Chapter 108 Love Game
But now, since Charles had fallen in love with Nancy, it was impossible for him to accept Dorothy.
"Did your daddy agree to this?" Jay asked again.
"I don't know about that. I can't find daddy, so I came here to find you. Uncle Jay, will you take me to Daddy and Mommy?" Bobby requested. "Sure," Jay responded.
"Shit, what happened?" Doris burst into curses. "Since Nancy met Charles, there are more and more annoying things happening around."
"There are a lot of things in this life that we are blessed with, but only as long as we are alive. The interesting people take it as their joy, and the boring people take it as their trouble," said Jay, holding the little girl in his arms.
"Boring? Who's boring?" His words infuriated Doris again.
"Come on. Let's go." Jay didn't bother to answer. He took Nadia's and Bobby's hands and was about to leave.
"What do you mean? How can you leave me alone now? I'm going with you, too. Nancy is my best friend." Doris followed him.
Jay smiled quietly.
'Alas, womankind is a strange species.
When a man takes the initiative to pursue his favorite woman, she always ignores him for one or the other reason.
But when he is about to give up, she is reluctant to let him leave!'
At the thought of this, he suddenly felt enlightened.
Was she playing hard to get? Or was it a test for him?
On their way, Jay talked to Bobby and Nadia but ignored Doris.
He behaved as if she didn't exist.
"Jay, is Dorothy a fool? Charles doesn't like her at all. Doesn't she understand that?"
But Jay didn't say a word.
"Jay, do you think Charles loves Nancy? Otherwise, why would he help Nancy so much?"
Again, Jay just maintained his silence.
"Daddy loves Mommy. I can see it!" Nadia said obediently.
Precisely at that moment, Jay almost burst into laughter.
"Nadia, I think what you said is right!" Bobby agreed.
Feeling insulted in front of the kids, Doris finally roared, "Are you deaf, Jay? Why don't you answer me all the way?"
However, there was no change in Jay's behavior. He didn't say a word.
"Godfather, didn't you hear her?" Nadia asked, tilting her head.
"I don't think what you asked is meaningful. If you are really interested, go ask Charles in person. I don't know.
"You..." This man's attitude changed so fast.
She then turned her head away and remained silent.
A complacent smile crept into his eyes. He had a sense of satisfaction.
Love, to put it bluntly, was a game of pursuing.
The one who ran faster has always the edge.
He was determined to change the passive situation in his favor.
They arrived at the sanatorium soon.
He was quite familiar with this place. He walked in front with the two lovely kids, and Doris quietly followed behind him.
It had been a rare chance for Charles and Nancy to be so intimate with each other.
Just when they were enjoying their intimate time with each other, they suddenly heard a soft voice from outside.
"Do you know what Mommy and Daddy would be doing now?" It was Nadia's voice.
In a hurry, Nancy pushed Charles away. As she was panicked, she forgot that his legs were injured.
Although she only used a little strength to push him, he lost his balance and almost fell down because of his leg.
When she saw this, Nancy hurriedly helped him up. But, Charles still was out of balance and fell into her arms. "Wow, Mommy is holding Daddy," Bobby said in an exaggerated way.
"Mommy, I also want a hug," Nadia said jealously.
"Well, since the kids are here, you two shouldn't be so intimate anymore," Doris jeered.
"No, we are not. I just gave him a hand to help him stand up. Don't make blind and disorderly conjectures, Doris!" Nancy complained with a blush.
Nadia held Nancy's legs and raised her head. "Mommy, Bobby said that someone else wanted to marry Daddy."
"What?" Charles burst into laughter.
"It's none of my business," Nancy said calmly.
As for the intimacy between them just now, well, it was just a short indulgence.
Not everything needed an oath.
"Bobby, tell me what's going on?" Charles had a bad feeling as he was aware that Bobby wouldn't come here without a reason.
Jay clapped his hands and raised his voice. "Charles, let me tell you. That's for today. Drew, Dorothy's father, had been to your home to talk about you and Dorothy. It seems that your mother has agreed to the marriage. They want to pick a date for your engagement."
Charles' face immediately darkened. "My mother is not the one calling the shots. It's about me. How can she take decision about my life?"
"Don't ask us about it. It's up to you and your mother," Jay said with a smile, shrugging his shoulders.
If Charles decided to insist upon one thing, no one could change his mind, including his family.
He pinched his eyebrow and thought for a while. Then he looked at Nancy and said, "Nancy, I'm going to be engaged to you!"
"What?"
All the people in the room were shocked with their mouths wide open.
"Great, Daddy!"
"I love you so much, Daddy!"
Then, applause followed.
"Charles, what are you talking about? We can't. What's more, your mother will not agree with this. For God's sake, could you please stop making trouble out of nothing?" Nancy was clear. In order to ward off the relationship between Nancy and Charles, Angelina even took Nancy as her sworn daughter.
Now, if Charles insisted on getting engaged to her, his mother would hate her to the core.
In her mind, Angelina stubbornly believed that it was Nancy who had stolen Charles' heart.
"Well, that's it. That's my decision. You have no choice!" Charles said arrogantly.
"Nancy, why are you being so silly? Think about it. How happy would it be for your children if you get married?" Doris persuaded.
"You only see the good side. But you don't know that if I agree to this, it will cause a series of trouble. So, I won't agree to this!" Nancy insisted.
"Viola, please inform the media that I'll hold an engagement ceremony with Miss Nancy Ning at the Hayworth Hotel in a month," he told his assistant in a call.
"Charles Fu!" Nancy was anxious. "My mother is still lying here unconscious, and your mother doesn't like me at all. The news you release only will make things worse. We won't get any good result by doing this!"
"Any result should be preceded by a process. And what you need to do is just to accept it," Charles said putting his phone away.
"Mommy, I accept it!"
"Yes, Nancy, you'd better accept it," Doris said with a smile.
"Well, as long as you get engaged, I can call you sister-in-law openly!" said Jay.
Except for Nancy, everyone was looking forward to her engagement to Charles.
But for her, this must be the hell, not heaven!
"No way, Charles! I'm not going to accept it," Nancy said firmly.
"It's too late! Look! The news has already been publicized," Charles said excitedly. In his hand was his mobile phone, which then he passed on to her.
