Chapter hand 596
Chapter 0596
The warmth from the warm water seeped through the glass and Into Miranda’s palms, but it didn’t compare to the warmth she felt on her waist earlier.
Suddenly, there was a series of knocks on her door.
“Who is it?” she asked as she went over to open the door.
Paul stood outside. “Here’s your shoe.”
Miranda was stunned. He had actually gone and retrieved the shoe that the dog had run off with.
“Thank you, Dr. Jefferson.”
“It’s no trouble at all.”

Miranda took a nap in the afternoon. She got up around 2:00 pm and went to the lab.
When she arrived, Sebastian was there, but Madison was nowhere to be found.
“Oh, she went to buy some drinks,” Sebastian explained.
Just as he spoke, Madison returned with some lattes. Of course, she had got one for Miranda too.
The lab was still the same as before. In the area farthest from the lab bench, they had cleared out a small space where they could eat, drink, and store snacks or beverages.
Miranda was surprised when Sebastian willingly took a cup of latte from Madison. He used to refuse whenever Madison offered him one back then.
On the rare occasion when he did drink, it was only because Madison forced him too. He would choose. the smallest cup with zero sugar and still leave more than half unfinished.
But this time…
Madison asked, “Seb, how is it? Do you like the new flavor?”
“Yeah.”
“Next time, you should try the one I’m drinking. It’s really good too.”
“Okay.”
Miranda turned to look out the window. Oh, there was no sun today. She couldn’t tell if the sun had risen from the east or from the west.
The three of them stayed in the lab until evening. As night began to fall, Madison and Sebastian got ready to leave.
“Miranda, aren’t you going to leave?”
“I’m just wrapping things up. I’ll leave when I’m done.”
“Don’t stay back too late.”

“Alright.
At 7:00 pm, Miranda cleared the lab bench and locked up the lab before leaving. The sky was completely dark, and the street lights cast a dim glow.
A cold wind blew past. Miranda instinctively pulled her scarf tighter around her neck and stuck her hands deep into her winter jacket.
From a distance, she looked like a walking puffball.
“Miranda,” someone called her from behind.
Miranda turned in surprise and delight. “Dr. Jefferson, what are you doing here?”
“Just doing some errands.”
The awkward scene from that morning resurfaced in her mind. Miranda’s gaze flickered as she felt a little embarrassed.
However, Paul seemed unfazed. His gaze was steady as he looked at her directly. “Have you had dinner?”
Miranda shook her head.
“Neither have I. Shall we go together?”
Before she could agree, her phone rang at that moment. Miranda answered, “Hello?”
“Where are you?” It was Sam.
Miranda was confused. “What’s the matter?”
“Did
you forget about our weekly meeting? We agreed on the time a few days ago. Don’t tell me you’ve forgotten?” he said.
Miranda didn’t respond. She really did forget.
She looked up at Paul, her eyes apologetic. “Dr. Jefferson, I’ve got other plans. I might not be able to…”
“Is it Mr. Cooper?” Paul’s smile didn’t falter as he spoke.
“Yes.”
On the other end, Sam also heard Paul’s voice. Pausing for a moment, he tried to sound nonchalant as he said, “Is Paul with you?”
Miranda nodded. “Yes, we just happened to run into each other.”
“Since you’ve met up, why don’t we have dinner together? We can discuss our business while he eats his dinner.” Sam swore he was just being polite, especially since he added that last part of the sentence. Anyone with a bit of common sense would know not to take him up on the offer. However, Paul replied with a smile, “Sure, I can’t refuse it since Mr. Cooper invited me. Let’s go, Miranda. Where are you meeting?”
Sam was at a loss for words. Sometimes, he just really wanted to slap himself!
