Chapter 18
Knox
I had to go into the office for some in person interviews today, which already had me in a sour mood when I woke up and discovered that Navy was nowhere to be found. Clay nor Dover knew where she was either. This whole damn packhouse full of werewolves and no one knew where my mate was. It took me all of twenty minutes to sniff her out, but those were the most terrifying twenty minutes of my life.
Hearing my mate talk about her siren mate, Cameron, really set me and Alistair off. I knew it wasn’t fair to Navy to be in such a mood over the mention of his name, but I couldn’t help myself. That was the kryptonite to my self control. I was immediately pissed off when she said his name and had to remove myself from her presence before I said or did something I’d regret.
I had to do better. My mate has been here for a few days now and all we’ve talked about is her grandmother and the founding of my pack. I knew this was important to her and that she had made finding her lost family members a mission, but I needed to bring the focus back to us. I wanted her to feel at home here, which involved helping her solve the mystery of Quinton’s pack, but I also wanted her to stay because of her feelings for me. So far, there weren’t many feelings to be seen.
She lets me hold her hand and occasionally wrap my arm around her, but I can tell that she’s just content with the contact. She doesn’t initiate it nor return it. She was getting more comfortable speaking with me, so that was a plus. My mate was strong, confident, and outspoken so it was hard to tell if she was happy here or just putting on a brave face.
I knew it was time to put on my Alpha mate big boy pants and start wooing my girl. I needed to make her forget all about her siren mate and whatever potential they may or may not have together. I had to make her see that our mate bond and our future were so much more special.
I pulled into my office parking space with a new plan in mind. Once I got into my office, I would mindlink Clay and Dover, and start making plans for winning over my mate. I knew I had to do this the old fashion way, since she didn’t feel the mate bond like a werewolf. She needed to be wined and dined.
