Chapter THE BAUDELAIRE'S
Third Person Pov:
Bella took out her phone and called the twins, asking them to hang around outside the school gates. Then she called Hazel.
"Bella!" Hazel cooed the moment she picked up, and Bella tried to hold back her emotions.
Although Hazel had been under a spell, it still hurt to know she was part of the reason her life was falling apart.
"I know my mother doesn't want you guys here, but I'm bored, plus the triplets barely call. They're always busy with their finals, and it's as if they need me physically to act like my mate."
When Hazel heard this, she was skeptical at first, but considering the fact that the triplets barely called her, she assumed nothing serious was going on.
"I have a lot to tell you, and can you imagine my mother moved me out of your room? When were you going to tell me?" Bella's voice rose in pitch. "This woman is getting on my nerves, and I've got a lot to get off my chest!"
This piqued Hazel's interest immediately. She knew this could get Fae whatever she wanted, and since her job was to gather information on Bella, what better way than to get it straight from the source?
"Okay, I'll be right there. Do I need to-"
"My clothes will fit, and there's plenty of food, so don't worry," Bella cut her off, ending the call and turning to Halle, who had a worried expression on her face.
Hazel, on the other hand, got dressed and made her way out of the school gate where the triplets were waiting in a car. As she walked toward a taxi, Finn stepped out, tossed her over his shoulder, and shoved her into the car.
"Let go of me!" she yelled, pounding on his body, but the doors were shut, and Ryder sped down the highroad, making it impossible for her to even consider jumping out. "I'm going to call your father and tell him how you've kidnapped me."
Finn, who was struggling to keep her still, stopped, letting her catch her breath.
"Hazel, we're trying to help you, and-"
"I don't need your help!" she snapped, reaching for her phone, but Kai, sitting in the front seat, turned and snatched it from her.
"Give me that!" she lunged toward the front, but Finn wrapped his arms around her waist, pulling her back to his chest.
He had tried to be gentle, but Hazel had more energy than he expected. He kept her locked against him, and she stayed there, powerless against his strength.
They called Bella immediately.
"We have her, and we're almost there." When they said this, Bella hung up and turned to Halle.
"They're almost here. We need to act now."
Halle nodded and opened her bag, pulling out her spell book. The pages flipped as her hands hovered above it, and she began chanting a spell, the already darkening night sky growing even more intense.
"Are
you sure this isn't going to affect me?" Bella asked, making Halle pause, glancing at her with wrinkled brows. "You're in the same room as me. Don't interrupt my spell again!"
Bella pressed her lips together, using her thumb and index finger to mimic zipping her mouth, causing Halle to hiss before continuing her spell.
Meanwhile, Evelyn was in Fred's bedroom, snuggled up against his chest while he read a paper.
"I feel like she hates me even more now," Evelyn sighed, and Fred set his paper down, turning to face her.
"You worry too much. Look at you-it's wearing you down. You've barely slept for days. You need to go to bed right away," he said, kissing her forehead. They yawned simultaneously.
"You're right, and I do feel a little..." Before she could finish, they both fell into a deep sleep.
Halle snapped her spell book shut, turning to Bella. "It's done."
At that moment, Bella's phone rang again-it was Kai.
"We're at the gate."
Bella and Halle rushed out of the room. As they made their way downstairs, they saw the servants scattered around, all in a deep sleep in various positions. Bella chuckled.
"I wish I were a witch. Hazel's lucky," she said, but Halle remained silent.
"What did you mean when you said the Baudelaire's had hidden it from her?" she asked, looking at Halle who stayed quiet for a moment with her head held straight as they made their way towards the front door.
She didn't like that Bella had so many questions, but Bella was right. If she had a part to play in the future, she needed to know everything, because the parents in their generation were scared of schooling their children.
"I'm not a Baudelaire." Her words sent a chill down Bella's spine.
"The Baudelaire's have always had witches, but not very powerful ones. The name Baudelaire was coined recently for our entire family because my mother, Karen, married a Baudelaire. Her family has the lineage of powerful witches, not werewolves. But she married Hazel's grandfather, who was an ordinary werewolf, and his family took control of everything. Her lineage had always been mostly female witches, often married to vampires, and many of them were wiped out during the war. Karen was over a hundred years old when she died, and she only became friends with Theresa when she was about sixty, and Theresa was a quarter of her age. Karen was also older than Hazel's grandfather by about forty years-he was Theresa's agemate. I'm older than both of them."
When she said this, Bella stared at her in shock. "I'm over a hundred years old, and the age gap between Theresa and me is about twenty. But you need to know, I'm Karen Baudelaire's first child. My father was a vampire, and my mother and I witnessed the great war over a century ago. She's known as the greatest witch because of all she did as a child. I inherited my father's youth, but not his powers-I'm a witch, aging slowly. I knew Hazel was a witch when she was born, but Karen was dead, and I wasn't allowed to see or touch her after she became a toddler. They wanted her to grow up as a normal werewolf, believing being a witch would ruin her life. After I heard of my half-brother's death, I tried to reach Hazel, but her mother's family took her."
They had gotten to the gate by now, so she stopped speaking.
As soon as they opened the gate, the triplets drove in.
Hazel stepped out of the car when it stopped, but before she could move, Halle muttered a word, causing Hazel to fall to the ground, struggling to stand as she lost control of her legs.
