Chapter 22

LILY

The air is stiff with tension. I need to get Mason out of the car and off my back so I get on with my day, but the idea of locking l*ps with him doesn’t sound appealing at all… because it sounds way too appealing.

I bite my lower l*p and his eyes darken as they follow the movement.

“Can’t I do something else?”

“You want my co ck in your mouth again?” He deadpans.

I feel my cheeks heat at the obscene memories that flash through my mind and I quickly look away. His fingers trail my l*ps and shivers wrack my frame.

“You see, cara mia, I don’t mind f ucking this little mouth until you’re weak and limp beneath me, but I just don’t have the time right now. So I’ll settle for a k*ss instead. Come on, we haven’t got all day.”

No longer able to bear the suspense, I sink my fingers into his hair and slam my l*ps. against his before I lose my courage.

I expected it to be a quick, simple k*ss. I guess I must’ve forgotten who I’m dealing it.

The touch of his l*ps alone is enough to heat up my bloodstream and have my knees quaking. I’m about to lean back when he tightens his hands around me and deepens the

k*ss.

“You’re not going anywhere, Lily.” He growls against my l*ps. “Not until I’ve had my fill.”

I grip his shoulders, suddenly overcome with mind numbing sensations as he sweeps. his hot tongue into my mouth and proceeds to k*ss me senseless.

Beneath my thigh, I feel his erection slowly thicken and my heartbeat accelerates. Just when I’m certain that I won’t survive this, he pulls away and stares at me through half lidded, smoky blue eyes.

The only audible sounds in the car are that of my ragged breathing. His l*ps are lush. and wet from our coupling and I find myself wanting to lean in and have more… wanting to taste more.

“I would sit right here and k*ss you all day, princess, but duty calls.”

Without wasting anymore time, he gently pulls me off his lap and places me on the seat, then he steps out of the car and leans over me.

“Listen to Dimitri. Let him take everywhere you need to be today, and for g od’s sake woman, stop disobeying my orders.”

Then he slams the door in my face and marches off.

Seconds later, Dimitri gets into the car. I have no doubt that he witnessed at least half of what just happened. My cheeks redden furiously at the thought.

He doesn’t comment, though. He only asks,

“Where to?”

I clear my throat.

“The New York School of Journalism, please.

Minutes later, my phone buzzes and one of the strange texts I’ve been getting lately. pops up on my screen. This one says;

“Wanna know a secret? You’ve been playing tango with the enemy. Careful, snowball. Dancing too close to the fire might get you burnt soon.”

I read the text like ten times. Unable to understand it. I stow my phone away with at raging heartbeat.

It gets worse because the texts are from a private number and therefore cannot be traced. I’m hoping the source I’m going to meet today can help me figure it out, which is why I need Dimitri off my trail.

We finally arrive at the venue for my class and I hurriedly get off.

“Anywhere you need to be in particular after this class?” Dimitri calls after me.

I school my face into a serious expression.

“Um…no. Not particularly. I have a shift by five so you can come pick me up then.”

Those piercing eyes appraise me.

“And where will you be after the class?”

I roll my eyes.

“At the library. Reading. You don’t have to follow me everywhere while I’m in school, you know. I am perfectly capable of taking care of myself.”

Dimitri starts the car.

“Never said you weren’t.” Then he drives off.

I square my shoulders and step into the empty classroom. I love coming early so I can prepare sufficiently before the day’s lectures.

Throughout the duration of the class, I cannot concentrate. Thoughts of Marco and of course, the anonymous texter keeps me distracted.

Just then, speaking of the devil, my phone buzzes with an incoming text.

“I see you’re gradually becoming a submissive little lamb. I wish it was with me and not him. The things I would do to you….

My eyes nearly bug out of their sockets. I quickly shove the phone away and try to focus on the lecturer.

I’m getting to the bottom of this…today.

After class, I’m strolling on my way to meet my source when a car horn blares from behind me, nearly startling me out of my skin.

I turn around and my heart drops to my shoes when I see the SUV. Dimitri drives up and stops beside me.

“Good afternoon, Miss Carson. Where to?”

Okay. This is gradually becoming annoying. I tighten my fingers over the straps of my backpack.

“I’m going to the library to study before my shift. It’s a two minute walk. I don’t need a babysitter.”

Dimitri shrugs.

“I’m sorry but my job is to make sure you’re actually going to the library, miss Carson.” He alights from the vehicle and pulls the back door open.

“Please, get in. We do not want Mr. Marcelli getting involved in this. Do we?”

Anger shoots through my veins. I fold my arms and stare him down.

“Are you threatening me?”

His expression does not waver.

“Of course not, miss. I’m merely doing my job.”

“Well, you and your Mr. Marcelli can both go to hell. I need some air and I’m walking to

the da mn library.”

Knowing fully well that I’m playing with fire, but not particularly caring at that stomp past him on my way to my destination.

Point. I

Just before I go around the bend, I look over my shoulder and sight him speaking to someone on the phone. My veins ice over with dread but I force myself to continue on

my way.

I know I’m in trouble, but I’ll deal with Marco later.

“So, can you track it?”

Hanson Solkov, a Russian tech genius and one of my few friends toggles about my phone a bit before shooting me a look through his glasses..

“Is this the first text you got from this person?” He holds the phone up at me.

