When I Stopped Loving I Stopped Crying by Edward

Affair

Chapter 5

Late that night, I received a call from him.

“It’s so late. Why aren’t you going home?”

I worked overtime and stayed in the dormitory.”

“Are you busy recently?”

“Yeah.”

“When you be done? I’ll pick you up and take you home.”

“I’m not sure yet. I’ll

let you know.”

We fell into a long silence.

“Yasmine, the video from the tour isn’t real. I haven’t made any official

announcement.”

In truth, he and Lily had long been rumored to be having an affair, but he never made any official promises to me.

“Why do you always distrust others, Yasmine!”

It was the first time he drew a clear line between himself and Lily, but I didn’t feel moved at all.

“Yeah, I see. Is there anything else?”

“No.”

After hanging up, I fell asleep.

A few days later, Chandler couldn’t help but message me.

“Are you going home tonight?”

“No.”

“Shall we have dinner together tonight?”

My workplace was in a remote area, with few good restaurants and even fewer people

around.

While I hesitated, he sent another message.

“It’s okay if we don’t eat. Let’s meet and talk.”

Indeed, the project preparations were nearing completion, and I finally had to bid. formal farewell.

“Can you send me your workplace address?”

Throughout our years together, he had never offered to pick me up or drop me off, nor had he shown any interest in where I worked.

“Yasmine, we’re adults and should have our own space and freedom. Can you please stop bringing up work when you get home?”

From then on, I never mentioned work–related matters to him again.

Yet, he knew exactly where Lily worked, her boss’s name, and even took the initiative to greet Lily’s workplace leader.

I gave him the address of a park near my office.

The first thing he said when we met was, “Yasmine, I didn’t realize your workplace was so far from home.”

True, his home was on the opposite diagonal of the city from my workplace.

Despite the over two–hour journey each way, I endured it just to see him every day. “Why don’t you let me come directly to your office?”
