A Drunken Decision Cynthia Chapter 71
Chapter 71
“Yolanda, why are you here?” Howard asked.
“I was worried about Hazel,” Yolanda frowned at Howard and muttered, “Hazel is at Lucas’s house, right?”
When Howard saw that his dream girl was so concerned, he felt instantly better. When his voice took on an unpleasant tone, his face clouded and he responded, “Yes! Why can’t she just call me?”
“That’s great!” Yolanda let out a huge breath of relief upon hearing this. “Don’t be angry with her. Give the little girl some respect in front of other people. Don’t make things difficult!”
“Mhm!” Howard nodded obediently and mumbled.
Yolanda was very satisfied with his response. She smiled and continued to walk into the house. “Come in and have a seat. I heard that Donald and Susan are back, I haven’t seen them since I came back!”
“I’ll go with you!” Howard said and hurriedly followed her.
Hazel, finally able to collect herself, turned back to see Yolanda and Howard entering the house. Her mood changed abruptly.
She didn’t think Howard’s odd behavior was unrelated to Yolanda.
“Hazel, you can’t be so irresponsible!” Walking towards Hazel, Yolanda curled the corners of her lips and murmured softly, “You’re an adult already, and yet you act like this. Do you have any idea how worried Howard was?”
Hazel saw her false grin. The resentment and rage she had suppressed since she was a child surfaced at this point.
She pushed Yolanda, who was trying to reach out to her, and yelled, “What I do is none of your business!”
A loud smack landed on her face as soon as she was done talking
Even though her cars were throbbing, Hazel didn’t seem to mind the pain at all. Her attention was drawn to Howard, who was holding Yolanda with a strong embrace.
He was very nervous about Yolanda. Like a single shove from Hazel was all it took to end her life.
Hazel couldn’t hold back a chuckle.
“Howard Underhill, what the hell is wrong with you?” Nonetheless, Elizabeth was one step behind. As soon as she laid eyes on Yolanda, she realized something was wrong. Howard’s hand had already connected with Hazel’s face by the time she reached for them.
Elizabeth felt that Howard was out of his mind. Did he think he could lay his hand on Hazel anytime he wanted? Was Hazel really as ignorant as he insisted she was?
Annabelle had gone to the kitchen to find something to eat. She didn’t expect things to develop to this extent in just a short period of time.
She dropped what she was doing and hurried to Hazel’s help. She saw the cracked corner of Hazel’s lips and the red, swollen cheek. The sight of Hazel’s tear–filled eyes and subsequent chuckle caused Annabelle’s heart to hurt so terribly that her eyes grew crimson,
Soon, Lucas heard the commotion and came down from upstairs. He frowned when he noticed there were tears in Annabelle’s eyes.
“Who mistreated you?” He reached out to wipe the tears from the corners of Annabelle’s eyes. Lucas sent a thoughtful glance in their direction, locusing on the people who stood across from him.
Annabelle was unable to express herself since she was so upset. She raised her finger and pointed at Howard.
“No! I…” Howard tried to explain himself.
But Yolanda cut in and said, “Lucas, this is a misunderstanding. Howard didn’t…
Lucas kicked Howard so hard that he went flying to the ground before Howard and Yolanda could complete their sentences.
Howard was knocked to the floor by a swift kick that caught him off guard. His whole face scrunched up in agony.
”
“Lucas!” Yolanda didn’t expect Lucas to throw such a big tantrum. She quickly knelt to check on Howard while giving Lucas a disapproving glance. Why would he do such a thing? Howard was the brother who grew up with him. How could Lucas hit his brother over a girl? Softly, Yolanda asked, “Howard, are you alright?”
Annabelle was equally taken aback by Lucas’s reaction. Her eyes looked like they were about to well up. There were tears in her eyes. Just now, she couldn’t even utter a sound. She was not bullied by Howard. Her new friend, Hazel, was the one Howard had mistreated.
Annabelle tugged at Lucas’s sleeve, wanting to explain.
Lucas glanced at her and patted her shoulder, telling her not to worry.
Hence, Annabelle kept quiet
Standing aside, Elizabeth was getting emotional at the scene. She wished she could get Lucas to kick Howard again.
He was a scumbag! He would be better off dead!
Chapter 71
She would’ve been blind to falling in love with him.
No way in the future that she would ever have feelings for him.
Scumbag!
However, as for Lucas, how could he only care for Annabelle, and totally forget about her, his own sister?
“Have you calmed down?” Lucas looked at Howard and asked in a low voice.
Howard didn’t look good, but he nodded.
“You come here bright and early, making a fuss and causing a scene, just so you can show that you’re a good and responsible brother?” Lucas asked
again.
Howard stood up with Yolanda’s help. Hearing this, he started to become defensive and said, “No, Lucas. This was her fault in the first place. She’s already an adult in her twenties. Before she goes somewhere, why can’t she…”
“I didn’t want to go to the party in the first place. You were the one who forced me to go! I didn’t want to attend that stupid party!” Hazel seemed to have reached her limit of putting up with Howard’s antics. She could not bear to go on like this any longer. Why did she have to be the one who always had to put up with it? Once she had gone home, she would definitely ask her parents to find a suitor for her. She didn’t want to live under the same roof as Howard. He wasn’t her brother, but Yolanda’s dog
Howard didn’t say anything. He recalled that he had indeed forced Hazel to come with him last night. After all, Yolanda had specially invited them. If she refused to come, wouldn’t she be disrespecting Yolanda?
No, since she had come, couldn’t she make a good performance out of it?
“Howard Underhill!” Seeing his dissatisfied expression, Lucas’s gaze turned colder. “Yesterday, I sent you a message to tell you that Annabelle has brought Hazel home with me!”
When Howard heard this, he freaked out. He didn’t look at his phone, because his battery had died last night. He had charged it and switched it back on and it was charged and turned on today. He didn’t have the habit of reading messages.
There were too many useless messages. He firmly believed that if it was something important, the person would definitely call him.
“I” Howard wanted to explain, but he didn’t know what to say.
“It’s my fault!” Yolanda quickly chimed in. “I forgot to tell the maid at home.”
“It’s indeed your fault!” Lucas’s gaze turned to her and said in a flat tone, “If you have people in your house as guests, you should at least make sure they’re well entertained even if you can’t make sure everything is perfect. Howard, you’ve entertained them well. You played cards with your friends, smoked cigarettes, and drank wine. You enjoyed the party very much. As for Hazel, how did you entertain her? You just left her alone? She didn’t even have someone to talk to, right?”
“L” Yolanda’s face turned pale. Clearly, she didn’t expect Lucas to criticize her so bluntly. She opened her mouth and tried to explain, “There were too many people at that time, L…” She was too busy at the time. There was no way she could make sure to fulfill every guest’s needs.
However, Lucas didn’t care about her explanation at all. His gaze was back at Howard again and mocked, “You threw Hazel away and only thought of looking for her at such an ungodly hour? You’re really a good brother, Howard!”
Howard remained silent at Lucas’s words.