I scan through the text. It reads;

“I saw you today with tears in your eyes. I’d love to see you cry a different kind of tears though. When I shove my aching co ck down your throat.”

I shiver inwardly.

“Yes. That’s the one. I started getting these texts about two weeks ago.” Way before I met Marco and my life turned upside down.

“Mm-hm. Looks like you’ve got a stalker on your trail.”

“I know that, Hanson. Can you track the sender please?”

He adjusts his glasses.

“I don’t think I have the equipment for this. This number isn’t only private, it’s scrambled as well. The sender is trying hard to remain hidden.”

I can already feel the stirrings of disappointment.

“So what do I do?”

“Let’s keep in touch. I know a friend with the right tools I can use for this. Meet me next week. Same time, Same location.” He gets to his feet. “I have a class so I’ve gotta run. I’ll

talk to you lates

I step aside to let him pass, shocked when he drops a quick k*ss on my cheeks.

“Uh…thank you. Once again.”

Suddenly my right palm tingles the way it does when I feel like I’m being watched.

Sure enough when I scan the room, my nerves take a nosedive when I find Dimitri at the door, staring straight at me.

From every indication, he must’ve seen everything that happened…including the k*ss.

The innocent k*ss which Marco might interpret as something else.

“You’ve told him already haven’t you?” I ask for the umpteenth time as Dimitri drives me to work later that evening.

Strangely, after seeing him at the door, he just left. He didn’t say a word or try to drag me back to Marco…he just left.

Up until now, he still hasn’t uttered a single word, confirming my suspicions..

“You didn’t have to, you know.” I add, my hackles rising. “Hanson is just a friend and he’s helping me out with something.”

We arrive at the restaurant and Dimitri stops the car.

“May I know what this something is?”

“I…” I clamp my mouth shut before I say too much. Dimitri cannot know about the texts. He’ll snitch to Marco who will in turn make the whole thing difficult for me.

“It’s just homework.”

He spears me with a look through the rearview mirror.

“That’s a lie, Miss Carson. You know it. I know it. But just in case you’re not comfortable with telling me, I’m sure you’d love to explain the entire situation to Mr. Marcelli. I’ve already told him.”

My heart drops but Dimitri looks straight ahead, like he hasn’t just turned the entire world upside down now.

On a sudden burst of anger, I push open my door without waiting for his help and step down.

“You know what, Dimitri? You’re a snitch. Men are not supposed to be snitches.”

Then I heft my backpack over my shoulders and trudge into the bar, imagining what

my punishment will be this time.

It’s five minutes to twelve midnight when I finally retire to the back room to change out of my work uniform. If I’m quick enough, I’ll be able to make it back to Marco’s penthouse before I’m late.

I try to tell myself that I’m only rushing back to avoid punishments, but the tingling sensation between my thighs tells an entirely different story.

The crowd has been crazy tonight and more people still seem to be trooping into the bar. I know I’m exhausted, but at the same time, a strange, exhilarating energy thrums. through my bloodstream.

An energy I know has something to do with the hot-a s-s in, Italian man waiting for me.

I’m walking past the manager’s office when I hear my name.

“Lily. Do you have a second? I need a word with you.”

I curse beneath my breath. I hope this doesn’t take long. I walk into his office.

“Uh, sir? Can you please make this quick? I have a…thing.” With a very possessive man.

He takes off his glasses and gives me a serious look.

“I’m sorry, Lily, but I’m afraid you’ll have to cancel all your plans for at least the next few hours.”

I freeze, hoping to G od that he’s kidding.

“Wh-why? My shift is over.”

“I know that, but that crowd doesn’t seem to be thinning out anytime soon. We need

Ik more hands.”

Oh, this is bad. This is not good. This is f ucking horrible.

“But sir, this is so unfair. You didn’t bring any extra hands to help me on my shift. Why do I have to be the one who sacrifices to help someone else?”

The manager leans back in his seat with a shrug.

“I’m sorry, Lily, I wouldn’t ask if it wasn’t important. We’ll pay you extra for your hard work. It’s only for the next hour.”

My nerves are almost boiling over with rage but I try hard to control myself. Instead, I

clench my fingers and trudge back to the bar to continue serving.

My phone buzzes with Marco’s call twice during the hour and my stomach does backfl*ps, but I do not answer it.

I’m dead now. I just know it.

Luckily for me, the hour rolls by quickly. It finally clocks one AM and I pack up my stuff and shoot into the car before my manager manages to drag me back the second. time.

Immediately I step foot into the car, Dimitri says.

“The boss is not happy. Just thought you’d want to know.”

I try to gulp down the lump in my throat and snap at him instead.

“I know that, and I’m still not talking to you. I’d appreciate it if you didn’t talk to me either.”

Aside from his dry chuckle, the drive home is completely silent.

My nerves tumble and fray as Dimitri escorts me up the elevator when we arrive. He lets me in with a private key and disappears.

The house is completely silent. It looks like there’s no one here.

“Hello? Anyone home?” Silence. “Marco? Are you here?” Resounding silence.

Suddenly feeling downcast, I hang my head and trudge down to the room to get out of my sweaty work clothes and have a refreshing bath.

The house is still stone cold and silent when I come out n*ked and dripping from the shower twenty minutes later.

I’m clutching a towel against my n*ked chest when I hear.

“Welcome home, Lily. You’re late. Lose the towel.”
