My breath was trapped in my chest as I stared into his eyes, the big black beast standing above me. I watched him carefully, scared I would get injured if I made the wrong move.

When he saw my nervousness around him, he whimpered slightly, digging his face into the crook of my neck. Due to his massive size, though, and the fact that he was bigger than any wolf I had ever seen, his fur covered my face with the motion.

I was stock still, hoping I could slip away, unnoticed. When I tried to wriggle from his grasp, however, he growled a warning, one that was deadly and full of threat. I shook from fear as hot tears cascaded down my cheeks, knowing that making it out of here alive was never truly a possibility.

When he noticed the effect he had on me, he reluctantly pulled away, taking in my distraught before he stood, going behind a tree for a moment. I laid paralyzed on the ground, not sure if I could move.

Footsteps came back from the very tree, and I curled up into a ball knowing that running was useless. I wasn’t one to easily give up, but I knew when I was beat. And this was just one of those times.

“Harp,” I looked up to see Justin in nothing but basketball shorts, running over to me.

“Justin, w-where is the wolf?” I asked, shaking slightly just at the mention of that vile creature.

“I’m the wolf, Harp, there’s nothing to be afraid of.”

“Y-you think I’m crazy, don’t you? Well, there is an actual wolf in the woods, one that almost killed me.”

“Killed you?” Justin looked mostly sad and... hurt at the sudden accusation. “Harp, Seth and I would never - ”

“Who’s Seth?”

He sighed, running a hand through his hair before sitting down beside me, giving me some space at the same time. “I’m a werewolf. My wolf Seth-”

I cut him off once again. “If you’re a werewolf, then prove it.”

He looked like he had been anticipating that, and told me to be prepared for when he shifted. Honestly, did he take me for being that gullible?

Then, there was a shift of limbs, and cracking noise before the black wolf stood in his place. Looking around, I realized there was no trick - Justin was actually a werewolf.

A real life werewolf!

I felt a little dizzy before everything around me went black, the shock completely consuming me.

When I awoke, I was back in the cave, and laying across from me was the wolf, his head in his paws as he watched me carefully. I panicked at first, but that was right before all the memories of seeing Justin ‘shift’ into him flooded my mind, making me jump in shock and surprise.

The wolf eyed me carefully as he monitored my every move, looking like he was having some sort of internal debate about whether he should come and comfort me or not.

He stood up slowly, going into the low crawl as he approached me. Tears slid down my face despite the knowledge that this was Justin. A wild animal coming at you with their head down was never a good sign.

When he knew I wasn’t going to run, he stood up a little straighter, before jogging over to me. Once he was right next to me, he began sniffing me everywhere, something I couldn’t help but giggle like a toddler at. What? His nose was cold and wet and tickled me.

I put my hands on either side of his head to stop his curious nose, causing our eyes to meet and lock. In them, I could make out part of Justin’s, but it was also mixed with someone else. Was this Seth, the one he had been talking about?

I was pulled abruptly out of my thoughts as the wolf sent a big sloppy lick across my face, making me pull back and chuckle. “Gross,” I said, trying to wipe the amount of slobber he had gotten onto me.

He then stepped away and walked behind a corner, before Justin appeared, again, in basketball shorts.

“Now do you believe me?” I nodded, not being able to speak. He walked towards me, before sitting down and pulling me into his lap. I squeaked at the sudden move, not expecting it, especially not when he stuffed his head in the crook of my neck as well.

“S-So, was that Seth?” I asked, trying not to let our proximity get to me.

“Yeah. Sorry if he scared you at first. He really was eager to meet you without you running.” He pulled back slightly, just enough that he could see my eyes.

“Can you explain everything?”

“Sure thing, Harp. I thought you’d never ask.” He smirked, before setting me back on the ground, preparing to reveal his world to me.

“So, basically, there are werewolves in the world. They are either in packs, or are total rogues, meaning they don’t belong to one. Here in this town, there is a pack, one that my father rules over as the Alpha. When I said I am going to get the family business when I turn eighteen, I really meant that I will become the next Alpha this Friday.

“Basically, all werewolves can shift, and have mates. I’ll get to that part in a minute, don’t worry. But pretty much, the pack is broken into basic ranks : There is the Alpha, who is the leader, and the Luna, who is the Alpha’s mate. The Alpha focuses more on leading the pack and working to protect them from outside invaders. The Luna focuses more on the goings inside the pack.

“Then there are the Beta and the Gamma. The Beta is basically second in command, and helps the Alpha with some of his decision making. The Gamma is like third in command, and assists the Luna.

“Jeremy is my Beta, and the Gamma is someone you haven’t met yet.”

“What about the Luna, who is she?”

Justin smiled, just shaking his head.

I knew this was a lot to take in, but I wanted to hear it all, that way I could digest it all.
