Chapter 80
MALIYA
It’s been over a week since we got back from the Greenwood Pack but there doesn’t seem to be any solution to the plague yet. The palace has been as silent as s graveyard and it doesn’t look like anything good was about to happen soon.
Even though I am perfectly fine, Alpha Xander made sure that I was isolated in our room and I couldn’t see any maid or anyone else for that
matter.
ว
The only times anyone is permitted to come into the room was when they wanted to give me breakfast, lunch or dinner, and it was starting to feel like I was in a prison and the only difference here was I was being given special treatment.
Alpha Xander is rarely around anymore and when he is it feels like a lot has changed about him. He was always on the edge. Although I could understand him since almost everyone in the pack was now affected by the plague and as the Alpha, he still hadn’t gotten a solution, but it was starting to feel like maybe he was ignoring me.
The first few days when we just came back, when he goes out like that, he would ensure to come back early. Even though he spends most of his time researching what to do next or how he can help his people, he was always here to keep my company, but it feels like he was giving me an attitude lately and maybe even keeping distance.
“Of course, he is keeping his distance to protect you,” My subconscious scolded. “He goes out all the time and mixes with the infected people. Maybe he is scared of infecting you with the plague,” A voice said in my head, but I soon waved it off.
“No, that can’t be the case. He is perfectly fine so there is no way that he would be worried about that,” I thought again, but quite frankly, there is no way I’d have known.
I lay on the bed as I thought of how I tried to get him to speak to me yesterday.
****
“How are things going right now? Is there any progress? Has the physician found a cure to the plague?” I asked as he dressed up in the morning to leave again.
I had to wake up really early to speak to him because he has been going out earlier than usual and he comes back really late that I’m already asleep. Keeping up with him sounds impossible these days, which was why I had to wake up really early.
“Fine,” he said simply, leaving me confused.
I asked about three questions and he only had one reply for all of it? I understand that no one is exactly in a good mood these days, but his mood was starting to get me worried.
He wouldn’t even look me in the eyes when he speaks anymore. It was as if he was fighting with me which was something I don’t understand considering how we didn’t have any argument.
*How are you feeling?” I tried again, as I stood up from the bed to help him hide his scar with makeup.
“Fine,” he said again without breaking his eyes from his clothes that he was fixing. I stood in front of him as I brought out the makeup to use and I didn’t miss how he went stiff.
His muscles tensed and I could tell that something was off. His expression turned stoic as I began to apply powder on his face and he didn’t look the least pleased.
The amusement on his face when I applied his makeup was gone and it was as if he wanted me to get over it so that he could leave.
“Do I make him feel that uncomfortable? I mean, I knew that I meant nothing to him from the onset, but I thought we were comfortable with each other now. What is with the sudden change?” I thought to myself.
*Or maybe you are overreacting,” my subconscious scolded. “People react to situations differently and Alpha Xander is not just anyone, so you can’t expect him to act like the rest.
I finished his makeup as soon as I could and without a word, he left the room immediately. I waited all day long for him to arrive but he didn’t and even if he eventually does, he went to bed immediately.
I woke up as early as possible today as well to help him do his makeup since that is the closest way I could tell he was fine now, but before I could stand up, he got dressed and wore an eye patch, taking me by surprise.
It feels weird seeing him in one especially when he hasn’t worn one in such a long time.
*Alpha Xander, why don’t you allow me to do your makeup?” I asked as I stood up to gather the powder and do his make up, but he dismissed me

immediately.
“That wouldn’t be necessary,” he ordered.
“Alpha Xander, is there anything that I’m going wrong or did I offend you in any way? You have been acting indifferent since we got back and I can’t understand why, especially when we didn’t fight or have an argument,” I pointed out.
I waited for him to reply, but he didn’t, instead, he only picked what he needed as he prepared to leave.
“Alpha Xander…” I called out again and this time he turned to glare at me. My heart skipped a beat for a moment as I wondered what he was about to say but he looked away immediately.
“I don’t want to talk about it,” he said before taking his leave and I sighed.
I want to believe that all of this has to do with the plague that was going on. Maybe he was frustrated, which was understandable, because he still hadn’t found a solution, but I have a feeling that it was more than that.
I went back to sleep feeling exhausted from everything going on until a maid came in to give me my breakfast.
It suddenly occurred to me that Claudia hadn’t come back since the day she told me that she had some cleaning to do and I was slowly losing my mind.
“Where is Claudia?” I asked the maid as she served my food.
“She is not around at the moment. I think she took a

Lord Williams and I went into the pack once again to see if there are any changes between the,
people but there doesn’t seem to be
any.
I don’t know what exactly is going on, but I can feel it in my bones. Something is wrong somewhere.
ALPHA XANDER POV
I have been thinking every night and day to come up with a solution. I have spoken to almost every physician in the Pack and none of them are familiar with the plague.
I have a feeling that this wasn’t a natural one, but at the same time, I don’t want to dwell on the thoughts in my head before it would control my actions.
“What do you think we should do about everything going on now? We can’t keep watching the people in pain, but no one seems to have a solution at the same time,” I sighed out of frustration.
If there was anything I hated most in my life, it is being in a situation I have no control over like what is happening right now. I have no idea of what to do and how to help the people and it was starting to get to me.
“Right now, we just have to keep looking and try what we must to calm the people. We have no control over the situation and they know it too,” Lord Williams pointed and I sighed.
“If I may ask, Alpha, what is with the sudden attitude you are giving Maliya? Did she do anything wrong?” Lord Williams asked and I wondered if I should tell him the truth or not.
I hesitated for a while before answering his question.
“Do you remember how I called in a few seers over a couple of months ago?” I asked him and he nodded.
“Yes, Alpha. It was when you just found out about Malia’s pregnancy,” he said, assuring me that he remembered.
“All of them said something strange about her. They said she was different and all.. they also mentioned how she could cause misfortune to the
Pack and with everything going on with the plague, I think it might have something to do with her,” I confessed.
“How, Alpha?”
