Chapter 8
After our meal, we made our way out of the restaurant. All of the servers and host bowing deeply to Alex and thanking me for coming. My arm was interlinked with Alex. He grabbed it and was almost holding it hostage with his hand placed over the top of mine, holding it in place. As we exited the restaurant, the crisp night air gave me the chills and I started to shiver. I could even hear my teeth chattering outside my head. Darn it. I forgot my jacket in the rush to get down to the car when I left. Instantly Alex stopped, removing his coat and draping it over my shoulders. I pulled it over my shoulders and closer to my neck. I looked at him, his emerald eyes glowing in the night, staring back at me, they melted me. I could smell his scent on the coat and I took in several deep breaths holding them in for as long as I could, to make and hold a memory from it. He linked his arm again with mine, replacing his hand on top of mine again to set it back in place. Mason was waiting by the car and approached, bowing as he got closer. Alex waved him off and told him we were going for a walk and to meet us at the Clock Tower Park. We were going to walk all that way by ourselves....it was a decent walk but I was more than happy to spend that time with him walking and talking.
I asked him more questions about his world and life. He wouldn't go into much details about what he did but I gathered he was someone of importance in their world. Talking about his duties and trips he had coming up, meetings with other clans and arranging treaties and alliances with the werewolves and witches. I was in awe about how much meaning and purpose his life seemed to have and compared to my dismal life of waitressing, dog walking and cleaning, I guess my life was pretty pathetic to a vampire....compared to him. "Miss Luna, I must be honest. These duties are my responsibility and although I am duty bound, they are by no means what makes my life have meaning and purpose.". Whoops, I forgot he could hear me. "In time, I hope you will come to understand where my meaning and purpose comes from. It's taken me a long time to get here, but it's been worth the wait.". He smiled before gently kissing me on the cheek.
We continued to talk about things as we walked. Occasionally stopping to watch the water in the river flow past. The moonlight reflected over the ripples in the water and had me spellbound. "So...I need to ask. It has been killing me and I know Mason wouldn't tell me everything.". He grimaced at me mentioning Mason's name again. "Oh yeah.....what did Mason say...". His eye colour began to change to a golden colour with flecks of glowing red through them. I felt as if the hand holding mine to his arm was about to catch fire from how hot it had just become. "He said your intentions for me are pure and that you have a genuine concern for me and my well-being.". The fire that was about to erupt on my hand began to subside, his eyes returning to their emerald green colour. He pushed his long dark hair that was partially covering his face back behind his ear before nodding slightly. "So what is it you want to know Luna?". He face still looking concerned. "It's not so much a want to know thing, but a need to know.". I paused. Taking a deep breath as I perhaps seal my fate...."are you going to kill me? Sorry, I know that is blunt but I need to know? I don't want to become a blood bag or a pet either. I just want to know what you want from me.". I hung my head, shameful of the fact I literally just asked a vampire who had shown me a perfect evening if I was his midnight snack. Alex stopped in his place. Turned to me before taking both of my hands and placing it on his chest. I could feel his muscular figure through his shirt, just like I had in the dream, only this time it was real. I could feel his heart beat, strong and steady. "Luna, I swear to you, that my intentions are as pure as they could ever be. In no way do I ever want to harm you, or see you become harmed. I would give my immortal soul to keep you safe and happy. And if it takes an eternity for me to prove that I will.". A tear began to run down my cheek. No one has ever spoken to me like that before. "I am just a measley human. Surely you would be much happier with someone of your own kind.". He frowned. "Luna, I have been on this world for far longer than I care to admit. And although, yes, there have been other partners, mostly before you were even born, it's you I am destined to be with. It's you...who I want to be with.". Another tear ran down my cheek, but he gently wiped it away with his thumb, holding my face in the palm of his hand as he did. How could he know this, what if he was wrong. Surely being with a human isn't something that his kind would be so accepting about. He grabbed my hand and kissed it again. "Luna, I will explain that part one day but for now, just know that no one would dare question us or challenge us. I guarantee you, that even as a human within our world, you will be adored, cared for and protected at all times.". He pulled me into his chest and wrapped his strong arms around me. I took a deep breath in of his scent and melted into his body. I didn't want to move. I wanted to stay in the moment forever. He grabbed my hands and held them tightly for a second, before pulling his coat back up on my shoulders to straighten it up. Lifting the collar up around my neck. He kissed me again lightly on my cheek, before holding my hand and continuing to walk.
Once we reached Clock Tower Park, I could see the black sedan parked. With Mason waiting by the door. A smile appeared on his face for a brief moment before disappearing and gazing at the full moon. I could see his steel grey eyes as we walked, reflecting the light of the moon. Alex kept his hand with mine as we continued to walk through the park to the car. "Enjoyable evening Miss Luna?". I smiled "Indeed". However, my smile was very short lived as I observed the look Alex gave Mason. Was it so bad? He was only trying to be friendly. But Alex looked as if he could tear him limb from limb. As we sat in the car silently, Alex sitting on the other side of the black leather seat from me, gazing out the window, I slid myself over and placed my hand on his. I leant over to his ear and in a low voice so not to be heard by anyone else but him, "You don't need to be angry with him. He's just trying to be nice.". Alex took my hand, holding it tightly but yet gently at the same time and kissed it. He placed my hand with his on his lap. "There is more to the situation Luna than meets the eye. But you need not worry about that for now.". I was curious as to what he meant, but I let it slide for now. Not wanting to spoil a perfect evening.
The car pulled up outside my apartment building. I looked the building over before feeling lightly embarassed about the state of the building I'm currently living in, compared the lavish evening I have just experienced. Alex gestures for me to hop out the car, he mentions something to Mason with Mason responding with sound "Yes, Master.". Alex follows me up the the door, I turn to him and he gestures again to continue walking. It's a quick elevator ride to my apartment floor and a short walk to the door. I fidget around for my key and realise I did not grab it before I left. Argh! Are you serious! Such a fool. I can't believe that I forgot them. Alex raises a finger to his mouth as if he's come up with an idea. All of a sudden he vanishes and I hear the door unlock on the otherwise. The door slowly opens and Alex is standing there, a devilish smirk strewn across his face. A swore my chin hit the floor. Ok, so that's how he got in to my apartment. "Sorry. Another one of my....ummm...many hidden talents". He chuckles to himself, moving aside so I may enter. I walk in, placing my items on my hallway table before kicking off my shoes and slumping in my armchair. I am absolutely exhausted and can feel my eyes getting weary. Alex not having a bar of me sleeping in the arm chair, picks me up and carries me to my bed, laying me softly of top of the quilted blanket. I snuggle into the bed, too tired to move and struggling to keep my eyes open. He brushes a curl off my face gently with his fingers and strokes my face as I fall asleep. I felt him lay something over me and I feel safe and warm as I begin to drift off into a deep sleep.
