A Stranger in the Night

Chapter 12

Alex's POV

KNOCK! KNOCK! KNOCK! The sound was deafening compared to the moment we had just shared. But the intrusion was welcomed as it distracted us from the slight disappointment I had just caused her. I gently placed my hand on her cheek, before brushing the hair away from her face. I turned and walked to the door, opening it partially to see who it was. "Good evening Master. I have brought the items for Miss Luna as you requested.". It was Nerine. One of my servant maids. She has been with us for some time now, but still as sweet as the day she first joined the House. When I first met her, she was gifted to me as a pet by my Father, but I don't like the thought of having a human here as a pet. She was kind hearted, loyal to the House and always taking care of the others that were brought in as pets or bloodbags. I was grateful that she was turned and since has shown an even deeper loyalty to the house. She handed me a basket with all the items I had requested, before bowing and stating that she would be back in the morning to care for Miss Luna.

I took the basket, thanked her, then shut the door. I turned to find Luna sitting on the edge of my bed, her legs dangling over the side. I could see she that she was still bothered from what happened before, but as I approached her with the basket, she looked up at me, a concerned look on her face. "Who was that and why are they looking after me in the morning?" She asked, seemingly disappointed. "That was Nerine. She is one of the Head Maids of the House and one of my own personal servant maids. She has brought some things for you that I asked for. In the morning, I have a meeting with my brothers that I must attend, so she will be here to help you with anything you need. That's if you want to stay here any longer than tonight.". She nodded her head and gently slid the basket closer to her.

She began pulling out the items from the basket, which included a toiletries bag, some clean clothes, a thick warm bathrobe and a cream coloured silken nightdress. She held it up to look at it in the light, and smiled. "OK.". She nodded. "Where can I get freshened up.". I took her hand and escorted her to the bathroom, which was just down a very short corridor beside the fireplace. I opened the bathroom door and let her enter in first. I could tell by the look on her face that she was blown away. She ran her hand over the black marble stone bench and sink before gliding over to the enormous bathtub situated infront of a roof to floor window. She then casually walked over to the shower and opened the door to look in. "This is huge, you could fit 10 people in here....It's almost as big as my apartment.". I chuckled and smiled back at her, noticing that she was feeling a little more settled. "I will leave you to freshen up, take as long as you need". As I exited and shut the door behind me, I could hear her giggling and gushing over the room. I smiled to myself and sighed, it was nice to feel her heart so happy.

With the smile still on my face, I headed over to my desk and sat down, eyeing the mountain of paper work and notes I had to work on. I begin looking over some papers and signing documents. My mind slips away into the menial task at hand, filled with figures and numbers, dates of meetings, signing of agreements and more. I must have been so consumed by it all, that when I felt a hand run across my shoulder, I almost jumped out of my chair. I spun my hair around to see her walking casually over to the bed. The silken nightdress hugging her curves and flowing to the ground as she walked. She must have felt my eyes burning into her form, as she asked, "Does it look ok?". A lump reached my throat. Words could not describe how beautiful she looked. I have never in my centuries of existence seen anything as beautiful as her. I choked slightly on my words. "It's perfect.". A smile graced her face as she sat gently on my bed before laying down and watching me. "What are you doing?". I could see her eyes getting tired and beginning to droop. "Just some paperwork, getting ready for the meeting with my brothers". She looked beautiful laying there on my bed. Like it was exactly where she was meant to be. "Oh....sounds boring" as she began to yawn. I let out a soft chuckle and stood to stretch out my back. I looked over to her and noticed she was almost asleep. The shadows from the fire danced on her face. I could not stop staring at her. My body ached and yearned to touch her. I needed to be close to her. I found myself climbing onto the bed next to her, sitting up with my back against the frame and legs down beside her. I gently stroked her hair, pushing it off her face and admiring rosey coloured cheeks. I marvelled at how utterly perfect she was. I watched her as she drifted off into sleep and contemplated slipping out of the bed and continuing my work, but right now, this is where I wanted to be.

I must have fallen asleep, as I woke up a few hours later, with her snuggling into me, her head resting on my shoulder and arm across my chest. My waking must have disturbed her slightly as she started to stir. I gently rubbed my fingers along her back and felt her settle back into sleep. I gently slid my arm out from under her head and tucked her in with the side of the blanket. I didn't want to leave the warmth of her embrace but I had work to do and had to be leaving shortly to meet my brothers. I began pottering around and finishing up the last of my work. I should really have a shower and wash her scent off me before I meet with my brothers. I am not ready to deal with their drama. I walk to my walkrobe and grab a maroon coloured button up shirt, long black coat and black dress pants. I head towards the bathroom, and turned on the shower. The cool water creates steam that floods the bathroom like a night fog as the water hits my back. Yes I know Vampires are meant to be cold blooded, but one of the side affects of my powers is heat and being around her made the heat in me rise higher. My energy and powers are heightened when I'm near her and for us Vampires, that is one of the ways we know we are with our eternal love. Mind you, I knew she was mine before I even met her.

As the cool water ran over my body, soaking me from head to toe, I reminisced back to the day when my Mother told me of Luna for the first time. I know I was quite young then, well young for a vampire. I think I may only have been a century old when she told me. My Mother had many natural talents and the gift of prophecy was just one of them. Mother and I had a special bond. She was as beautiful as she was kind but also had a nasty side should you piss her off. I always found it funny to watch, especially when my brothers stepped out of line. It had been some time since I had seen her but of all things my Mother and I ever discussed, the one that always stands out in my mind, was when she told me about Luna. She described her, even down to the colour of her eyes and hair. She said we were destined to be together and that our love was a huge step and change for our world. My Mother had never given a false prophecy before so I had no reason to doubt her, however Father did not approve of this what so ever, and made it his mission to find me a pure blood line vampire wife. We rarely saw eye to eye, Father and I, but there is no way I would let him take Luna away from me, now that I had found her and I would be dammed if him sending Meredith here would change that.

My thoughts rolled around to my meeting with my brothers in a few hours. I wonder if one of them could keep Meredith entertained when she arrived. I know Marco had had a thing for her, so maybe this could play to my favour. I would speak to him after the meeting tomorrow and get his help.
