Chapter 106
Kaley's lips were trembling, "Brett, are you doubting me?"
Brett's eyes darkened, hesitating for a moment before saying, "Kaley, you know I like people who behave and obey, and I hate deception."
He firmly grasped Kaley's chin, forcing her to tilt her head back. Her face was pale, and it's unclear whether it was due to fear or pain. She tried to stay calm, but under Brett's sharp gaze, she started feeling guilty, her eyes flickering.
Brett saw Kaley's face clearly, gritting his teeth and letting out a cold snort.
Kaley shivered at the sound, her legs trembling badly.
Brett had begun to doubt her. It might not be long before he found out that she deliberately fell down the stairs to frame Izabella.
Kaley didn't know how to dispel Brett's suspicions. The more she said, the more mistakes she would make. Brett hated being deceived by others the most.
"Kaley, was I not good enough for you?"
Kaley shook her head, crying.
In the past, when Kaley cried, he would feel heartbroken. But now, seeing it only disgusted him. People are like that. Once deceived by someone they trust, many things that happened in the past would be brought up, and some previously overlooked details would become more and more chilling.
Feeling like he had touched something dirty, Brett pushed Kaley away with force.
Kaley had just had blood drawn today and was weak. On top of that, Brett used his full strength, pushing her backwards onto the bed. She hit the edge of the bed hard and her face crumpled with pain. Kaley clutched the painful spot, her breathing unsteady. She hadn't expected Brett would turn on her, even after he had just been gently coaxing her, saying he would marry her in a year and let her raise Izabella's child.
"Kaley, I can tolerate your willfulness, but you shouldn't have used me to hurt Izabella." The thought of Izabella's breakdown and cries on the bed made his heart ache.
Kaley's throat tightened, her face turned cold, and her body slumped down from the bed.
Seeing Brett leaving, Kaley crawled over, grabbing his leg. "Brett, don't leave me. I was wrong. I shouldn't have accused Izabella. It's just that I love you too much, and I'm afraid you'll leave me, afraid you won' marry me. Brett, I was really wrong. I won't do it again..." By the end, she was sobbing uncontrollably, left with nothing but frantic choking sounds.
She looked up, her eyes red and watery, gripping him like a lifeline.
"Brett, we've been through so much over the years. I even saved your life once. Are you really going to be so heartless?"
She framed Izabella out of a lack of security, and the person who made her feel insecure was Brett. If he hadn't broken his promises, taken her for granted, and refused to divorce Izabella, why would she have attacked Izabella?
To put it bluntly, she did all this for him!
Brett looked down at her, his eyes momentarily lost in thought.
Kaley's words stirred up many memories in him. She was undoubtedly someone he loved, and he remembered how she saved him at the risk of her own life when he almost drowned six years ago. These memories made it impossible for him to abandon Kaley, but he just couldn't face her right now - it made him nauseous.
Brett squatted down, looking down at her. "You should move out. Go back to where you were staying before."
Kaley's heart clenched, her tearful eyes still fixed on him. "What about you?"
"I'm still married to Izabella. That place is our joint property." Brett met Kaley's incredulous gaze, wiping the tears from her eyes. "I will fulfill my promises to you. I will marry you."
Brett saw a glimmer of happiness in Kaley's eyes.
He stood up straight. "But first, you have to behave."
