#2 When the Moon Turns Red

Chapter 56

Noah

“I feel like it says something about our chances of being decent parents if we can’t even pick out a pregnancy test.” Evie groaned, staring at the wall of tests. I just started grabbing boxes, dropping them in the basket I was holding.

“Let’s just get one of each so we’re sure.” I said. Evie laughed at me,

“That’s overkill, Noah.”

“Welcome to what I’m going to be like as a father.” I teased. Evie rolled her eyes at me. We quickly checked out and drove back home.

Evie was bouncing up and down as we rode the elevator up to our floor. She was so nervous it was adorable. I was nervous, too. I wanted more than anything to be with Evie and have pups with her. But, I also wanted more time with just us. Everything Evie and I did was unexpected, so it made sense that this would be the same way.

Evie gripped the grocery bag full of tests and walked towards the bathroom.

“Baby, wait.” I grabbed her hand and pulled her back towards me. I took the bag from her hand and sat it down on the bed.

“Before we find out, I need to do something. I don’t want you to think I’m only doing this because you’re pregnant. I’ve wanted to do this from day one. I knew from the moment I found out you were human this was something I wanted for us.” I was talking quickly as my nerves started to get the best of me.

Evie was staring at me like I was insane. I took her left hand in mine and dropped down to one knee. Evie gasped and covered her mouth with her free hand. I pulled a velvet box out of my pocket and opened it up in front of her. Inside was an oval ruby ring circled with diamonds.

“Everleigh, I love you more than life itself. From the moment I laid eyes on you at the bonfire, I knew you were the one for me. We’ve gone through a lifetime of emotions and challenges in the last month and it’s only brought us closer together. You have gone through so many changes and overcome so much, proving your strength and grace,

“I know you’re exactly right for me and exactly right for this pack. I want to spend the rest of my life with you, standing by your side and supporting you as Alpha and Luna, and husband and wife. Everleigh, my beautiful, amazing, little mate, will you marry me?” I poured my heart out to this petite, tiny little human standing in front of me. I was on my knees, pledging myself to her for forever. Remi was her puppy and I was hers completely.

Evie stared at me in awe, her hand hovering over her mouth and tears swimming in her bright doe eyes. An agonizing silence stretched out between us. Finally, Evie seemed to come alive, a huge smile spreading across her face.

“Yes, yes!” She squealed, throwing her arms around my neck. I stood up, taking Evie with me as I swung her around our bedroom. I pulled her away to slip the ring on her finger.

“It’s beautiful, Noah, I love it so much and I love you.” She was crying happy tears as she looked into my eyes in pure bliss.

“I love you, baby.” I pressed her lips to mine and relished in her taste. I took a deep breath and sighed as her scent, leather bound books and chocolate, consumed me.

“Should we find out if we’re going to be parents?” I asked her, nuzzling my face in her neck. She nodded, biting her lip.

She picked up the grocery bag and disappeared in the bathroom. She wanted privacy to take her tests and I couldn’t argue with her wishes. After about twenty minutes, she came out with a handful of sticks. Some of them had lines on them that I didn’t understand, but most of them had one word written clearly across the screen: pregnant.

“We’re having a baby?” I asked.

“We’re having a baby.” She confirmed. A nervous but excited smile lit up her eyes. I crushed her to me again, completely overwhelmed with joy and love for my fiance and unborn baby.
