Chapter 74
Chapter 74
Zayn was neatly difven to madness. He seethed, "Do you have any idea what this will do to Nadine's reputation? It word of this gets out, her career will be ruined!
Josephine steered at Zayn's outraged expression. "I don't think I did anything wrong. I called the cops on Nadine because she committed a theft and tried to frame me for it. It's only right that i have her punished under the law." "Theft?" Zayn repeated, frowning. "It was only a pair of shoes! Thompson's shoes aren't worth that much!"
Josephine shoved him away and said icily, "First of all, Thompson's limited edition shoes are costly and extremely coveted. Secondly, this isn't just about the shoes she stole
She humiliated me and Winnie at the dinner party the other night when she deliberately presented the wrong shoes to everyone! You were there. You saw what she did, too!"
The anger on Zayn's features vanished slightly when he heard this. "It was wrong of Nadine to do that, I agree. I'll talk to her about it and make sure she doesn't do
"But couldn't you have let this incident slide or taken care of it
it privately? Why did you have to call the cops? It'll only ruin Nadine's career!"
Josephine chuckled. "oh, that's right. I am actively trying to ruin her career. Thank goodness you noticed that. I was afraid my effort would have gone to waste, but your panic has reassured me!"
"Josephine" zam growled. Fine, I'll get Thompson to design ten pairs of shoes for you and make Nadine apologize to you on her knees. How about it? Let her off the book fast this once and withdraw the police report.
"Tell the cops you were messing around with Nadine because that's what you and your girlfriends do. Do we have a deal?"
Who in their right mind would involve the cops in their horsefoolery anyway? Josephine thought Zayn must be an idiot if he could come up with such a nonsensical excuse at his age.
Arguing with him would give her an aneurysm. She rolled her eyes and made to return to the office to continue her statement. However, Zayn gripped her wrist and stopped her from leaving
"What will it take for you to drop the charges against Nadine?" he hissed.
"Nothing," Josephine answered. "she will pay for what she did."
With that, she shook off his grip and returned to the office. She stopped before the door and was about to open it when Zayn's voice rang out behind her. "I agree to the divorce!!
Josephine halted as he continued grim, "You've been asking Mr. Brown to bug me about the divorce papers, right? I'll sign them if you drop the charges against
Josephine stiffened upon hearing this, and her fingers tightened on the doorknob until her knuckles tumed white. Zayn had beaten up William to avoid having to sign the divorce papers, and now, he agreed to sign them if it meant saving Nadine from being arrested. She thought he had already hurt her so thoroughly before that she wouldn't be wounded by him anymore, yet her heart felt like it had been stabbed. The pain shot through her and threatened to suffocate her. She thought her body was shutting down
Slowly, she tumed to face Zayn. She swept her gaze over the man she had loved for the last three years, a million words ready to tumble off her tongue. But she couldn't get them out.
In the end, Josephine simply said, "Fine. As long as you sign the divorce papers, I'll drop the charges against Nadine. I'll call Mr. Brown right now."
Her throat felt scratchy, and she felt a cough coming. She stalked to one side of the room and coughed as quietly as possible, her hand covering her mouth.
William picked up after the first or second ring, and Josephine informed softly, "Mr. Brown, could you bring the divorce papers to the location I sent you? Zayn has agreed to sign them
"What? Really? I'm on my way! William exclaimed.
When she hung up, she clutched her phone to her chest as if it was the only thing that kept her standing-
