Chapter 10
I opened my eyes to a very bright light. I groaned putting my hands over my eyes. Where am I? What happened? Where is everyone? Oh my god the fight!
I shot up looking around the room, realizing I was in some kind of hospital bed. Just then a lady walked in with a clipboard.
“Hello Ashley, nice to see you’re finally awake. I’m Jade, Dylan’s mom.” She said holding her hand out to me.
“Uh Hi.” I couldn’t help but feel a little shy around her as I shook her hand. She’s my mate mother for crying out loud. Possibly my future mother in law. Our first meeting should not be me in a hospital bed.
“Dylan was right, you are a gorgeous one. I’m going to step out for a minute, I’ll be right back.” I blushed at her statement about what Dylan said. I should have asked her where he was. Speaking of Dylan, he walked in the room just as she was walking out, looking tired and worn out, his arm was bandaged.
“Hey Ashley, how are you?” He asked sitting at the end of my bed. He seemed to be fine minus the bandage, that’s a relief.
“I’m fine, how are you? It looks like you haven’t slept in a while.” I ran my finger over the bags under his eyes, ignoring the shocks from touching my mate.
“I’m ok, I was too busy thinking about you.” He sighed closing his eyes as if he was in pain.
“Dylan?” I bit my lip nervously as I prepared to ask my next question, not sure how he’ll react.
“Yes?”
“Can I kiss you?” His eyes widened.
“Are you sure?” He asked to confirm my request. As I sat there staring at Dylan and worrying about him I couldn’t help but wonder what it felt like to kiss him. So that’s why I asked him at such a random time. Better now than never right? I nodded giving him permission to kiss me.
Slowly he started leaning in. I waited for our lips to meet and let out a sigh in pleasure when they finally did. He tasted like mint chocolate ice cream. I wrapped my arms around his neck as I kissed him back. He licked my bottom lip asking for entrance and I happily granted him access. As he explored my mouth he gripped my hips and maneuvered me on his lap until I was straddling him. I blushed at the new position, and that’s when his mom chose that exact moment to reenter.
“Hey you two break it up.” I heard Jade say, amusement clear in her voice. I flew off Dylan feeling my cheeks heat up even more. I probably looked like a sun burnt tomato. Dylan just laughed and so did Jade. Did he think this was funny that we just got caught making out? By his mother!? What would she think of me now?
“Ashley it’s ok mates kiss all the time.” She commented trying to make the situation better, but only making it worse. I didn’t even know she knew we were mates. She probably thinks I was trying to complete the mating process!
“Mom you’re only making it worse.” Dylan told her, but I could still see the amusement on his face.
“Oh hush boy, no I’m not.” It was quiet as Jade checked a few things before leaving the room once again. I debated on getting up and locking the door, so Dylan and I can finish making out. But I had other matters to address. I hate to ask Dylan this question, but I needed to know.
“Where’s Blake?” As soon as I asked that he stiffened.
“He’s in the waiting room.” I could tell I upset him, but Blake is my mate also I can’t help it.
“Ok can you tell me what happened?”
“You did something really dumb.” He said trying to smile but failing.
“What did I do?” I asked. Still a little lost about why I’m here.
“Blake and I had a fight and you jumped in the middle of it, Blake accidentally swiped you with his claw. But thanks to your werewolf it healed fast. If you were human, you would have bled to death. ” By the end of his speech I could tell he was getting angry just thinking about what happened.
“Oh.” Was all I said. I mean I don’t know if it’s more my fault that I’m here or my mates.
“Yes, and Ashley I’m sorry.” He said grabbing my hands.
“It’s ok Dylan I don’t really remember anything.” I told him, trying hard to remember what happened. Just as I thought I had some stuff together the room door opened, and Blake walked in. I looked at him and smiled.
“Hey Blake.” I said as soon as he got closer to the bed. He bent down and gave me a hug. Dylan got up and moved to the chair nearby.
“I was so worried about you.” He whispered in my ear. I was shocked cause Blake rarely showed emotion.
“I’m fine.” I told him with a smile.
“Well that was really stupid of you to jump in the fight.” He said to me, his voice tight.
I sighed, here we go with the speech. “I know.”
“No, you don’t, cause if you did you would have never done that.” His voice had started rising during the middle of his little rant. That’s when Dylan decided to step in.
“Calm down man she’s been through enough already.” He told Blake.
“Why don’t you mind your own business? I’m talking to my mate.” Blake scowled at Dylan.
“In case you’ve forgotten she’s my mate too.” Dylan rolled his eyes.
“You both need to calm down.” I said, mostly looking at Blake. Blake sat down in the nearest chair and grabbed my hand.
“I’m glad you’re ok.” He said smiling now. He can be bipolar sometimes.
“So am I.” I agreed, reaching for my orange juice that Jade had left me. We sat and chatted, while Dylan sulked in a corner. Eventually Jade came and made them both leave. Saying I needed to get some rest so that I can finish healing.
