Abe, a weird and short werewolf novel

Chapter 6

Abbygail’s point of view:

“You did what?!” Harley practically dragged me through the phone, wanting to strangle me.

“Well, we didn’t accept any new contracts and I wanted to do this for Linda.”

“My ass you wanted to do this for her! What is going on with you?!” She shouted again.

I sighed as she was right, I am compromising our safety by doing this, but there was something about where Linda lived that piqued my interest. I can’t really tell what it is, as I don’t know what it is either, but I wanted to help them.

“Just go to Disneyland with your twins for a week, don’t bother yourself about me, I’ll be fine.”

“Are you alright, Abby?” She asked me sincerely.

“Yes, I think I am.” I said thoughtfully honest.

“Alright,” She sighed. “I could actually use some quality time with the boys.” She committed. “But if I’m doing this, I need two weeks and Nana can come along too. All at your expense of course.”

“Of course, I wouldn’t want it any other way.” I smiled.

I packed my bags as I had agreed to stay at Mr Williams’ mansion during the time I would be installing his security system. I even took the red dress I had gotten from Mike, or rather taken from Mike as I hadn’t paid for it yet, and the pumps that so beautifully glared at me right now.

Then, I went over towards my garage and thought about which car to take with me, as I didn’t want to show off my wealth by taking a too-big of a car.

Maserati, nope.

Ferrari, nope.

Bugatti, hell no!

Oh! All of them end with an ‘i’ that’s funny!

Okay, I’m going to settle for this one. It’s a bit dusty from not using it for a long time, as I normally drive my other cars, but this will have to do. I don’t really like driving my Jeep, as it brought me back to bad memories, but I just have to shake them off. Maybe I just kept it to keep me reminded of all the bad things, just like I had never legally changed my first name.

Linda stood at the parking lot, waiting for me and to help me unload my bags. “I’m so glad you’re here!” She huffed and puffed.

“Why’s that?”

“Because now he has someone else to be angry towards!” She said while guiding me towards the door of the mansion.

“Has he been bad to you?” I asked in return, raising my brow.

“No, not that. He’s just annoyed and irritated! I think you really did a number on him.”

“I did huh?” I smirked. Good. Serves him right.

“Oh, don’t get me wrong. I’m happy you did, he’s finally trying to keep down his anger instead of lashing it out on us! Not in a bad way though!” She quickly added, but I couldn’t understand a good way of lashing out anger.

Oh well, we will see what he does or says to me, and if I don’t like it, I’ll let him know, properly.

“Andrea!” Mike hollered across the hallway. Damn, I need to get used to that name.

“Mike, I’ll pay you back for the clothes you had picked out for me, I promise.” I said.

“Oh, don’t worry about that, our al… boss, pays for them.” He said, scratching behind his head. What was that slip-up?

“Okay, great, thank you.” I said and he nodded.

“So, what kind of security system did you have in mind? What do you require it to do, Mister Williams?” I asked while putting my feet on the coffee table as my laptop was resting on my lap.

“Don’t call me that.”

“Call you what?” I looked up from my screen, not knowing what he was referring to.

“Don’t call me Mister Williams.” He said.

“Isn’t that your name?”

“It is, but since you are living here, we don’t have to be so formal.” He explained. “Just call me… Scott.” He continued.

“Did you just come up with that name?” I asked him with a smile, as he was hesitant to tell me.

“No… just continue.” He said, pointing to my laptop.

“Okay…” I said while rolling my eyes and we spend the next two hours talking things over.

He said things he wanted for the system to do and I came up with ideas for equipment and possibilities. He was impressed by my technological insight, even though I had shown him a sliver of what I could do already.

But all this time we had been talking, he had been sitting in his chair with his back straight. He didn’t want to show me any weakness, not after what I had done to him already, I suppose. I think I broke the poor man!

“You can ask my Be… fuck!- He shook his head as he cut himself off.

What’s with all the slip-ups?

“Ask Zachary for ordering the material, he’s my right hand and he will take care of things for you. I need to leave for a while.” He growled and hurried out of his office, without even saying goodbye.

Strange…

A few days had passed and I was almost finished with the installation plans for the security system. I looked at the big conference table that was littered with floorplans and ideas of where to put everything. Also, some samples of equipment had been scattered on the floor, for me to see how they should be mounted on the walls and such, to give me an idea of where I could place them.

In short, Scott couldn’t have any meeting soon, as I had taken over this room.

Not that he minded, he was gone most of the day anyway. I hardly ever saw him and when I did he tried to avoid me, so I just assumed I was doing a good job and just continued. Not that I ever doubted my work, but still.

“Does Scott wants me to create a backup server for all the footage as well?” I asked Zachary.

“Uhm, I’ll ask him later.”

“Why is he never around? I’m doing this for him.” I pointed to all the mess on the table.

“Yes, well, I think he has a hard time being in a room with you.”

“I can understand that, I mean, I had him cornered into agreeing my demands. But that doesn’t mean he has to avoid me like he does.” I said while looking towards Zachary.

“Right.” He chuckled, at which I rose a brow.

“What’s that supposed to mean?”

“Nothing.” He said while suddenly my shirt was being pulled at.

“Oh, hello there.” I said as a little girl looked hopefully towards me, while holding a toy in her hands.

“Lina said you fix things. You fix lala?” She asked me, calling Linda ‘Lina’ as she was too young to say it well while holding out a little sheep for me to take.

I turned the little thing around and noticed a string coming out of its belly. It must be one of those lullaby toys to get little children to sleep, but as I pulled at the string, it didn’t go in as it should, making no sound at all.

“See, broken.” The little girl stated smartly and I smiled.

I grabbed my little toolkit that had small screwdrivers in them, that I normally use for opening up my laptop, and carefully opened up the belly of the little sheep. Cautiously, the little girl watched in horror as I opened up her favourite toy, but I explained to her that I was going to fix it and for her to not worry.

As I anticipated, a small spring had broken inside the little music box and after taking out another spring from a pen, I fixed the little sheep and pulled the cord again.

A sweet lullaby twinkled through the room and the little girl’s eyes lit up in joy. “Lala!” She shouted and hugged the soft toy. “Thank you!” She said as she scurried out of the room.

“Lina, tell Alpha she is very good!” I heard her shout at which right after, Linda tried to hush her quickly.

I turned around fast, trying to catch Zachary’s facial impression. His cheeks were red and his eyes grew wide. I’m a smart girl, too smart for my liking sometimes, as right now, I couldn’t believe what my brain had come up with.

“You never call him by name. You always flinch when I say his name out loud. Even he didn’t want me to tell you your name, as he always calls you something else.” I began to summarize what I had seen. “Even when I asked about him, the first time I mentioned his name out loud while talking to Linda, she also flinched and didn’t want to say his name either.” I stalked my way over to Zachary, while his eyes were focused on me in fear of what I would deduct from this.

“He called you his right-hand, but as the little girl just said ‘Alpha’, probably referring to Scott by this, I know you must be the Beta.”

Suddenly, as if I had opened a safe of secrets, like a thief stealing its contents, the man I was talking about, growled displeasingly loud behind me.

“Step away from her!” He commanded Zachary, which couldn’t find out how fast his feet could take him away. Scott closed the door behind him and then stalked his way over to me.

“What do you know?” He asked me.

“Enough to know my mind is going crazy.” I answered.
