evelyn, is your friend not coming?" Since it was after work hours, she didn't use the formal address for Evelyn anymore and just called her by her name. They were relatives, so Evelyn didn't mind. "She's on her way. There was some traffic. Everyone can start eating if you're hungry," Evelyn said.

"It's fine. We can wait," someone replied. The person Evelyn was bringing must have been important. The others, seeing Adair and Evelyn talking, curiously asked, "Ms. Hawthorne, do you know Adair?"

"She?" Evelyn glanced at Adair and smiled. "She's my sister-in-law's niece." Hearing this connection, the others started looking at Adair differently.

Adair briefly glanced at Hazel, remembering how he had favored Elara. She wondered if he regretted it now.

Adair felt a sense of satisfaction and a surge of boldness. She turned to Evelyn and said, "I heard Lysander's back. I wonder what he's been up to lately."

"He's busy with work," Evelyn replied, giving her a look. "Why? Do you know him?"

"No, I'm just a little curious," Adair said. Adair had heard that Lysander was handsome, and she was quite eager to meet him.

Just then, the door to the private room opened, and the waiter escorted Elara inside. Elara scanned the room, recognizing a few familiar faces. Besides Evelyn and Hazel, there was also Cynthia's mentor. When Adair saw Elara, she was stunned. She hadn't expected Elara to show up. Adair frowned and confronted Elara. "Elara, what are you doing here? Who invited you?"

Adair did not invite Elara. 'Could Hazel have invited her? Hazel's been so nice to Elara? If this keeps up, he might consider switching mentors, Adair thought.

Evelyn gave Elara a look and waved her over. "Come, and sit down."

Elara walked over. "Sorry, I'm a bit late."

She sat beside Evelyn. "There was some traffic, and I took a wrong turn."

Evelyn looked at her and couldn't help but laugh. "It's fine. You're not that late. We're all from the firm. Never mind."

Adair was momentarily taken aback. Seeing Evelyn and Elara chatting so casually and in such a friendly manner, Adair furrowed her brows. 'Why is Evelyn being so nice to Elara?' Adair thought to herself. Evelyn then introduced Elara to the lawyers present. Elara greeted everyone one by one. Once the introductions were done, Evelyn spoke to the group. "This is Elara, Ziva's daughter."

At the mention of Ziva, the room went silent, and many of the older lawyers' eyes widened in recognition. "Ziva's daughter?"

Those with more experience at the firm knew Ziva well, and even those who were newer had heard of her. Everyone was stunned that Elara was Ziva's daughter.

Evelyn continued, "The reason I invited everyone today is to announce a thing. Hazel, I'll be taking Elara under my wing from now on. I hope there's no objection?" Adair was completely taken aback.
