Chapter 18
Finn
“No!” I shout. Or try to I suppose. My eyes feel so heavy, but I need to stay awake. They just knocked Thea out and are dragging her through the mirror. Dragging her. Like she’s a fucking a rubbish bag. “You’re going to regret this, Brighid.” I growl as she laughs stepping through the mirror.
“I doubt that.” She grins and then she’s gone. Thea is gone. Rowan is carrying me through the castle, Hali has run ahead to find Althea, but I don’t think I can stay awake much longer. I need to stay alive to save her, to bring her home.
She gave up everything to save me. Save me? Isn’t it supposed to be the other way around? That’s when I realised. She had told me she loved me, and I didn’t say it back.
“Stay with me, Finn. She will never forgive us if you die.” I let out a dry laugh. “Hang on for her, pal.”
We get to the courtyard, through the east exit of the castle, moving around the castle to where everyone is getting the help they need. I feel my eyes close for a minute before Hali slaps me, hard across the face.
“You idiot! You can’t die now. If you die, she dies!” I look at her with a confused look. Or what I think is one, I feel a little dizzy.
“What?” Rowan asks, just as confused as I am.
“I swear to Neptune, you men are so clueless. You’re fated! That’s why it was so easy to find her, why you can feel her pain, that’s why you dreamed about each other before ever meeting. Why you couldn’t keep your damn hands off each other for more than a minute. I swear, you really needed me to spell that out for you?” she asks, shaking me a little, which didn’t really help my dizziness. There is a pregnant pause where I assume myself and Rowan are staring at her agape. Then it all clicks into place.
“Oh shit.” Rowan says, dumbfounded. Oh, shit is definitely right pal. I imagine her now, alone and scared and there is nothing I can do to help her. Her beautiful big brown eyes scared and alone. Her face is the one I see when everything goes dark.
The end.
