The Reborn Wife Strikes Back ( Gordon Holmes’ )

Chapter 92

Chapter 92

“I’m fine either way. I just want things to be convenient for you. I can take a step back if you find your true love.”

I shrugged, pretending to be generous.

It was apparent that Gordon was dissatisfied with my answer.

He said coldly, “Taylor, marriage isn’t a game. Don’t say these things so casually. It’s bad

luck.”

I was surprised to hear Gordon say something like that.

Our roles now were completely reversed. He used to be the one who mentioned divorce frequently, and he would tell me to get lost all the time. Now, I would only mention it occasionally, and he’d appear unhappy about it.

“The view here is pretty nice.”

I changed the subject and turned to admire the beautiful moonlit view at Starlight Cove.

We were currently on the roof of Sobrough Tower. There were swathes of grass and lush green plants, and there was even a crescent–shaped pond that glimmered with a silver light. It looked magical.

There weren’t many tables, and every table was separated by a flimsy white veil. Tiny lights dotted around the place, resembling fireflies, which glowed with a yellow–green light. It

was very romantic.

Gordon raised his head and looked around.

Then he said softly, “If you like it, I can take you to even more unique restaurants.”

His voice was tentative as if calling a truce. He seemed to really want to live a happy and peaceful life with me. I could feel it.

However, after all I’d experienced in my previous life, I now found it very hard to believe in tomorrow. Being together with someone for a long time seemed out of the question.

“Alright,” I answered carelessly and continued to try the delicious food on my plate.

Gordon placed a piece of truffle in my bowl and said, “There’ll be a group of foreign VIPS visiting Holmes Group from Aribia next week. They’ll be doing an inspection, so we have to make sure that everything is perfect for their visit. Can you make some time to entertain them with me?”

An inspection team from Arila?

The wheels in my head began turning. I vaguely remembered a similar incident in my past

life.

When the inspection team had come to Holmes Group, I had really wanted to accompany Gordon, but he had refused flat out. He had even specially asked Nora to accompany him, which resulted in the media publishing several pieces about his scandal with her.

The collaboration had been successful, but consequently, my in–laws summoned me to Cedar Apartment, where they lived. They had rebuked me harshly, saying that although I had been married for two years, I did not know how to behave as Gordon’s wife at all. They reprimanded me for not attending such a big event with Gordon and allowing an actress to garner all the attention.

I remembered how harshly I had been criticized by my in–laws that night.

From that night onward, my in–laws‘ dissatisfaction with me grew rapidly, especially since there had been no development in my attempts at pregnancy. They could no longer hide their distaste for me, and Hazel had even called my mother and demanded to know how they had raised me and why I had no idea how to behave properly.

The storm of criticism I had received was still fresh in my mind.

I’d become even more insecure as a result. I had really felt useless. Other people married into prominent families to support their husbands and raise their children. No matter what things were like below the surface, they could still look like they were in love.

On the other hand, I couldn’t even hold on to Gordon’s sleeve. I could only watch him get into scandals with other women. There was nothing I could do.

I hadn’t tried any particular strategies in this life, but Gordon was requesting that I entertain these VIPS of his own accord.

I couldn’t help but feel excited. At the same time, I realized something profound.

Many things in life were like sand. The more you tried to hold on to them, the more it would slip away. It would be better to toss it away, because then it would accumulate and become a

tower.
